Hi all,
D3 off a 25 day cleanse. so far, so good. sucked the juice out of oranges and grapefruits w/ no adverse reactions. no BM's yet. will do 5 days of "juice", then slowly introduce other fruits before introducing veggies. taking it one day at a time. I did eat 2 pieces of nectarine and peach at the farmer's market yesterday, but that seems to be ok. congrats to everyone ending the MC and beginning a new eating style.

HELP!!!
Okay, I'm 3 weeks off my 21 day cleanse, still eating at least 70% raw if not more, exercising, drinking lemonades for breakfast etc...
Starting last Tuesday night, I began to have this strange sense of smell and taste. I could smell it in the food I was preparing (that night I made Annie's Organic mac and cheese as a side to my 20oz spinach and carrot juice)...it's very, very difficult to describe. It has a sort of sour metallic smell that nearly makes me gag. Not to be too gross, but I can smell it in my urine, my eliminations, and in certain foods. Nothing smells like it used to!! Fresh baked bread smells horrible! Anything cooked has the smell, so it all makes me nearly sick to my stomach!! I even made guacamole yesterday and I noticed that the onion smelled fine before I cut it, then once I cut it and tasted a bit of it, it tasted and smelled bad too!
Cigarette smoke, baked bread, certain soaps, certain perfumes, most cooked foods, and so many other things that I can't think of now....I went to a baby shower on Sunday and had a bite of fresh baked bread, YUCK!!! I can't believe it!! I'm so upset by this and it's been a week now. I don't know what's going on and why I would be smelling and tasting this horrible smell/taste. IT's scary because I fear that it's going to be like this forever!!
Please help! Anyone? I don't know what to do. I know my doctor will say I'm crazy and that there's nothing he can do to help.

Hi Lissa~ Ugh!! that just totally sucks! what came to mind while reading your post was what are you using to prepare your foods? what pots and pans, utensils, etc? maybe you are becoming sensitive to them. the other thought was that maybe you are still detoxing. who knows how many metals you have ingested over the years from pots and pans, etc. maybe due to you detoxing you have become sensitive to them... i've heard of your experience happening, unfortunately, it was a while ago and i never really paid much mind to it.
I snooped around online and came across a post that someone had a metallic smell after running. others posted saying he may be dehydrated or possibly. here is the link - http://www.gatago.com/rec/running/2616385.html
(http://www.gatago.com/rec/running/2616385.html)
here is another link: http://www.therabreath.com/art_taste.asp
i hope that someone can help you with this.

On another note: how soon after a cleanse can you start another? I ended my 10 day cleanse on June 28. could i do another starting Aug 1?

Elisa,
Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate it!
To answer your question about what I'm using to prepare my foods: just a cutting board and it's plastic. I haven't been cooking anything! I either have juices from my juicer which has all plastic parts or the food processor...anyway, I think you're right about the fact that I'm still detoxing. I know, it does seem strange to have it go on for so long, but since I'm still drinking the lemonades and I've shifted completely from the type of diet I had before, it makes sense. I guess I've just got to ride it out. It will pass...it has to. Right?
Besides, it's not just foods that I'm preparing, it's a lot of things. Mostly bread....as someone told me, the flour that we use here in the States is terrible compared to that used in Europe. She's allergic to wheat, period. But when she was in Hungary for 2 weeks, she had a tiny bite of bread and had NO reaction whatsoever. Then throughout the rest of the trip, she let herself eat what she liked, in moderation of course, and had no reaction whatsoever to anything! Maybe I should try importing foods from Europe!
By the way, when you said you've heard of this happening to people before, do you remember if it was after doing a cleanse like this?
Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.
P.S. I don't know the answer to your question...I thought it would be okay to do it a month later, a 10-day cleanse though, not more. Res will know!
Thanks again,
Lissa

Hi Pepper, I was going to pm you but since I already posted this I'll go ahead and do it again.
I can't do the oj and I've dispensed with the soup path twice. So, what I do is break the cleanse with fresh berries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, grapes etc. They are low in sugar and extremely high in antioxidents. I go REAL S L O W.
Next instead of soup, I'll substitute fresh green juice or the juicing recipe I posted in the Lemonhead recipe box in this forum. Again...taking it REAL S L O W. Later in the day if everything sits well I'll have a small amout of melon, watermelon, cantalope or honeydew...maybe an orange or grapefruit and continue with the slow going. Doing it this way I have no issues with eliminating. (I hope I don't get fired)
Repeat the next day and by day 3 I'm eating a small (romaine usually) green salad with just the lettuce, small chopped garlic, olive oil a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of celtic gray sea salt chewed well (the lettuce that is ;)). :) Also experimenting with Green Smoothies which I haven't found one I'm crazy about yet. However the Swiss Chard\Mango Smoothie isn't bad.
Hope that helps.
~Res
I think I'll do what you did Res and not do the OJ. Last few MCs it was too much. I had organic OJ but it tasted too sweet (although good at first!) and I wanted something with herbs and spices. Got tired of sweet.
Last MC I did OJ just in the morning and vegetable soup (homemade) for lunch and dinner. The next day was fresh, raw salads for lunch and dinner.:p
My digestive system worked like a charm! :D
This time I'll elliminate the OJ.

i read somewhere else (on a fasting website) that since animals break their fasts with whole food we should be able to as well.
so i'm considering getting the oranges, watermelon and grapefruit that are allowed for juice when breaking the fast and chewing on those as well as drinking them. i think that'll be better than my original idea of just buying odwalla or naked juice 100% pure orange juice - my bf pointed out that they won't have as many enzymes as fresh squeezed orange juice does.
i'm iffy on the animal logic though because animals don't make lemonade out of maple syrup and cayenne pepper though lol

What you are doing sounds pretty good with the fruit. I read somewhere that animals break their fasts with vegetation, even the carnivores.

Animals fast? is it by choice or due to lack of food? I'm with you peanutterb, I'm iffy on the animal logic too.
Happy day.

Animals don't fast necessarily for the reasons we humans do. There are many articles about animals in nature who fast.
"As noted in the article, "Animal Anorexias," in Science (1980. 207:837-842), when animals fast in nature, fasting is part of their being "engaged in other important activities that compete with feeding." Hibernation in bears and in garter snakes is one example among others of this kind of engagement.

Hi All,
Day 5 post cleanse. Day 4 i had my first 2 post cleanse BM's. it came out easy. Today it was a little harder. I'm guessing it's because my period came. So far no cramps, and i haven't taken anything like I usually do once I see spotting. So i drank more water.
I start every day with either 20 oz of lemonade, or peppermint tea.
Yesterday I ate 2-3 oranges, a peach and nectarine, a mango, 1/2 a cantaloupe and had eggplant parm for dinner. Went to macaroni grill with friends i had not seen in a while. I coulndn't find anything better on the menu. The cheese didn't affect me like i thought it would. I still want to take it slow w/ dairy and cooked food.
today i had 2 peaches, a nectarine, 2 oranges, and a grapefruit. I'm going to try to pick up a watermelon for dinner.
Besides the cooked food, i haven't introduced raw veggies yet.
The fatigue is completely gone now. I feel more like myself.

I decided to do one more day on the cleanse yesterday ( I completed 12 days), so today was my first OJ Day. I started off slowly with several glasses of diluted orange juice. Later I had a grapefuit and some cashews. I was nervous about having nuts on the first day post-cleanse, but I didn't have any problems. It felt good to chew again. I am making my vegetable soup tonight and will have that for the next couple of days.

July 29th, 2006, 11:21 PM
Elisa,
Thanks for checking up on me...
It's subsided some...but it's still around. It's so strange. It's mostly cooked foods, cigarette smoke, perfumes, and a few other things. Almost two weeks like this. I do hope it goes away. I was so upset the other day because I felt like it was never going to go away and that this is what I'd be smelling the rest of my life. For example, tonight I had a glass of chardonnay...which normally I love to enjoy the smell of it before I drink it...however, it had a tinge of that bizarre smell that's been plaguing me for the past 2 weeks. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to deal with this. I guess I just have to somehow. I want to enjoy my life like i did before! It's more than just metallic...it's a mix of sour fruits, metals, and chemicals. Weird. Anyway, that's the scoop. Any other thoughts?

HI EVERYONE!! Especially a grand greeting to my old friend RES!!
I am back from my trip!!! Man China was not the place for me to be!! I am terribly sick with bronchitis!!! It feels so good to be back in the states.. i just came back about 3 days ago and am planning my 2nd MC!!! Must I add a MUST NEEDED DETOX with the incessantly dirty air and greasy food in CHINA. I tried cleansing when i came back but it seems that my iron will is absent now =(!! I feel absolutely grotesque with the 3 weeks that i have been gone and definitely flalen out of my healthy lifestyle. Reading everyone's posts.. seems liek everyone is doing great!!! I definitely need to get back on track and hopefully with the support of this fabulous BB, i can return to my reality again :D. Well Ive gotta run everyone, I'm looking forward to get reaquainted with the BB and talking to everyone soon!!

hi there,
Some questions for veteran mc-ers...
I'm third day post a 17 day MC, my first, and I didn't take it quite as slowly as Burroughs suggested on the food. Instead of all juice the first day I had some broth with sea vegetables and some of the boiled potato and garlic from the soup I made. Then yesterday I had some avocado and tomato and edamame as well as the grapefruit juice (I also drank grapefruit juice the first day.)
Basically I'm not having a good time. I'm completely constipated, I'm having major candida issues and I'm really confused about what I should be doing-- for example, if I want to continue to mildly cleanse and lose weight through drinking the lemonade for breakfast and lunch, can I still start taking the probiotics right away? And am I constipated because I have been drinking the lax tea every night for two and a half weeks and my colon is now lazy? and if that is so, then should I not have drank more of it last night in the hopes of getting rid of this constipation? And why am I all of a sudden having this huge candida flare up?
I really want to feel good!
thanks for any advice, and good luck on your journeys

Hi Chloe -
I would begin taking the probiotics right away, and cut back on the solids. I was constipated for the first several days. Drink lots of water, you can keep drinking the lemonade, but you went too quickly back to solids. I think that is why you are constipated. Don't drink to lax tea anymore. Your body just isn't used to having solids and its going to take a bit to get it going again. Oh, don't eat bananas... they make it worse.
Re Candida, the probiotics should take care of that. It may take a little though. I had candida issues before my cleanse, and the probiotics has kept it at bay.
You might want to consider doing the cleanse again for a few of days and then ease off it slowly.
Good luck,
Elisa
I guess the moral of this story is to come off the cleanse slowly.:o

Thanks for your advice. I've gone back to juices today and started taking the probiotics. I don't feel really mentally prepared to go back on the lemonade, I'm just not in the right mindset anymore...so I'm doing lemon water in the morning, then grapefruit juice watered down, then veggie juice, then broth and then tonight possibly some stewed plums and figs to see if that will get things moving. I agree with not doing any more lax tea or salt water, I think it's time to try to do without...
anyway, thanks again and I'll keep posting what's going on

Lissa: One thing I learned about the cleanse is that it really clears the sinuses. At times I wished I couldn't smell so well. Sounds like it's from detoxing and something going on in your body (duh ;)). Keep us posted.
Elisa: It's so good to see you hanging out here :D and that goes for everyone else as well!
Lots and lots of summer food available still. Mangoes have my heart right about now...and spinach, and garlic and... ;)
Laura! Welcome back from China! :D Holy Crap! Bronchitis...you poor thing. Interesting comments on China. I would LOVE to hear much more about it and when/if you're ready - details. Dirty air huh?
Well I'm glad you're back safe and sound. :) Now it's time to recuperate and heal. *hug*
Chloe: a whole hearted agreement with Elisa. You have the moral downpat now. So now it's time to just take care of yourself (and that means no beating yourself up). :)

Res!!!
Thank you so much for coming back on to check in with us! We missed you!
Just to give you an update on my "smelly" situation...still there.
It's been 3 weeks today since it started and the only theory I have is that anything that has been cooked or heated to some degree (not sure how hot) has that smell/taste. Roasted almonds, tuna in a can, salmon in a can or pouch, fresh baked bread, all meats, all proteins basically, and this will sound gross, but even the proteins in my waste! I know, yuck...but i'm guessing because it's in a 98 degree body and when it comes out, it's smells like everything else that's heated up, whatever by-product comes out when things are "cooked", carbon maybe? I have no idea. It's so weird. Cigarette smoke is the worst....ugh. I'm guessing also because the tobacco and all the other crap that's in them is technically getting cooked, burned. And it's not even a metallic taste/smell...that's just the closest description that I can think of...it's pretty much indescribable.
I've basically gotten a thumbs up from my biofeedback/naturopath in that my health is the best its ever been since I started seeing her over a year ago. She's also attributing it to detoxing...but for 3 WEEKS?? Ugh...sometimes things smell so bad it makes me want to puke. I don't know what to do! My husband is getting worried and I have no idea how to just "ignore it until it passes"...Res, any thoughts, please?

hi master cleansers
so I'm 6 days off of my first 17 day MC and have eaten vegan mostly, broth, juice etc. It's going all right I suppose but I feel like I ended my MC in the middle of a detox cycle--weird tongue and BO-- and I'm having trouble feeling...good... about eating again or the experience in general. That and my weight loss has plateaued. I want to go on to the lemonade for breakfast/lunch and light supper regime and I'm wondering if anyone has tried this, for how long, and with what results, weight loss and detoxing-wise. I'd love to lose ten more pounds (I lost 20 on the MC). Can you reccoment this course of action?
thanks!

Hi Chloe:
People say they're going to do this all the time. I've even said it! But I've never gone for more than 3 days doing it this way. I felt very good with it. I had lemonade at work for breakfast & lunch and then salad w\protein for dinner. Again, I felt fine with it and can't see it being a problem long term.
Hope that helps :)

HI RES!!!
How are you doing??? My trip to China was mostly a disapointment. Like i said in my other post, it was SO DIRTY and the food was SO GREASY.. CAN U BELIEVE I GAINED 10 lbs!! Its making me sooooooooooo depressed. I was gone a month and put on 11 lbs!!
The Food was soo terrible that it gave me the runs almost every night. So when i came back to LA i went kinda crazy with eating comfort foods to help me feel better. Also, cause the weather was so HOT and the AIR pollution was SO BAD i got bronchitis as well as a cold. Took me almost 3 weeks to recover from that!! I guess CHINA was a learning experience. The best part of the trip I guess was the amazing sight seeing.. i went to the great wall of china, forbidden city, temple of heaven, the ming tombs. Most of the time my mom wa doing business there so I had to follow her around to various parts of China.
Res, i must tell you that I FAILED MISERABLY on my second attempt of the MC. I failed 7 times in the last week! I tried to start but ended up giving in to food by the late afternoon. But finally I was able to gut it down and now im beginning day 3. Also, since my first MC i had not gotten my PERIOD. So maybe it was another rason why I was eating like a ravenous pig the last week. It is kind of a relief that i got my period. I DID NOT HAVE MY PERIOD FOR 3 MONTHS!!!
MY tongue is already white on the begginign of day 3. I guess i am THAT TOXIC!! I don't remeber these symptoms as quick compared to my first MC. Well i guess my 11 lb cannot be balimed on anoyone else but ME. I HATE MYSELF!!! I ate like crazy... until i was feeling sick. :( Especicially, when i came back to the states, last week and I was PMSing.. i ate 3 buffets!! I ate more than my BROTHER, whom wants to be a body builder and is 6'1'' 215 lbs. I am only 5'5'' and 132 lbs .. BOO b4 i left to China I was 120. I'm so dissapointed i myself.
Hopefully I can get through this cleanse and NOT CHEAT!!! I hope you are doing well... I miss talking to everyone on the BB. I'm currently trying to talk to other MCers who are currently doing the MC. But i miss my old friends too ;). Hope to hear from you soon. When do u plan on cleansing again?
Love Always,

The Cleanse the 2nd time will be a breeze. If you're on day 3 you know the routine, you're almost past the worst 3 days. Hang in there Girl! :)
The sight seeing sounds fantastic! The food sounds terrible...I thought it was mostly veggies and fish over there - no?
I probably won't cleanse again until mid - September as I'm starting a 2nd job next week and need to get into the flow of things.
I'm glad you're back safe and sound. And don't worry - you'll drop the weight and feel a WHOLE lot better! :) Glad you're back!

actually, Res, I thought my second cleanse would be easier too but it was actually harder. It took me longer to get into it, I was crabby and hungry for about the first week, but then it got better day 7 onward but I didn't lose as much weight though I went twice as long. Go figure.
maybe the 3rd one's the charm!

HI RES!!
WOw a 2nd job!?!?! you are definitely SUPERWOMAN!!! How is the intesnse exercise going too?? It's so good to chat with everyone again.. I missed being on the BB ALOT!!!
RES.. EATING IN CHINA WAS MISERABLEE!! The food is VERY VERY VERY UNSANITARY!!! Most of all the veggies cooked there is cooked int eh same water, oil, grase etc with meat lard all that stuff. I went to many places too Beijing, Ji Nan, Shengyang, and Shanghai. The only place that I was able to eat GOOD food and NOT FORCED TO EAT GRESY CHIENSE FOOD WAS SHANGHAI. THere are a lot more westerners in SHangahi so I was able to eat at up scale foreign cuisines like French and Middle eastern.. THANK GOSH..Seriously, while In china when i went to restaurants with my family and stuff I had to dip the vegetables in tea, then in vinegar, then in tea again to try to wash off teh oil. China doesnt know the concept of VEGANISM or ORGANIC. ITs VERY DIFFICULT TO EA THERE. I mean MC DONALDS was the best tasting there to me! i NEVER EAT MC DoNALDS back at home. It was very depressing! I was forced to indulge on lots of junk food cuz at least I can read the ingredients in there.. also it is the DEMON in me to be a BIG junk foodie!!!
Also.. i failed to mention i did not get my period for 3 months since my first MC. I did my 1st in May and I finally got it yesterday! I was getting realyl worried cause I did not want to go on birthcontrol. My family physician had said it was mostly due to my recent dramatic weightloss. Cuz b4 i gained weight I had lost 41 lbs in basically 2 1/2 months. BOO i gained 11 lbs of grossness in me!!
For some reason cleansing HAS BEEN SO HARD.. Like I said I FAILED 7 times in starting my MC 2. I cheated EVERYDAY!! IT was TERRIBLE.. Well I'm on day 3 and im trying to go as long as I can till my tongue is back to Pink. What is suprising is that i feel my DETOX symptoms are larger and faster than my first MC. MY tongue was white by the 2nd day and I have been feeling SOOOOOO fatigue and sore for the past 3 days. I GUESS CHINA IS THAT TOXIC!!
I am DETERMINED to conquer this cleanse!! I have to.. i feel SOO disgusting and TOXIC. Plus...my birthday is coming up mid-month Aug 14. Imma try a new approach of not eating. Life and enjoyment shoudl be about EATING to LIVE NOT LIVING to EAT. :)
Again, it is so WONDERFUL TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN. You're support is SO COMFORTING TO ME!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I wouldnt have been able to get through all the obstacles without you and the rest of the MCers. I learned it the hard way that people not on the MC are always SO NEGATIVE. I learned not to tell anyone that im doing it a 2nd time! I look forward to talking to you soon!!

peanut: Truly each cleanse is different so it kinda throws ya for a loop at times. My 2nd cleanse was easier to "settle" into because it wasn't uncharted territory anymore. However, one of my latter cleanses nearly did me in "emotionally". I was saying to myself, "Where did THAT come from?" :(
Laura: Yikes! Your description of the grease had me making faces! How horrid! But how great that McDonalds was there (I never eat there, ever see SuperSize Me?)
Don't be hard on yourself regarding the cleanse. It starts in the mind and if your mind isn't ready to cleanse then you won't be ready. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and wait. I'm glad you're sticking with it now. You know the ropes....slow and steady. You'll get there, you'll drop the weight and you'll feel great!
The same thing happens to me now when I cleanse, I can hear my body saying, "Oh, we're doing THAT again" and I kick in right away detoxing. It's good, it feels awful at times but keep looking at the BIGGER picture. ;)
Re: your period, I've heard of that happening with female body builders...because their body fat is so low their period stops for some reason. There's a logical explanation for it I just don't have it in front of me.
I'm really glad you're back. :) There's another great bunch of Cleansers going for it. Keep me posted on how you're doing.

Hi Res!!
Thanks for our support!! Yea.. cleansing has been so hard... its day 4 and im stil feeling really sore and fatigue and cold. IT sok.. im looking for brighter days!!
Yea.. can u believe it... Mc donalds.. i lived off of fries and there pies.. It's funny.. i guess Mc donalds is a bit different every where around the world. In china... they dont have such a large menu like USA. I relaly liek there pies.. instead of the baked apple pies in USA they have taro filled pies.. yummy. Also in china.. they use goat milk .. so the soft serve ice cream was made of goat milk.. actually tasted like real milk compared to the US.
So the goal for this cleanse is to get that black mucoid plaque out. Even though i did a 35 day cleanse last time it never came out! I noticed this time my eliminations are mostly that nasty liquid bile.. not as much substane like the brownish stuf coming out. Hmm interesting.. though i feel ALOT more detox symptoms.
Anyways, have a GREAT day and i'll talk to u soon!!
Love,
Laura

Hi Laura,
Thanks for checking in. Yeah, you're an old Veteran at this now. :) I'm guessing that if you consumed that much grease over that period of time it will take a while to get rid of it. Keep in mind that you're not always going to feel like this. It will get better http://www.kurts-smilies.de/up.gif
I would've done the same thing by eating at McDonalds. So Taro Pies as in Taro root? And yum in regards to the goat milk soft serve! I've learned by experience now that the dairy in most parts of the states is watered down - AND it tastes horrible compared to real dairy. I'm not vegan, never will be and although I'm allergic to dairy, I do consume it on occasion. But I buy KerryGold Irish Butter and cheese and occasionally I'll pick up some English butter and cheese when I make it to my favorite English Pub. Yum...it's just not the same. Oh Shoot! Pretend I didn't just say all that. I try to keep my food talk to zero when I'm with you cleansers.
Moving right along. How long are you going to cleanse this time? I think you mentioned it. Was it 14 days?
Keep going!
Love,

Short little blurb:
Keep in mind that if you're overeating or eating the wrong things (I know you all know this) and your belly is protruding (;)) and you feel terrible, it's because you're taking IN too much food and not EXITING it like you were on the cleanse. So, UP your fiber, move it out and make better food choices so that you don't feel so bad. Things won't change if you don't make changes. ;)

I'm about 3 weeks off my first cleanse (36 days!!). I'm happy to say that I've been 100% raw. I've only gained 4lbs back after losing 25lbs. It has been challenging learning how to eat raw, but with a few books and a raw food restaurant nearby I've been getting by.
I'm always hungry!! I eat a smoothing in the morning; mid morning I have fruits; about 2 salads and 2 advocados; then some food that I've been experimenting with and before I go to sleep I will eat more fruit. It's been very time consuming to deal with my constant hunger. I'm on school break, so when life begins again I'm not sure how I will deal with this constant hunger.
Is there any tricks to controlling hunger? Thanks for any input. Have a great day!!

Frankie: You're asking the Million Dollar question... Eating happens to be heavenly and ranks right up there with - http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/cool14.gif - well eating is heavenly. How to control it is another story. Still working on that aspect of it.
*Are you exercising?
*Are you including good fats in your diet? (I think you said avocados mmm love). I tend to be satisfied with fat added to my salads such as, KerryGold Irish cheese, or a few eggs etc.
Sounds like you're doing great. I hope someone can chime in here with the Million Dollar answer. ;)

Hi everyone,
I am 27 days post cleanse of my very first MC (I completed 23 days and I am very proud of myself for that accomplishment!) The first week post cleanse was great, no problems at all! I ate only fruits, veggies and nuts and I felt wonderful. THEN....the second week we were on holidays for 2 weeks....and I went quickly downhill from there! I was worried that it might happen being on holidays so soon after I finished cleansing. I have been eating VERY VERY badly for the past 3 weeks and I feel terrible! I have gained back 11 lbs of the 27 lbs I had lost and I am feeling bloated, gross and disgusting!! I know this has happened to other people post cleanse and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I might get back on track and start eating a more healthy diet again? I know I probably just have to kick myself in the butt and just DO IT!! But any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :) I can't believe I went so off course post cleanse. :(
I will be doing another MC in September, but I don't want to get completely off track before then.
Be well,
Katie

Hi Peanut...I been using Green for LIfe and 12 steps to going raw by Victoria Boutenka and Hooked on Raw by Rhio.
Hi Res... I eat 2-3 advocados a day and sometimes I feel I eat to many raw nuts, so I guess I need to use the same discipline I used on the master cleanse eh? I don't eat meat, dairy or anything cooked, so I'm still learning the wonderful world of raw.
signing off...totally hungry...hehehe

hey frankie -
i ate raw most of the day today and i found i was hungry alot. or maybe i was greedy. i'm not sure.
but i thought of you at one point.
i had juice, honey dew, 2 larabars (awesome raw food bars), a huge salad and dried papaya and prunes.
(don't ask me why but i was craving prunes and dried papaya)
but i found I always felt like I could have a little more.
Now that I had dinner, some tomato soup and bread I'm definitely full but I also feel bad bc I was so proud of myself so far today.
Anyway, I came across one of those books on my amazon search. I'll look into the other ones.
thnx

I think I will implement actual exercise (playing fetch with my poodle doesn't count) into my mornings and hopefully this will also stave off hunger.
I will report back my findings. love ya guys

let me know how it goes. I'm going to start back exercising at the gym the week and doing yoga.
Still eating just about everything but dinner raw. That's been going well.
I find nuts keep me fuller. Plus I need to mix things up. Just had a few pieces of apple, plum, a few ounces of mango tango juice and a apple pie lara bar and i'm feeling satisfied. Probably for at least another two hours.
I find even tho I'm eating raw, and healthy, I still have a tendancy to keep eating even after I'm full. Sometimes I have to go for a walk after eating, brush my teeth or move all the food far away from me to stop myself.
Anyone else have any tips?
Best wishes to everyone.
Love, peace and lemonade.

peanut: the exercise is a biggie. it helps ward off the hunger, PLUS you're more likely to eat less and make better choices after you've just worked your butt off. :)
To everyone:
I was thinking about it this morning...I'm a grazer...I'd rather have smaller meals more times per day than 3 big meals a day. It's just the way I'm wired. So I make sure I have the "right" food around me so that I don't go off the deep end (been there done that and through with it ;)).
The time AFTER the cleanse is the toughest in my opinion. Everything is charted out for you on the cleanse, "drink this - don't eat or drink that". AFTER the cleanse it's a free for all! Yikes!
Think like this, "I wouldn't put sewer water in my cars gas tank". Why not? Because it won't run right if you do...same with the body. Ok, now I'm real too, meaning I fall off the wagon and eat things I'm not supposed to but the cleanse (this is for newbies and oldies alike) is not supposed to be a cleanse and gorge and then cleanse again license. Know what I mean? ;) Too much wear and tear on the body that way.
I'm so glad to see people posting here. Supporting one another after the cleanse is just as important as during. I love hearing what everyone's up to no matter what it is. :)
Smooches to you all!

Hi Laura: :)
The hair loss ordeal- uh yeah... :o I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the cleanse (there is the lack of protein factor though). I'm leaning more towards, "no". But I'm not an expert. I had been cleansing on and off for almost a year without any hair loss problems. I know when it started and I'm certain of what caused it.
I was sucked into an unsolicited stressful situation that there seemed no end to. Then I was abruptly left to deal with it on my own. The stress was overwhelming and as tough as I think I am it went straight through to my core -- but I got through it. :) It's clear to me that my own hair loss can be attributed to that bad situation. According to the doctor, (you won't like this part any more than I did) it takes 6 months for the hair to start growing back *AFTER* you come to terms with whatever caused the stress in the first place. Not when it began but when you finally let it go and forget about it.
Doctors say hair loss is directly tied in with stress. I happen to agree now. Anything especially stressful happening in your life? Just think about that. If so, find a buddy and talk or cry it out. There's nothing wrong with having a meltdown and then moving on. You many even need to repeat this several times. We have to do everything we can to celebrate life and just kick the rubbish to the curb. ;)
I hope that helps.
Love,
~Res

Well, today is my first day on OJ. My mug is full and I am almost afraid to take a sip. I have gotten so used to the lemonade and I'm afraid the orange juice will re-awaken my tastebuds too quickly and I'll suddenly be pigging out. At the moment, I am thoroughly enjoying the smell... hmmmm.....
Ok... here I go, my first sip....
WOW! Never as OJ tasted so good.... This is amazing..... I'll have to remember to take small sips at first... but man is this good... I hope you are all enjoying this as much as I am... yum....
I just finished my fast on Monday. I felt great the whole time I was on the fast and two days after I finished I started feeling horrible again. All of my symptoms are back. I slept better then I have in years now I'm right back to not sleeping even with a sleepiing pill. Has anyone else had the same experience?

Hello all! I was hoping some of you post (or current) cleansers might join me here to exchange post-cleanse info. I hate to go on about food and recipes and eating habits in front of those that are in the beginning or whatever stages and feeling HUNGRY!
So, I feel grrrrrEAT! (as Tony the Tiger used to say). I have lost about 13 pounds. Those pounds (and those toxins) were really weighing me down. So I want to continue eating healthy and losing weight slowly until I get to a really comfortable place. I know what it feels like to be fit and I want to be there again and stay there!
So, someone wise told me that weight management is a calories in, calories out deal. If you get more calories than you can use, you gain fat! It's not rocket science, but somehow I just didn't get it really until now.
I read on a web site that to determine your BM - (ha) - basic maintenance calorie intake level you can multiply your current weight by 10 (gives a definite advantage to those who weigh a bit more :) ). So if I weigh 157 right now, I should eat about 1570 calories a day to maintain that. If I want to lose, the site says I should eat 250 calories less than that and burn at least 250 calories in exercise a day. At that rate, I would lose 1 pound a week.
That does seem kinda low. I always thought I was dieting if I only ate 1500 calories.
I definitely don't plan on being overly anal on this. I am not a live-to-diet kinda girl. But I thought it might help me be a bit more conscious with my choices. I can just google certain foods to get a feel for the calories I'm ingesting.
For example, I found an orange = 35 calories. So if I drink 4 squeezed oranges, about 8 oz., 9 times a day, I'm at 1,260 calories, which is still below my 1,320 losing weight range.
Does anyone have any input on this! What do you do to stay slim and feeling groovy? I would love any support or information anyone has to offer. I want to eat a lot of raw foods, not much meat or dairy (but a little). Maybe someone has a good, simple recipe to share or some tips. I'd be mighty grateful! Lots o' love! :D
Thought I'd answer your questions and stuff over here.
SO first off, congrats on the weight loss and the fabulousness you're feeling right now. You're awesome! It's been so fun having you on the board.
That wise person was right, it's a simple fact that you need to burn more than you eat. So you don't necessarily have to eat carrot sticks all day, you can treat yourself, but just make sure you're burning that treat off after too.
I counted calories after my first cleanse (check out www.calorie-count.com or fitday.com) and after a few weeks of measuring and keeping track, I basically learned how much a serving size of certain things were and had a general idea of how much of any one thing I could eat. That helped alot because even if I didn't log my calories and carry a measuring cup around with me, I had basic menus and such so I knew I wasn't overeating. I even know how many calories were in 1 peanut M&M. That really helped me keep my eating in control.
I also worked out and tried to burn 300 - 500 cals a day on 2 or 3 different machines to switch things up. And I did weight lifting 3 times a week.
(this website has great routines you can follow --> http://www.thetrainingstationinc.com/beginner-workouts.html)
Now after my second cleanse, I'm eating mostly raw, keeping cooked foods down to about one meal a day. Eating alot of fruits and veggies (at least one meal is a salad). I feel great and never stuffed like I did when I ate cooked foods. One thing is though, I find I eat all day long. But the food goes straight thru me. SInce finishing my MC I've lost a few more pounds, so I don't mind at all.
Um, what else...
that's all I can think of for now.
Oh and keeping a food diary is a tremendous help. If I eat well for 4 or 5 days, I allow myself a treat at the end of the week. If I know I'm going out to eat on any one day, I am a little more strict throughout that day so I can enjoy my dining out experience without worry.
ok that's it for real this time.

Hello! Yay, I'm here! That was weird. I don't know what I did, but I ended up in an empty thread room. So, thanks so much, Peanutterb. I will definitely check out those links ( Who knows what lays in store for me there ?!? lol!).
I feel so funny being on this forum, now. It's like I've died and gone to heaven ! Well, not exactly. But in the other forum, you (Peanutterb) and Res and others were like these angels that would come swooping in to help us struggling new people and now, here I am in the angel room. I know that's sort of a weird analogy.
And I KNOW we're all just people and this is just a web site with more than one forum, but it's just a funny feeling. Anyway, glad to be here. And I look forward to continuing the struggle. Lots of love to all ya'll angels! lol :D

whew. he's gone.
on another note, I ate badly today.
Well not bad but just not as good as I would have liked to.
But I got reminded of how I feel, physically and mentally when I don't eat the right things.
I had a plum, a slice of oatnut bread and PB, 1.5 pancakes, mixed melons, a ridiculous amount of tomato basil soup, 2 mini cornbread muffins, 2 mini biscuits, 1 mini blueberry muffin, 3 or 4 mini chocolate muffins, a small bag of movie thread popcorn and some random chocolate bar they had at the threatre that was like kitkat.
(the soup and muffins were free at the restuarant I work at on weekends. I usally take lemonade with me but was late today. Regretably so because I ate sooo much soup and had so many muffins that I threw up.)
I feel sluggish and out of it. My tummy is making noises and i feel gross in general. eck.
Tomorrow I need to get back on track being more raw and more conscious of what and when i eat. I found today I was just eating because the soup and stuff were there but I wasn't really hungry. The fact that I threw up the muffins shows that I stuffed myself. I really need to do better before I turn into Beyonce and put back on half my MC weight or more.

Oh well, muffins happen. Sorry you feel bad. I know exactly how that is. And will most likely experience it again. But I know you're committed to taking care of yourself, so you'll feel better soon. I know I'm going to make mistakes and fall back into old behaviors the farther I get away from the end date of the cleanse. But now I know there's another way to feel, another way to live and I hope to learn from my mistakes.
You know you can take a lemonade to work to help with that, so that's good. I'll try that, too. What were you thinking while you were doing that? A while back I was meditating a bunch and talking with a teacher. I wanted to quit smoking. And he said just stay present while you're smoking, notice what's happening in your body and mind, and you'll quit. I didn't really do it. But his words are coming back now and he might be right.
Take care!

Oh! And yesterday I cheated a little, too. I did my OJ and boy oh man girl girl girl girl - it was de-liccious!! Then later in the afternoon, I went over to a friend's to go swimming and they wanted to go out to eat and to a movie. I had a little bit of salad and a small bowl of minestrone soup. Then at the movies I ate a small popcorn. Everything tasted so so wonderful. My popcorn lasted the whole movie. I just sucked every morsel one by one. Joy.
But I would have preferred sticking to my OJ. I am starting to see that this going out to eat stuff is dangerous. The portions are huge. There's bread and stuff. Oh Yeah! I sucked on a bit of bread, too. And restaurant food is expensive. I think I'm going to try to eat at home a lot more.
I was worried I would feel sick or cramp up, but so far I'm okay. This morning I had a lemonade and am going to have homemade soup for lunch. Yummy yum yum.

Hey jen,
what was I thinking when I was eating those muffins? "Damn these taste so good. Just one more just one more"
lol. what else could i have been thinking really?
but i'll remember how sick i felt after in the future and do better.
overeating sucks.
everything in moderation. everyting in moderation.
sorry about your popcorn episode but glad you didnt tie up your stomach in knots. if it makes you feel any better i've read about people suggesting breaking your fast with popcorn.
eating at home and cooking your own food is so much better. that way you control what you eat. if you don't buy gooey garlic bread and chocolate cake then you won't eat that. if you have fruits, vegs and good snacks on hand then that's what you're going to have. plus you'll know exactly what goes into your food - no harmful dexycylcokixic acids and random stuff like that.
that's always a plus.

Hi Jenn, Hi peanut!
well here we are :)
man o man has the MC changed the way I eat and want to eat :)
my bf is the biggest challenge now. I want salad, he wants carnage :O
oh well.
found a fab natural foods cafe with a hot tray full of good eats, tofu, tempeh, etc. yayyyyyy :)
Mostly on salads right now for the crunch and taste. Had some of a larabar, lemon, yumm, but see it has 12 grams of fat..... WHAT???
I am drinking lemon drink for breakfast, salad for lunch and yummy homemade soup for dinner. So far so good.
I LOVED being on the MC and will do it again the end of September.
So good to see you all
This is an amazing trip we are all on!
be well

I am right there with you Babe.
I enjoy eating and eating well so much more! I try to have a salad everyday and I eat soup like it's my job. I went out and bought that spray salad dressing and see how that goes. But I do want to learn how to make my own.
Try buying and cooking fake meat stuff for your bf, like morning star has these veggie crumbles that are like ground beef that i make everything from spaghetti sauce to shepard's pie with.
the fat in larabars are from the nuts - that's all omega good fatty acids so it's ok. plus it's raw which makes it so much more fabulous. my favs are banana cookie, cashew cookie, pecan pie and ginger snap. I haven't had the lemon yet, I don't like the cherry pie or the chocolate coconut.
I read on a random website about how adding a larabar to trail mix or a salad or even oatmeal is tasty. I'm def going to try that. My local Kroger has them on sale for $1.25 right now and I am snatching them up. They're like little meals and great to have on the go.

morning peanut!
I have tried to put " soy meat" in his food and he can tell and gets kinda pissy! LOL. He is a true meat n taters guy. Oh well, I am not :) I love tempeh, tofu, etc.
What I am missing is being on the MC. It was so much easier to know what I had to drink and do. Now that I completed it, food is difficult! Who would have thought! I'd much rather go back!
Now, I have no urge to eat junk, etc. which is fantastic.
Thought eating again was going to be ok, it's a chore! Never saw THIS coming!
take care all

Hey Peanut, Babe and all! It's so good to hear you chatting about the things I'm thinking.
Yeah, I guess you're right Peanut. What else would we think, but yum yum?
I'm not craving junk either. That's a miracle! And what's really weird is I'm just not as hungry as I used to be. I can eat so much less and still feel fine. I sure hope this continues!
I made a pot of vegetable soup which I ate for lunch and am going to eat for dinner. I had a 3 egg omellete for breakfast. I was worried that I hadn't had any protein for a long time. It was okay. I felt okay after eating it. But I looked eggs up and found there about 100 calories, if you eat the whole thing. But I remember I used to separate out the whites and make omelettes that way and they were really good, lots of veggies inside! The whites are only 16 calories. I thought I could sometimes add one yolk just to mix things up.
I want to eat mostly fruits and vegetable and grains with the occasional meat or fish or egg. I'd like to eat as much raw as possible. I am just learning about how to do that. But, like you said Babe, I don't want to spend hours and hours in the kitchen making raw gormet dishes. I have the RAW cookbook, but lots of the recipes are really difficult.
Does anyone know of some simple, relatively quick raw food cookbook? I guess I could browse amazon. com, but just thought I'd ask in case there's a really great one that I could get.
Love to you all :)

lol @ your hubby bayareababe. that's hilarious.
oh well i guess
this afternoon i'm eating like a horse. well i did well in the beginning, but this afternoon i was out of control lol. i have the munchies.
i'm going to put myself to bed soon to make this madness stop.
yeah after the cleanse your stomach/ appetite is much smaller. so just make smaller portions. i find eating out of a bowl helps alot too.
i pay alot of attention to my stomach and how things i eat make me feel. and i am learning how to stop when i'm full. i was trained as a child to clean my plate and i'd get in trouble if i didn't so that is kinda still in my mind.
anyway, glad to hear you're all doing well.
your plan sounds good. i find the best thing to eating raw is to buy only raw. that means sticking on the outskirts of the supermarket where they have the produce.
as for recipes, i haven't found any yet but i make dried fruit and raw nut trail mix, fruit and veg salads and randomness like that but those are very basic stuff. let me know if you find anything on amazon. my ex said he was going to teach me a few things so we'll see.

I'm glad you are not fretting about the oreos. I totally broke all the rules re: breaking the fast and am trying not to get too worked up over it.
I started out with lemonade today, but then I had a Cliff bar this afternoon around 2:30, (hi fiber at least) and then a small arugula salad with fresh lemon and EVOO, and a handful of pasta for dinner. The pasta was just garlic, shallot, and diced fresh tomato with some fresh lemon juice. Oh yeah, I diced some fresh mozzarella cheese too. I felt/feel fine. I'm not even sleepy. I get points for at least kepting the fresh lemon in the mix, right?
It was veggie pick up at the CSA today so all the fresh stuff just tempted me too much. I have lovely fresh potatoes, yellow carrots, and baby celery so I may make a nice soup tomorrow. Yummy bok choy too. (did anyone ever post that Kimchi recipe? I did a search and could not find it.) I never bothered with the oj.
I'm drinking a cup of peppermint tea and we'll see how it goes. I wish I could have made it longer than the 10, but honestly, I was hungry a lot of the time and used extra ms to the end but did not help.
I've been reluctant to post that for fear it will deter others, but it's the truth. I wonder it it's the pulp. I love the pulp and even buy the grovestand Tropicana OJ with lots of pulp. But there seems to be some controversy as to whether it starts up digestion and stimulates hunger.
So I feel good, dropped about 10 lbs and a couple inches. I'll keep at eating healthy and exercising and maybe do it again on October.

It sounds like you both are doing great! I did not break the fast so well as you can see. But I feel good and concur with Jennifer that I am happy with much smaller portions. Trying to get out of the habit of eating the kids' leftovers too.

I peanutbutterb,
Just got back from a walk. Yeah, I know, no binging on doughnuts.
I know Burroughs said we can eat the rind, but I don't see where he was specific info regarding the pulp. I imagine the rind has some medicinal qualities that help digestion etc, but the pulp is basically food/fiber.
I did not eat the fiberous section membranes, but my lemonades had lots of pulp, and I wonder if that's why I was hungry so much. Next time I'm going to strain it.
I still feel good. Was worried I'd lose my "light" feeling in the am, my favorite part, but I felt good and did not seem to gain any weight back yet.
I'm going to take it easy on food today, maybe try to just stick to fruits until dinner and have some brown rice and and that bok choy for dinner tonight.
I hope you are feeling better today and that you got some sleep. Have a good day everyone!

Hi folks:
It's been taking me a while to come onboard lately. I did 2 or maybe 3 cleanses-- depending on how you count-- starting back in January. I lost a fair amount of weight-- and have been struggling with keeping it off since.
Right now-- I weigh 143. I was down to 123 after my last cleanse-- and I'm beginning to panic. It feels like half the time I do all the right things-- and the other half-- I turn to food for comfort. It feels like it is some kind of a lifeline that I can't let go of. BTW-- I was on my first cleanse for 52 days-- which taught me that I could go on for a long time without food. My 2nd & 3rd cleanses (interrupted by a 1 and a half day binge) were a combined 33 days-- after which I skipped a period and slightly freaked out.
I've been trying to do the green smoothies, exercise-- and stay mostly raw--altho I don't do it completely. Right now-- I'm at a new high point in the weight-- so here I am to try to get a handle on it.
swimgirl: I ate the lemon rind during the cleanse-- something I haven't confessed before :)
As for being hungry-- (during the cleanse) what they say-- is to have more lemonade! It all feels so long ago to me right now...
peanutterb: I've been trying to not eat after 6 PM-- but I blew that yesterday-- although I didn't eat much. Hard to live by rules (for me). I think it is a good idea-- not to eat after a certain time.
How're you all doing? Res, buddy, I'm missing you! Hoping you're ok.

The Six Healthiest Staple Foods in Indian Cuisine (and Two Bonus Recipes!)
by www.SixWise.com (http://www.sixwise.com/)
Recipes in India are traditionally not written down, but, rather, are passed down verbally from generation to generation. Over the centuries, the cuisine has evolved to include pungent spices and rich flavors, and can be quite different depending on the region (India is nearly the size of Europe, after all).
Many Indian restaurants focus on Northern Indian cuisine, but there is a common thread that weaves all the types of Indian foods together: Ayurveda. This ancient science system is a comprehensive set of principles that integrates health, diet, wellness and balance to support the mind, body and spirit.
Most Indian food is based on Ayurvedic principles, and is made to support the body nutritionally and spiritually. It includes six basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent.
Rather than being based on calories and fat grams, Ayurvedic tradition looks at a food's properties, its assimilation in the body, water levels, salt levels and characteristics of the individual person eating the food.
Much of Indian cuisine revolves around health-promoting herbs, spices and vegetables, and here we've compiled some of the healthiest among them. Be sure to also check out the tasty and nutritious Indian recipes at the end of the article.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/thbINDIAN.gif1. Ginger
Dishes made with ginger, onion and garlic combinations are popular in Northern Indian cuisine. It's used for its warming properties and unique taste and aroma. Cardamom pods, which belong to the ginger family, are also popular.
Health Benefits: Ginger contains gingerol, a compound that's thought to relax blood vessels, stimulate blood flow and relieve pain. It's commonly used as a digestive aid and contains compounds that ease motion sickness and nausea and inhibit vomiting. This makes it a helpful spice for morning sickness or for people suffering from the side effects of chemotherapy.
Ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it may be useful in fighting heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease and arthritis. Plus, it's high in antioxidants that fight all kinds of diseases.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/turmeric.jpg
2. Turmeric
Turmeric, a bright yellow-orange root, is ground into a powder and used in countless Indian dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties. Perhaps the most well-known use is for curry, as turmeric is what gives the dish its bright yellow color.
Health Benefits: Turmeric contains curcumin, the active ingredient that gives the spice its color. It has potent anti-inflammatory properties and has been found to be helpful in fighting inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, cancer and Alzheimer's disease. It's also shown promise in offering cardiovascular and liver protection.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/garam.jpg
3. Garam Masala
Garam masala is actually a mixture of different spices that are added to many Indian dishes. Typically, garam masala includes cumin, coriander, cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon, but may also included nutmeg or bay leaves, depending on whether meat, fish or vegetables are being cooked.
Health Benefits: This combination of spices offers many beneficial properties. Cinnamon is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, and it may help boost brain function and control blood sugar in people with diabetes. Cumin is an excellent source of iron, it aids digestion and it has cancer-fighting properties. Coriander is sometimes referred to as an "anti-diabetic" plant because it helps control blood sugar. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and it helps lower cholesterol.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/mustard.jpg
4. Mustard Seed
Mustard seed may be added to hot ghee (clarified butter used in Indian cooking) to lend a nutty flavor to many dishes. It's also used as a flavoring for vegetables and lentils.
Health Benefits: Mustard seed is a powerful anti-microbial agent (it can kill e. coli bacteria (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/06/05/31/6_types_of_very_common_toxic_bacteria_you_need_to_avoid_and_where_theyre_typically_found.htm), listeria and other food-borne pathogens). Isothiocyanates, a compound in mustard seed, have also been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and protect against cancer.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/7722015[1indian].thb.jpg
5. Red Chilies
Red ground chilies are used to add spice, warmth and intense flavor to many Indian curries and vegetable and meat dishes. They're also used to make Indian hot chutneys and hot pickles, which are added to meals for spice, according to each individual's taste.
Health Benefits: The active ingredient in chili peppers is capsaicin (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/06/03/29/capsaicin_7_powerful_health_benefits_of_the_stuff_that_makes_peppers_hot_004.htm), an anti-inflammatory compound that helps with a variety of health issues including pain, cancers and high cholesterol, triglycerides and platelet aggregation. Chili peppers are also known to help clear congestion, boost immunity, help with weight loss and prevent stomach ulcers by killing bacteria.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/08/23/Yogurt.jpg
6. Yogurt
Yogurt provides a cooling contrast to the warmer, spicier Indian dishes, and is often served as a side dish, salad or Lassi, a popular yogurt-based beverage that comes in flavors like mango, rosewater or salted.
Health Benefits: Traditionally, yogurt is a fermented dairy product made by adding bacteria to milk. The good bacteria in yogurt (provided it is still live, which is not the case in many pasteurized yogurt varieties) have been found to enhance the immune system, improve arthritis, fight stomach ulcers, promote good digestion and even extend life. Yogurt is also a good source of calcium and has been found to promote fat loss while retaining lean muscles.

swimgirl that light feeling in the morning is the best! I know most people say you should eat your heaviest meal in the morning and eat less thru out the day but I just love having some fruit and just cruising until lunch or mid afternoon when I eat something heavier.
Hi sophreesta! good to see you back on the board!
What have you been doing exercise wise to keep your weight off?
And do you think maybe 143 is your body's ideal weight?
I couldn't imagine not eating after 6. I'd probably start nibbling on my fingernails and come back with a bloody stump. The only reason 8 is working right now because I have tea after that and generally go to bed by midnight. On the nights I work at the restaurant late I try to take lemonade so that keeps me full and I don't pig out on biscuits and mashed potatoes. Or have an incident like last Sunday where I stuffed my face with muffins like a 6 year old on halloween night.
Glad to hear from you again!
Res, you're so wicked posting that stuff about Indian food. I've been craving indian food and anything curry for days! Now this is a sign that I need to go get some asap.

I made it! I am now on my first fast-breaking day. I've never been overly fond of orange juice, but today I think it's amazing.
I only lost about 7 lbs. on the cleanse. It's a little disappointing, but I plan to stick to a vegetarian diet for as long as I can and make better food choices, and the scale should keep moving down. I'm also going to start incorporating more raw foods into my diet
I think I'll do this again towards the end of October/early November, maybe for a little longer, to get ready for the holidays. And of course, in January to recover from the holidays!

yummm Res..... i bet the banana and dates together would be a great "dip" for the celery, or even to put in the grooves of the celery!
I made a HUGE pot of organic vegie soup with brown rice and black beans in it when I came off the MC last week.... yummmmm..... healthy food never tasted soo good :)
It is truly amazing how I WANT good food, vs junk.. this definately changed the way I thought about food. Drinking wine is not even appealing to me

Thanks Sopheesta! I've made an effort to only have healthy things in the refrigerator. I've found that the way to avoid eating the bad things is to just not have them in the house. If they're in the house I will eat them. But for some reason I have no problem resisting them in the grocery store. My biggest challenge will be at work, because we host a lot of events with food galore, and the leftovers always wind up in the breakroom, which is across the hall from my office. Right now our event coordinator is putting out a plate of muffins - fortunately they did not look all that appealing.
I got through yesterday pretty well - had a few hunger pangs, but no real discomfort. I did eat half of a grape tomato last night while I was making a dish to take to a gathering tonight. I figured, how bad can it be? I just chewed it really well and it was fine.
We're having birthday cake in the office this afternoon, and I can't exactly say "no" since it's MY birthday cake and I picked out the flavor (Black Forest). So I'll have a very small piece, take a couple of small bites, and play with it a bit. And I'll take a piece home and feed it to my bf.

happy birthday!
i feel you about the supermarket. i find having a list helps. if i say i'm only buying things on my list and i don't put bad food on my list i'm good. also when i get to the register, i put the good healthy things first, then anything that's questionable, i lay out last and then pick every other thing to put back. it helps because i suddenly become more rational when i'm at the register and i see my bill. :)
it's also hard for me to avoid the food at work. we're in a similar situation with meetings and just tonnes of free food. like every friday we have free breakfast so i just come in late. we also have a popcorn machine and that is the death of me. i can smell it from my office and it calls me, loud and clear.
i find that telling myself i can't eat anything until i finish my liter of water helps. cus i can't just down the liter, so that gives me extra time and sometimes i forget about what i wanted to eat by then or i find a more healthy choice since i had more time to think about it. plus i'm getting in more water and that can't be bad.

*After The Cleanse*
This is where we can continue supporting each other when we're done cleansing in all the same ways we did during the cleanse. :)
Love,
~Res
Hello there,
I am going to break the cleanse soon. I know that I read that you can juice veggies or fruits other than oj, how do you feel about that? I hate orange juice because it makes me sick to my stomach.
Also, I am on day 7 and feel like I could go for days more. I just need some sleep and my tongue is pink. I am a really healthy eater and just did a cleanse in July, maybe that's why my tongue is pink. I donno. I also read the stages and really don't see how 10 days is soooo much better than 7. I am a marathon runner and have unbelievable self control. I also have 2 children and want to sleep through the night, not poop! :)
ANyway, I am going to juice for another couple of days and then some homemade veggie soup.
What are your thoughts on the juice?
Thanks so much,
Sunshine13
Res

Hi Sunshine,
How do you feel about Grapefruit juice? Or maybe green juices? I don't break the cleanse the traditional way (and I'm not advocating that anyone else does it my way) because the OJ bothers me too in many ways.
If you decide not to go with Grapefruit or other "fresh fruit juice" ;) Let me know and I'll PM you on how I break the cleanse. :)
Day 7 is great!!! Sounds like you're feeling really well. Day 10 is sweet as well, you may opt to go longer. Listen to your body and keep going (if you can) until it tells you to stop. Way to go! :D
Yeah I hear you about sleeping through the night without making a "mad dash". Burroughs says a minimum of 10 days. I believe it has to do with eliminating toxins and mucous and during a body cycle. You're only 3 days away from 10! You can do it! :) Your "Running" inspires me.
Hope this helps.

hi folks-- I'm feeling goofey.
adawn42 I'm happy for you-- that keeping only healthy things in the fridge generally works for you! I've got incredibly healthy stuff in my fridge-- both at home and at work-- but like you-- my downfall (among many) is the FREE FOOD at work. I haven't really wanted to confess this -- but this Friday (was it only yesterday) ALL I ATE WAS CARROT CAKE, COOKIES and CHEESE-- leftover from a gala retirement celebration the day before. OK, maybe I had some grapes... and I completely passed on the broccoli etc-- that was also up for grabs.
USUALLY-- I try to make green smoothies-- and a salad-- which I LOVe-- but-- that day-- was a total wash. OH WELL. :(
so....good LUCK w that Black Forest cake-- MMMM!!!!!! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/party/party-smiley-023.gifand HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/party/party-smiley-020.gif

So, what's wrong with carrot cake, cookies and cheese all day? ;) ;) (JUST KIDDING PETER!! http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy051.gif)
Soph I LOVE You! http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/love001.gif I love your honesty. *After the cleanse* is reality. It's what we do in-between cleanses and it can be rough. THAT's why we need to be able to be honest here and support one another as best as we can.
I'm preparing to cleanse again in September and what I'm "trying" to do is to eat NOW the way I say I'm going to eat *AFTER*.
Over a year ago, I successfully dropped the weight and kept it off for a year. I had issues to deal with earlier this year that affected me adversely and I turned to food for comfort. I'm up about 10 lbs from what I would consider my normal weight. Although this might not seem like a lot to some of you, this is HUGE to me and has changed my outlook in a negative fashion. Turning to food is something I will struggle with my entire life BUTT there is life after cleansing.
This is pretty much a heads-up for the new people coming off the cleanse. Now DON'T PANIC because it doesn't happen to everyone but it's something to be aware of. Plus if you fall, you can land softly here and we'll be here to help you get back on your feet. OK? OK!! :D

Res: I love you too--
I'm DYING laughing-- I can't even bother w the fancy graphics.
I think eating right (as in "correctly", "well"... etc) BEFORE the cleanse (if you can pull it off) is BRILLIANT-- for god's sake-- tell us how to do it-- maybe you should start a special "Before the Cleanse" Thread!
and right now-- all I WANT IS BLACK FOREST CAKE!!!!!!!!
and I'm totally, totally in a panic! :)
PS: I have no idea where it is now-- but i just wrote about this book i read-- BEFORE my first cleanse-- and I actually TRIED TO PREP like that-- i mean "eat to get ready" for it-- but THAT was a different concept-- what I mean is-- I was GEARING UP to do this hard thing-- ie -- the CLEANSE-- and I was trying to PREPARE myself for it.
LITTLE DID I KNOW-- that the HARD THING-- was LIFE AFTER THE CLEANSE.
anyway. thanks for making me laugh. gotto go get the cake now!
PPS: did u mean to say "BUTT" because believe me-- I get what you're saying.... ;)
where's my car keys-- gotto get CAKE!
PPPS: look I want everyone to know that i've got my clogs on, car keys at the ready, wallet-- and I'm trying to decide:
cake or green smoothie, cake or green smoothie, cake or green smoothie--should I NUKE THIS POST?
and-- I'm NOT EVEN HUNGRY. i had good food today. (carrot tops....beets...mango mmm :) )

You're so funny. ...*Before the Cleanse* HAHAHA :D
At least you're not cleansing and eating Black Forest Cake!! ;)
Well here's the logic: If the "discipline" isn't there at all prior to the cleanse, then the mentality will be "I can't wait until I'm off the cleanse to marry a hot fudge sundae," etc.
Now don't get me wrong. I believe Everyone has the best of intentions, (including myself) but there's a reality that has to be faced as well. One or two cleanses (or even 8 ;)) isn't going to bring "perfection". We spent years and years eating poorly and it will take "TIME" to work the newness into our lives. Time = years and years.
Perhaps there are those who can snap their fingers and be perfect but I'm not one of those...however, it was incredibly empowering to lose and keep the weight off for a year and I haven't gained back the 50+ lbs that I lost originally SO that means I've learned a lot but still have a lot of learning to do. Hence, getting back to eating the way I would eat after the cleanse - prior to the cleanse. If I can discipline myself NOW, then I'll be able to continue with the discipline After. ;) I've done it. You've done it. A bunch of the rest of you have done it. WE CAN DO IT! ;) lol
(I'm not even going to mention the E word :o )

HI Res,
Thanks for the quick reply. Give it to me, baby. I would like to know what you do. I think the fruit juice is to sweet too, too many damn calories. I don't even drink juice regularly unless I juice a grapefruit and then add water to it, but a whole day of that ... don't think it will happen. I was kind of thinking about pears, they help eliminate too. I don't want to back up :) I have read that some people do that. Probably too much of the wrong stuff.
Hey, are you vegan? I think that I might have read that somewhere? I am a huge veggie girl. I do eat fish on occasion, NO chicken or beef. NO beef for like 10 years! Yuck, really don't like that stuff. Hey, this is funny. I didn't want to cook the other night, need I say why, so I did the terrible thing of ordering my girls a pizza. I don't typically eat pizza unless I make it vegan as I don't do cheese too often, but the pizza smelled like vomit to me!!!! It was great.
Share your thoughts with me, please. And, thanks again!
By the way, for long runs ... your in the same head space as this ... to me anyway.
I can definitely do 3 more day. I just want to sleep. ANd quite frankly, I feel fantastic!!! I have since day 4. And I will do this again.
Hey, if you continue to eat healthy does the weight stay off. What is your experience.
TX AGAIN!

Soph:
Since you're "forcing" me to say the e word...EXERCISE! More on that later... ;)
Sunshine! HAHAHA, okay Lady check your Private Mail Shortly....nyuk, nyuk. :)
Nope, I'm not vegan. I was, then wasn't, then sort of stopped eating meat then started again. This is all based on all the stuff I read on the Internet, books and conversations with very brainy people. :) I'm very into "making up my own mind but keeping it open because I don't know it all". ;)
Mmm -- vomit pizza.... my favorite. :p
I'm so glad to hear you say you feel fantastic. You are an inspiration for those struggling right now. :) We have our good days and then we have our detox days. It's just the way it is.
YES! If you continue to eat properly without overeating etc then the weight WILL stay off. I was successful this way for a year. Had a devastating situation come up early this year and used food for comfort. I've been back and forth with a nasty 10 lbs and am still working on getting a handle on things. I'm learning so much about what to do and what NOT to do. No one should berate themselves for falling off the wagon. Part of the reason this thread is here is for encouragement JUST IN CASE. ;) There are other reasons....we're here to be silly, serious, funny, swap stories, recipes, whine, moan and jump for joy. :D
Now, not everyone uses food for comfort. So if you're not prone to it, and you are active and eat healthy you'll be fine and we'll expect you to be here promptly to pick us up off the floor :p when we crash and burn. ;)
Blah, blah, blah....running over to PM you.

Hey Res,
I like your style!!! I am a very healthy eater and exercise regularly 5"4 and about 132 at the moment. I usually stay around there. No real problem with the food issues. Some of my friends say that I am irregular ... weirdo ... veggie head. Anyway, I was just curious about the weight thing making sure that it was not just liquid. I know that the body is eating fatty acids, but had to ask somebody that has finished this.
By the way ... to everyone! Keep up the great work. On day 4 I felt like somebody had plugged me into an electrical socket and I couldn't keep up with myself. My husband too, who was thinking about eating PIZZA the night before. The first 3 days were challenging just for the ceremonial purposes of food, but after that ... energy baby energy. Just a feeling that is unbelievable. YES YOU CAN GET PASSED THE CRAVING! Have a peppermint tea with lemon and ms!!

Enjoy every morsel. I will be eating something in 2 days.
I am glad you're here too! It makes doing this sooo much better.

Aw gee!! :) Sunshine :) wishing you all the best-- in your re-entry to food!
I decided to come back here and post a disclaimer-- just so that people know:
First of all-- despite all my talk of cake (and YES I DO GO TOTALLY out of control...)
I get my food from a farm. I made a committment to myself to do this-- after my first cleanse. It is an organic neighborhood farm-- and I get a weekly installment. The food is UNBELIEVABLE it is so good. Most of the time I juice all the beet tops, radish tops etc into green smoothies, and make salads-- WHICH I LOVE. Today I spent the day-- prepping (and eating) the carrot tops,-- which I love-- w red onion, garlic, bok choy, raw sesame tahini--sesame, tamari sauce and balsamic vinegar. I also had a fantastic meal with beets, and a mix of all kinds of veggies including: OKRA & potatoes...
Just now I had a phenomenal salad with GREEN (not unripe) and YELLOW tomatoes, cold pressed extra virgin organic olive oil (from Greece), organic avocado, balsamic vinegar and (goat) feta cheese-- also from Greece. I was too lazy to dig out basil leaves.
I usually LOVE healthy mostly raw mostly vegetarian food-- I've started eating fish after 20 years of being strictly veg...
Finally-- I do go out of control with sweets-- and right now-- having lost 50+ lbs since-- was it only last December-- I'm up 20 and upset about it.
So that's my story-- and I could use help w the outta control stuff-- but I wouldn't want to convey the wrong message to anybody-- IF YOU CAN STAY AWAY FROM CAKE-- HURRAY!!! and more power to ya! http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
love you all,

Gawd Soph, I just love the heck out of you. http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/love013.gif
Next> I want your food! ;) That whole veggie thing and smoothie with Feta. I'll take two please! (It might be a good idea for me to go eat something. I've been having fun with hunger pangs today and YES, I'm totally serious 8) ).
Sunshine: You fit in really well here. I knew you were one of us. ;) lol
Yup, you can keep the weight off without gaining it all back. Since the bowel is empty, the goal is to basically keep it that way when you're NOT eating. If that's as clear as mud, I'll elaborate.
Someone said John Wayne died with 40-50 lbs of waste in his intestines. That's just not right. It's like being a rotting haggis. We should really only take in as much food "as we need" and those needs differ per person. So if we start packing the weight back on, we're taking in what we don't need!
No one should weigh themselves after eating...I mean, c'mon. :) So really, we should weigh the same in the morning after eliminating even when we're eating. You might gain 2-3 lbs, but I think this is normal for most people because, well, you're eating again and if you're weighing during the day without eliminating you'll weigh with the food still in your system. Right? Right! :)
Geez, it's been a crazy day here for posting. But fun. :D
Love you all!

In the Never Ending Quest for making it successfully through the *After the cleanse* portion of life - there are some very interesting new "juice" recipes in the Lemonhead Recipe box. This could be just the thing to do when completing (or prior to beginning) the cleanse.
Check it out if you're interested.
Also here's a bit of a blurb off the site about Juice fasting (http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_book/juice%20fasting.htm):
Fruit and vegetable juices are the cleansers, energizers, builders, and regenerators of the human system. A combination of either fresh raw fruit or vegetable juices will supply all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals, protein, and fats critical to increased vitality! Adding live juices to one's diet as a daily routine, many have experienced a rejuvenating effect and healing of various illnesses such as cancer, leukemia, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disorders, skin infections, liver disorders, alcoholism, and smoking. Supplying the body with easily absorbed nutrients, while the body is cleansing itself in the fasting state, avoids the dangers of total abstinence associated with water fasting. Be confident this method is both safe and beneficial.

here's what i just realized and i want to share with everyone, seeing that i just realized it after how long :)
just like when you're on the cleanse, you really have to take life after the cleanse one day at a time.
it sounds simple but it's harder to put into practice and follow thru with than you think.
sometimes if you eat something bad you think well i cheated so i'll keep cheating you know.
but i'm trying to get into the mind set of thinking, i've been so good, so i deserve a treat. and that way of thinking positively has really helped the way i deal with food. since i get a treat every now and then, i don't feel badly about doing it and it motivates me to eat well so i can get another treat a little later on. positive reinforcement instead of negative.
also i find that i have to forgive myself. yesterday i ate all kinds of everything. cheese. cake. ice cream. everything. but i said, it's my birthday, it's my dinner, it's a celebration, i'll eat whatever i feel like today, and tomorrow i'll buckle down. instead of saying next week for the entire week i'm going to starve myself or eat the minimum amount of calories, i find it's less daunting and more feasible just to think about Monday and how I'm going to eat on Monday. and then Monday night I'm going to think about Tuesday. I find this makes it less of a chore/ punishment and I feel more in control.
Just wanted to share my little findings with everyone. maybe it'll help someone else too, you never know right. 8)
(wanted an excuse to use that smiley. i may or may not be appropriate but it felt right at the time)
p.s. - really enjoyed the convo you guys had on here res and soph. lots of good fun and honesty.

hi all,
i 'd like to introduce myself here. in the process of completeing my 3rd cleanse. in the process is tricky to describe. here goes: i did 10 days and then ate some fruit. did s few more days, then ate some fruit. finally, day 15 decided to 'break'.
well, that was friday. friday/saturday/sunday were okay -- but NOT what i planned. friday i ate fruit. friday night -- i went out for sushi w/ hubby (had been missing the social out-to-eat SO MUCH...). saturday = raw. sunday = raw (TOO MUCH!) then out to dinner with family then binge...
binge was not as bad as some -- but i ate a ice cream and cookies (ugh!).
today, monday -- i am back on the cleanse again.
perhaps, i was not done...
i felt GREAT and ready to be done -- but i think i have some more psychological work to do.
this is MC#3 for me. i've never ended 'right' yet...
i am a working mom of 3 who eats very healthy *most* of the time.
interesting stats: i lost, let's see, 17 pounds in 15 days (with exercise). i gained back 7.5 in 3 days. yikes!
will let you know how the next few days go... plan to end on friday.

hi kiropa and welcome to *After The Cleanse* (soon that is ;))!
I'm really appreciating your "honesty" as peanutterb mentioned-- and I THINK it is all important to think about these issues here (having to do with indulging, figuring out how to eat, exercise, deal w the psychological issues... and the day to day approach--) on this *After The Cleanse* or *Before The NEXT Cleanse* or the *In Between Cleanses* thread.
As Res was saying:
So, what's wrong with carrot cake, cookies and cheese all day? ;) ;) (JUST KIDDING PETER!! http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy051.gif)
It's what we do in-between cleanses and it can be rough. THAT's why we need to be able to be honest here and support one another as best as we can.
I think we're all working hard on this one-- I've got my share of thoughts about it-- But together we have a BETTER SHOT at figuring it out! That's why I think it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE DO THIS here TOGETHER!!! :)
Looking forward to hearing from all of you! {and this includes: bayareababe, adawn42, Allison, sunshine13, swimgirl, Jennifer Ettelson, LWW, jandee, katie97, Frankie... and everyone ELSE! :)}

Just had to share this! My blood pressure has always been good, but on Saturday I went to the dentist and they took it while I was lying in the chair and the dentist was poking at my gums - not a relaxing moment. It was 101/63. The dentist said, "It must be nice to be young," and I said, "I'll be 40 tomorrow."
I had a bandana on to hold my hair back and she just looked at me and then called out to her office assistant, "Barbie! Get me a scarf!" She couldn't believe I was about to be 40; she said I looked 28! I think just coming off the cleanse had a lot to do with it - my skin looks better than it has in ages. And she said I had the blood pressure of someone in their 20s.
Between the blood pressure and the skin, I am a believer in the MC!
Now, I have to admit that on Friday (day 2 post-cleanse) I did a no-no in the evening. I went to my book club meeting and had some fondue (bread and cheese) and a glass of wine. I had to stop on my way home and find a restroom - my body eliminated that stuff in about 2 hours. I guess it just wasn't ready to deal with food. But since then I've been fine. I've tried to do things in moderation and eat plenty of fruit and drink plenty of water.

Hey Everyone, As you know I did not break the fast by the book either. I've eaten some things that ideally I would not have, like a chocolate doughnut, or chips, ice cream, or a burger and fries from the diner.
But so far I've not binged like I used to at times, so I'm happy about that. And the weight had been steady. I only gained back 1 lb or so and and keeping about 10 lbs off so far.
But I also have not upped the exercise as much as I was hoping, still keeping at 2x per week, and have not done any strength training, not even yoga. so I'm bummed about that.
I also did not clear up my weird chest congestion as much as I would have liked. It did get much better while I was cleansing, but it's bad again.
So I'm debating trying several things:
--start taking cayenne w/o a cleanse. Maybe try hotter cayenne too.
--eliminate all dairy
--maybe do a liver flush and/or a paracite cleanse
--do another more exended cleanse, though I feel it's a liitle too close to my last one. I'll prob wait til late Sept/early Oct.
Anyone have any suggestions? I and very frustrated with this cough and congestion. It's been off and on since last fall. The doctors did a chest xray and all kinds of tests. Nothing they did helped. They wanted to put me on Asthma medicine, but I thought that was crazy as I NEVER had problems before with all that and only even got seasonal hay fever allergies every couple of years during a particularly bad season. And it's not like I moved to an urban area or anything.
The only thing that came back was that my liver functions were a little off, but that's "normal" for me as I am a carrier for Hep B. I was born in Taiwan and apparently it was passed to me via my birth mother. That's what's making me think maybe a liver flush or parasite cleanse might be good.
So that's my post cleanse story so far. I've been reading up on you guys, but have not posted much. Hope you guys are all feeling good!

August 28th, 2006, 11:24 AM
adawn42, that's an awesome story! congrats to you on your BP and i hope you continue feeling and looking great!
soph, i think having been on the cleanse makes us more conscious and accountable for what we eat and how we eat. which is why life *after the cleanse* can be so rough. it's because we want to do better, we feel compelled to do better, so we give ourselves a harder time when we don't. but i just have to remind myself, life is about ups and downs and i have to stop being such a meticulous perfectionist virgo and just live and enjoy life. that's my goal for life in general.
swimgirl it's ok that we mess up, as long as we brush ourselves off and get back up again.
as for your plans, eliminating diary will definitely help with the extra mucus and such you're having. dairy is a well known mucus causer. so that'll be a good step. there are tons of soy/ rice/ almond and other non-dairy substitutes out there for all your fav things.
i haven't done a liver cleanse but am curious enough about it to try it. just need to get a weekend off to just do it, i guess.
also, a longer cleanse might help as well. i'm thinking of doing another in late sept or oct so maybe we can be partners.
cayenne is also good for breaking up mucus and congestion. so is ginger and garlic. i bit into a clove of garlic when i had my sinus infection during my last cleanse and it helped, as painful and awful as it was. I've read that gargling with cayenne in water is helpful as well. then drinking it after.
and i used to always be plagued with allergies and had asthma and wheezing and the like, but at this moment i don't even know where my inhalers are. so hopefully that gives you hope that one day you can overcome your problems as well.

This won't help with chest congestion, but it has done wonders for my allergies/hayfever/sinus issues: a Neti pot.
I got mine online through Amazon.com - it's a pot with a small spout, and you use it to rinse your sinuses with warm salt water. You pour the water in one nostril, and it comes out the other. Since I started using mine I have not had any sinus problems! The warm salt water - like the salt water flush - is just the right level of salinity so that it doesn't hurt or burn when it goes through your sinuses.

August 28th, 2006, 11:53 AM
yeah, i have a neti pot too. i got one from cvs or one of those places after my last cleanse. it is like a salt water flush for your nose!
it's weird feeling but it works.
i just couldn't keep up with doing it everyday.

Kim, Yes! Psychological work! And it's OK! :D
Most of us are in the same boat and the rest are just lieing ;). I don't know of anyone who can "unlearn" years of bad habits in 10 days or even in a year (fully) for that matter but we continue to grow and learn when we're honest with ourselves and KIND to ourselves. :) That's what this forum is all about...being able to be ourselves and say "Help, I'm struggling" or "Hey I did it and here's how you can too". :)
I'll bet Soph responded positively to this one ;)...(still have a lot of posts to read). BY THE WAY it's great to see everyone in here chatting it up! :D

Adawn:
How perfect is that!! hahaha "28!" Woo Hoo http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy057.gif What a testimony for the cleanse.
Last cleanse I had a co-worker follow me out partially to my car saying, "I hope this isn't inappropriate but you look younger now than when I started working here". *chuckle. *sigh* nice... :)
Swimgirl:
"Eliminate all dairy" <shudder> I would hate to eliminate it BUTT don't listen to me because truly dairy creates mucous. :(
Since finding KerryGold Irish Butter and cheese I'm a sucker for it. But wait! If you act now you'll receive...(sorry, in goofy mood and I'm sure it's Soph's fault ;)) I was going to say that I don't experience the horrid mucous thing with KerryGold cheese....hmmmmm it's different from the toxic orange cheese I used to eat so that probably has something to do with it.
ANYWAY: Exercise (AHEM) is SUCH A huge benefit and increasing it cannot hurt..well, it could, but it will do great things for your body.
Maybe do what dermatologists have you do: Eliminate, sugar, dairy, wheat, grains, meat etc and see how you feel. Then add back one food at a time and see how your body reacts to it. Sometimes it's better to doctor yourself, especially if your MD's aren't finding anything.
Hang in there and we're glad you're here! :)

hello kiddos! I posted on other other thread but I thought i'd stop here as well :)
well, here I am on day 1 of my MC2. Yeah. yeah, I finished MC1 on 8/18/06, but feel I want and need to do another 10 days. Not to be graphic, but you would NOT believe what last nights tea and todays SWF flushed out ! And that was after eating basically raw, no wheat, no dairy, no carnage since my MC1! Nothing I ate was black!
Kim, are you starting over since the food binge? You said you were starting back today and ending Friday, so a 5 day MC?
For those concerned about weight gain, the book says most people regain 1/2 the amount of weight they lost. I'm not sure. I gained 2 pounds back and I think that was water weight.
So can I not come back here until I am done on my 10 day again??Giggles...

Yes -- just 5 days. i'll be going away for labor day wknd, so i don't really have a choice.
i'm sort of considering it a continuation (with few day hiatus in there) and really only one 'poor' meal/dessert.
main reason is to get my head in the right place and be sure my one slip doesn't turn into a weeklong binge.
good luck w/ mc2!

Hi Kim, the mind does play an important role in the way we think. Some times it is called "stinkin thinkin" and believe me, I've been there. Just think of it as a 5 day MC, which is great in itself. I think it is great that you have stopped the eating and doing the MC again, that takes determination! smartcookie - you just gotta make a conscious effort to change your habits. be the change you want to see in the world - Ghandi
sunshine - i am real strict/ cautious when breaking the cleanse so i actually didn't have a drink until this pass weekend, a little over two weeks after breaking my cleanse and i got drunk quickly, felt bloated and had gas the next day. lots of fun. but it was my bday weekend so it was ok.
But you just need to listen to your body. make sure you eat before. take a sip and wait and see.
Diva
Congrats to you on making it so far. Remember how nervous you were in the beginning?? You're awesome. I'm so proud of you right now.
Try mixing it up with lemons or limes and adjusting the amount of maple syrup. also try having it warm or cold. or adding half to a cup of peppermint tea. i love the taste of that.
You need to get a hold of the book asap. Read up the breaking the cleanse thread as well. I won't give you the link (I don't support bootlegging), but if you search google, you'll find it.
Day 1 - OJ with water, some lemonade if you like.
Day 2 - OJ and a little broth from your veg soup (recipes are in the "rawfood lifestyle forum in the lemonheads recipe box thread)
Day 3. - OJ, salad for lunch and soup for dinner or vice versa.
I don't really remember bc I do 2 -3 days of pure juice then soup and juice and eventually the salad.
to keep the weight off - exercise, watch what you eat, and change your old eating habits. There is a thread on here called "article about breaking the cleanse and life thereafter" - do a search for it. it has alot of tips and helpful advice of keeping the weight off.

Hi Diva, breaking the fast is different if you were on a raw foods and vegetable diet before the MC or ate meat, dairy and processed foods.
Taken from the book:
For natural vegetarian: First and second day, several 8 ounce glassed of FRESH OJ. drink it slowly. Extra water may be drank. Third day OJ in morning, raw fruit for lunch, fruit or raw vegie salad at night. Now you are ready to eat normally.
For meat, dairy refined, devitalized diet: First day. fresh OJ several 8 ounce glasses, drink slowly. Second day- fresh Oj during the day,as desired. Sometime in the afternoon prepare the soup and have this as your evening meal, using broth mostly. Rye wafers may be eaten sparingly but no bread or crackers. Third day, Oj in morning, noon have soup evening meal, vegies salads fruits, no meat fish, bread tea, coffee or milk. Fourth day eating normal may be resumed.
It is sooooooo important to break correctly. I have heard people in here get very sick, with runs and throwing up :(
I hope this helps. Please get the book, it is so vital giving all the info you need. Peters book is a great resource as well.
be well

Hi Everybody! :)
Sunshine, wine does a body good (believe it or not) especially "red wine".
Research indicates that moderate red wine consumption may help protect against certain cancers and heart disease, and can have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
The compounds found in red wine that are responsible for it's healing powers are antioxidants!! Does that ROCK or What? ;) So "Cheers!" http://www.kurts-smilies.de/trink5.gif

Just finished my soup, which was quite a lot of work to make. I tried not to eat many veggies, but it was hard. I had one rye cracker (couldn't find rye wafers). This afternoon I ate one strawberry-that wasn't the greatest idea since I could feel it moving through my system, it was very weird.
The soup was wonderful, although my boyfriend said it tasted like vegetables with water. He didnt like it too much so I guess I"ll be eating that pot myself:eek:
Had to drink a lot more OJ today to keep myself from being hungry and I had about 10 oz of lemonade around lunchtime. All in all, not too bad.
I'm curious to see what tomorrow brings.

Hi all,
Yes, its actually been 10 days already!!! Really and truly it flew by. I am ready to stop, but it was really effortless and lets me know that I can do anything!!!
Anyway, thanks for the responses!!! Peanutterb ( I think I called you peanutbutterb in another thread--I guess I am ready to eat--ha! ha!) and Res, thanks for the shoutout!!! I'm jealous 'cause I can't get the icons to work for me.
RES, did you do the probiotics as well? I am right now in the stage of pre-breaking the fast--letdown. I feel great, my pants are loose, my stomach is flat (well, at least flatter) and I don't want to gain back what I lost and I want to lose more. I'm excited to eat, and I want to eat well--in fact, I enjoy eating well, but I know that I also use food for comfort so I want to stop that before it starts.
I have a juicer and am ready to use it! I'm going to really work on staying in touch in this thread.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Oh, I forgot I had another question:
Does anyone follow the 'Eat right for your type' books or method? I was following for a while, but I'm really bummed about the fact that avocados and tomatoes are not allowed for my blood type (B+) and I love those two things especially since I'm looking to eat mostly raw. Help! There's nothing like an avocado tomato sandwich!
Is it really etched in stone or what? To tell you the truth right before the cleanse I got a bunch of home-grown tomatoes that were so good that I ate to my heart's content and I basically just started eating healthy instead of following the book.
What say you all?

I swear, Res has the coolest icons.
Cheryl (earlier today I thought I made up that name lol and had to look in old threads to make sure I was right.) anyway, you need to go into your User CP options and change your something something something. i forget exactly what but just mess around there. The thing I miss most about the cleanse is my super flat super model belly too. lol
mmmmm peanut butter...
Sunshine, glad Ernesto decided to take it easy. I was a little concerned. Now John's about to do some damage. I've lived thru one too many hurricanes and I'm genuinely scared of those things.
Smartcookie, you'll get better at making soup as time goes by. my first batch up soup I made back in high school tastes like burnt water. lol.
As for my menu,
I'm getting better at not overeating and making good decisions by just portioning out my food. I realized I just need to do it and stop whining about it and just get over myself.
My general diet includes abnormal amounts of mexican food (veg burritos, amy's enchiladas etc), guacamole, beans, soup, prunes, dried fruits, raw nuts and salad. I'm also eating birthday cake. Can't lie. It's sitting on the kitchen island with my name on it. Literally.
I wanted a juicer for my birthday but never got it. I do want to try green smoothies tho. I love Bolthouse Juices Green Goodness. Odwalla and Naked Juice make a green drink too but the Bolthouse one tastes like peaches.

I'm B+ too and a Pitta dosha according to my Avuyerdic type (i'm sure i misspelled that so badly) and I follow them loosely because there are certain foods I love to death and feel like I can't live without, guac being on of them, and I'm sure won't kill me in the long run, I mean come on, there's a long list of things I already don't eat, don't take away the things I love.
So I follow eating plans that way I am with religions - pick up a bit from here and there and figure out what works best for me.
I think as long as you feel healthy and good and eat well and treat yourself well it really doesn't matter. Eating tomatoes isn't going to kill anybody.

Eat healthy ... it's only another point of view to eat according to your blood type. I have read the book also. There have been mixed reviews. You'll know when something doesn't agree with you.

acidophillus is a probiotic - it's a good bacteria as well.

I do follow the blood type diet and have for 9 years. (I'm a B-nonsecretor.) I saw really good results healthwise and it's been easy for me to continue, so I do. It's easy to use in conjunction with other approaches.
But no, one doesn't have to follow it 100% strictly 100% of the time. I will make exceptions from time to time for various reasons. I generally follow it strictly at home and then don't worry when I'm not at home.
I think if book #1 "Eat Right for your Type" speaks to you (I don't recommend buying it), then buy book #2 "Live Right for your Type" and then find out if you're a secretor or a nonsecretor. Then try the diet as outlined in book #2 and see if you see results.
But it's best not to decide whether or not to try it based on what you like and don't like, especially if your health is not optimal--because what you're eating and like so much could very well [U]not[U] be as healthy for you as for other people. (In my case, B-NS, I'm less than 9% of the population, so things that are "good" for the majority (A and O secretors) may very well not be so good for me.)
Anyway, I personally think it's worth trying. But no point in being a slave to something, or in sticking with something if you don't feel it's giving benefit.

Hi all :) This is my first day after the cleanse. All I have for now is one of those little handheld plastic juicers and I'm having a very hard time trying to juice my oranges so I've been sucking the life out of 'em with my mouth. I don't want to eat the pulp...this is kind of hard to avoid. Until I can go out and buy a juicer which will be tonite, can I drink some organic pomegranate juice?

hey sugarlumps!
i'd say no to the pom juice cus it's not on the list and may not react well with your stomach but sucking the oranges is ok (don't tell anybody i told you that. if they ask tell them a little birdie told you). also try cutting the orange in half then cutting the halves in 3rds and squeezing them that way. it makes it much easier. make sure you're drinking a whole heap of water too.
and have lemonade if you need to

I hear ya about the veggie soup and how difficult it is to hold back. But as you've read and know - it's not good to eat too soon.
Usually I make a LOT of broth with the veggie soup and sip on that throughout the day. It helps to drive the hunger away. :)
Wabiansgirl:
Egads, the time flies, doesn't it? :) Congrats!
Yes indeed I use probiotics in the morning and one at night.
Regarding the Eat right for your blood type: I've read reviews by experts who say the book is bunk, so I gave mine away. I'll find the info and send it to you. For me it's basically a "weeding out the good from the bad" process.

Hi all - It's now 1 week since I completed my first 10-day cleanse. I've been doing pretty well with my eating, and have only gained back 1 pound. I'm eating more veggies and fruit. I feel really good about the improvements I'm making in my lifestyle. I decided to do the cleanse when I was going through a really stressful time, and it helped me get through it and come out feeling so much better in the end!
But I did have this one day... I don't remember who, but someone here confessed to a day where she ate a bunch of Oreos. Yeah, one of those days. There were snacks left over from a meeting and I ate 2 big chocolate cookies and a scone. Then I went home and ate a bunch of roasted cashews and drank a glass of wine. But I really learned something that day! It was the only day that I didn't bring my lunch to work. Also, there were sweet rolls and cookies around in the morning, but they didn't bother me - it wasn't until the afternoon that I weakened.
So it's really important for me to make sure I have a good lunch everyday. It not only helps keep me from snacking, but ensures that I have enough energy when I get home to fix myself a good dinner and not just grab the first snack food I see and eat it all!
This cleanse has been a real learning experience for me, and I've been learning a lot from reading the posts here. Thanks everyone!
Ang.

not my brightest moment.
but i'm glad you learned from your actions. i learned that i can't have oreos in the house. and that i tend to overeat at nights.
but glad you've been eating well and keeping the weight off. sounds like you're doing good so far and i'm proud of you.

That's a coincidence - I'm also heading to Florida soon. I'll be spending a weekend in St. Augustine, where my bf is going to be attending a conference. Of course, a mini-break like this for us usually means a decadent dessert (his weakness) or two, a few beers (my weakness), etc... We are total foodies, and I'm a beer afficionado and home brewer, so I have a real challenge. I like your idea, though. Maybe I'll give it a try too so I don't totally wreck my progress with a weekend of food sin!

UPDATE!!!!!
day 4 post-cleanse, drumroll please...
for the 1st time post-cleanse (this was cleanse #3 for me), i am doing great!!!!!!
i did not break quite slow enough (social reasons) -- but my body did/felt just fine.
i've eaten 90% raw since breaking, only ate too much one time (last night), and am only up 1.5 pounds. i exercised a bit (running & hot yoga) and truly feel like a new, better chapter is beginning!!!!!
i am happy!
agree with everything in moderation & think RAW may be what i was looking for. i've been seeking a way of eating that would feel good for me. RAW feels GREAT!
i am dairy, gluten, caffeine & artificial sweetener sensitive. i also don't eat meat. i expect to be 80% raw/20% cooked.
will keep posting my progress -- it helps me! THANKS all!
Kim
P.S I had a natural BM (sans lax tea) day 3 post-cleanse. this is HUGE b/c one of my reasons for cleansing was to try to fix my digestive system that is plagued by painful gas & frequent constipation.

Hi Kiropa,
I am at about the same place you are. Are you taking probiotics? This is my fifth cleanse and I'm experiencing something that I haven't before. I broke the fast following the book by the letter as I always have done. However, now, I'm extremely bloated and gassy and not necessarily feeling well. Now, granted, I got my period day 2 off the cleanse which normally makes me feel bloated and gassy, but its still continuing now which is day 6 off the cleanse. I'm not sure what to do, but I have a general feeling of malaise and I just want it to go away. Now, granted, it could have nothing to do with the cleanse, but I really want it to go away and thought I'd write in so that someone could give some suggestions. Thanks!

adawn42: how AWESOME! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/057.gif Hope that you keep up up the good work-- post cleanse and also hopin you have fun in the http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/natur/nature-smiley-015.gif sunshine state!
Kiropa:THRILLED to hear how great your're doing -- FANTASTIC! not only do you get the drumroll http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/musik/music-smiley-009.gif, but you get MY total appreciation http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-035.gifWoo Hoo!
WabiansGirl bloated and gassy is definitely no fun-- and you say it happens usually during your period-- which you still have. It is hard to tease out these things-- and if indeed it is due to your period-- it will pass (excuse the pun) with your period. But, if it continues beyond that, one thing to consider, is that bloating and gas can be caused by food allergies. CONGRATULATIONS!!- for having done this thing by the book (- and also congratulations on finishind 5 cleanses--http://www.kurts-smilies.de/dance.gifWOWEE!) then the question is-- (and I say this-- having NOT done as well...and suffered the consequences) how SLOWLY did you introduce different foods? It happens that we are more sensitized post cleanse-- and the less different kinds of foods the better. This is a great opportunity to listen to your body and see what it is telling you with each different food that you 're-introduce' to your body post cleanse! I'd love to find out what you figure out-good luck! Also, being that you're a pro with the cleanses, and you asked kiropa you probably do the "probiotics" is that right? I have to say-- I had the bloating too-- and I wasn't always sure they were helping (but please don't quote me.)
Res, buddy, I've been missing you all day today. I'm gonna go out on yet another limb here and ask folks for advice. http://www.kurts-smilies.de/help.gif I'm sort of afraid to even broach this one-- but here goes: So I started this last cleanse (I'm on day 7) somewhat spontaneously, thanks to some great advice from you, peanutterb, and kiropa, because, as you know, I was going out of control with my food. I subsequently went cold turkey, & gave away a ton of fabulous (farmfresh organic food) and went ahead with the cleanse, and haven't regretted it since (except for really wanting to eat ;) )
So then, it dawned on me-- http://www.kurts-smilies.de/kopfpatsch.gifDUH! I have a wedding to go to-- THIS Saturday! Well, the cleanse is perfect for that-- afterall, who doesn't want to be skinnier at a wedding-- but what do you all think I should do AT THE WEDDING? Somehow I don't wanna show up and say-- "Great meal-- I'm taking it home!" :) Saturday will be day 11-- and speaking of not doing things by the book-- (please don't report me to the officials-- and whatever you do don't do as I DO!) I think what I'm going to do is-- stay on the cleanse ALL day-- and rEALLy go easy-- at the wedding dinner. This means: maybe some fruit-- (oranges preferably-- but I won't say no to pineapple... ) try to "pick at my food" like those-- kids who don't eat.. (that was not exactly my problem growing up)http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif ie so that no one really notices I'm NOT EATING-- and then-- well--after making some polite excuse about having an upset stomach-- ask for a doggie bag. What do you think? Is that a strategy or what?
I should probably also confess that I already did this once-- (!) OK, well there was no wedding-- I just went on a spontaneous cleanse (#2) and then-- at some point (day 11) I broke down and ATE practically everything in sight. (I know you should PLAN WHAT YOU DO_- but I DIDN'T)OK, just so you know that I DON'T ADVISE this sort of lunacy-- Montezuma got his revenge shall we say-- and... two nights of-- staying up all night on the pothttp://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/1271.gif and not because I was doing the SWF-- later, I was back on the cleanse, and (22 cleanse days later) things worked out better in the end... (Lesson learned: slow finish works best.)http://www.kurts-smilies.de/smilie-ei.gif http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
So, whatever I do, I have to keep those two nights in mind! Love you all, and looking forward to what you have to say!

i'm super tired and just came on to read but now i feel like i had to reply to your post Sopheetsa
congrats on making it so far. it seems like only yesterday you started. my how time flies. so about the wedding. is this something you'd recommend someone else to do? say for instance, if i was asking, what would you tell me to do?
why not start breaking on day 8 or 9 and then have the fruit then get back on the cleanse, or stop the cleanse or whatever.
or why not just truck thru it. weddings are fun. bc of the dancing and the kissing and the merriment, not necessarily the food. perhaps you can say you don't feel well, have an upset stomach, recently had food poisoning, are going for "tests" the next day? those are legit reasons. I always say i'm on antibiotics when i'm being pressured to drink alcohol - that always works. plus people won't pry if you give them that "don't you dare pry" look. works everytime.
So those are my suggestions. be good to yourself. you know what happens when you break incorrectly and you, nor your toilet, want to go thru that again.
Sorry to hear how you're feeling Cheryl. :( Burroughs says if you experience difficulty when you break the cleanse you should go back on. that's something else to consider. but it could easily be your period that's making you feel all crazy.

dear peanutterb:
Thanks for committing the ULITMATE sacrifice and coming on board to share your thoughts with me even though you were super tired, congested and in pain!
It is hardest for me to tell my own self what to do (much easier to act like a know-it-all!http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif Kidding aside, even giving advice is hard, http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif even if I don't seem to have any problem doing it--;) and I still don't know what I'm gonna do come wedding-- however--I appreciate the extra ideas for excuses I could use :) as well as the reminder to be good to myself! I think I get into a lot of trouble fast by forgetting to do that! Perhaps if I could "commit" to something it would be easier, but right now, I don't know which of these I'm gonna do:
1. stay strictly on the cleanse no matter what http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif
2. do a "modified BE GOOD" strategy like I was suggesting I might do-- to prevent future PAIN http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif
or
3. throw all care to the wind--& pay through the NOSE (err--toilet) later!http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon4.gif
http://www.kurts-smilies.de/bye3.gif I hope you have an AWESOME trip, lots of fun in the sunshine http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/natur/nature-smiley-015.gif, and things clear up for you!

for what it's worth -- i did something similar with no ill effects.
it wasn't a wedding -- just a visit with my closest friends, in their home, where they offered a meal...
a wedding is actually easier -- so many people, so much going on -- people may not notice if you eat or don't.
at a table of 4 (like i was), my eating (or lack thereof) was NOTICED.
anyway, i drank lemonade ALL day. had a few bites of fruit (to see how it sat) -- felt fine. then had a modest dinner of salad and sashimi (and a few sips of wine).
ALL WAS FINE -- physically and emotionally. i knew i was going to eat and simply accepted it.
the rest of the days that followed were all vegan raw and are/were FINE.
hang in there. as long as your head is in the right place, you'll be okay.
i found breaking the fast with friends around was WAY easier than doing it solo -- it's not like a PIG OUT at my friends' house.
BTW, no one -- not even my hubby -- knew about my most recent MC.
i love my husband and don't keep ANYTHING from him -- but he was unsupportive the last time i cleansed so...
GOOD LUCK!!!!! YOU'LL DO GREAT -- you have crested the wave and are out of the depths of eating despair.
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!

Soph, I know you'll make the right decision for you one way or another.
Let us know how it goes.
I am in the middle of my salt water flush in hopes of flushing out some mucus. i'm in a bit of pain still. did my neti pot but had to use a little afrin to help with the congestion. my face is still a bit swollen, teeth hurt. going to gargle with some salt and water soon then make some lemonade (the cayenne and lemon are great for breaking up mucus if you haven't heard ;) )
i'm going to eat raw all day and maybe until friday.
i am hoping the sinus pressure eases soon because there's nothing worse than being in a stuffy plane and having to deal with all that awful air pressure. I've cried before. lol it's funny now but at the time I was in so much pain all I could do was cry.
Worse part about this is I can no longer say that I haven't had any sinus problems since MC1 anymore. Damn ex and his kids and the kids they go to school with. grrrr.
anyway, best wishes to everyone. have a wonderful sunshiney day.

kiropa your posts make me MELT. and yes, if I could do what you say (and not go the total pig route) i think i'll be ok! (maybe with all you there with me I can!:) )
P-nut I have been so fond of saying how the cleanse got me off my allergy meds, which it basically did: I WAS ON THEM EVERY NIGHT, couldn't breathe without 'em, and, well I had tons of crap come out of me. That being said-- you know, and we all know, that this cleanse thing is an ongoing process... It takes time...
PLUS: some people call what you're going through "a healing crisis" (you know, your body's got to do what it does, to heal...don't mistake the symptoms for the problem it is the solution...)-- ok, enough BS- -hope you feel better soon, and like you've said-- look, it would take a century for me to use "search" to find which of your-- is it going on a thousand posts it was: "you want that stuff OUT OF YOU ANYWAY don't you?"
Mucous is a great invention by your body, to take the junk out OUT! It is a conveyance device filled with "antibodies" which like magnets for JUNK ("toxins"), foreign invaders ("germs") and stuff you don't want in your system draw it out of you and get rid of it. So let it flow let it flow let it flow! http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
The hard part is when the stuff "pools" somewhere and can't flow. The pressure builds up and causes pain. That's why it is important to keep HYDRATED (keeps it from getting too viscous) and keep moving. This may include massage, inverted poses (ala yoga) as well as what you're already doing with neti pot and gargling. Also-- crying-- when you're in dire pain is A GOOD IDEA-- sorry if I sound cruel, but I highly recommend it. Keeps the flow happening-- and is also PERFECT for "emotional detox". Even better if someone who cares is there to give you a hug and hold your hand. Please know that WE'RE HERE!
Take care, have a great trip and hope it doesn't hurt on the plane.
(PS-- As for me making the right decision-- even if I don't, didn't you also say "live and learn"-- in my case, I've had LOTS of lessons...and sometimes... I STILL DON'T LEARN...:) )

Hey BABabe congrats on making it thru another MC! you're awesome.
anyway, i'm doing well. Definitely detoxing. i was never a 100% believer that the white tongue was detoxing but it sure is. I've been eating raw for two days now and my tongue is definitely white/yellow and my sinuses are draining and i have a little pimple. i usually never get pimples except when i'm on a cleanse. i have to eat cooked food soon because my friend i'm visiting down here wants to go out to eat soon and her mother is asking alot of questions so i'll eat later tonight or tomorrow but when i get back to atlanta i'm going to get back to 100% raw because 1. it feels so good and 2. i feel like it's really healing my body.
i think i want to figure out how to eat raw properly. i feel like i'm doing foolishness. all i've been eating is raw almonds and pumpkin seeds, salad, guacamole (of course), papaya, apples, honeydew, carrot sticks, canteloupe, orange and larabars. i'm never hungry or anything i just don't feel like i'm doing it right. any suggestions would be appreciated.
i hate dialup.
besos to everyone!

i think i want to figure out how to eat raw properly.
i was just going to ask ALMOST the same thing. i've been eating 90% raw for the past week and would LOVE to read other people's typical day menus.
today i've had that awesome breakfast that Res recommneded (celery, dates, banana & slivered almonds).
still hungry so i made another concotion -- carrots, prunes & almonds (pretty yummy -- not as good as the celery/date/banana mixture).
i don't have (nor do i intend to buy) all the gadgets. i do have a blender & food processor. i'm a bit lazy (since i already prepare meals for family).
so whad do you have to offer that's delicious, e-a-s-y & raw for this new-to-raw-and-really-liking-it woman?
THANKS!

I don't know much about raw food as a regular diet; never tried it.
However, one of my favorite salads is grated raw beets and carrots. (I usually put either straight lemon juice on it, or an oil/vinegar dressing--again, I don't know how that factors into a raw food diet.)
The other night I also added grated apple (thus carrot/beet/apple), and it was delicious!

Hey everyone,
Sorry you are felign so lousy, Peanut. Have you tried testing your ph? They say that being to acid can be a reason for sickeness and general lousiness too, and you can figure out what raw things are best for you. My healthfood store was out of the ph strips, so I asked if it was a worthwhile thing to do or just hype, and the owner said she felt like there was value to that protocol so I'm going to try it.
Anyway, feel better. Drain, drain, drain!
Congrats to Babe and everyone else too for their cleanses!

Good Afternoon everyone. I am on day 8 of 10, so I have a question for you strong minded individual that have completed the cleanser. Can you eat vegetable soup or eat veggies the first day after. I know the book says you should only drink orange juice for the first day and half or so, but I was curious if any of you all ate soup or vegetable the first day after.
Also, do you drink the laxative tea the first morning after.
Thank You,
Billy
p.s. Besides feeling great physically I am amazed at how good mentally I feel. Once I complete this I know there is nothing that can't I can't do. I am sure that you all feel the same.

Stick to the book. Your body isn't ready for solids yet. Ask the people who break the cleanse the wrong way. :(
No you can discontinue the tea, swf and lemonade. :D

not if u intend to break on Day 11-- you're home free! ie, no more Lax Tea!

Re: Lax tea and SWF
I did. If you figure on day 10 you are still drinking the lemonade with the pepper, than you probably are detoxing. Why not eliminate what was detoxed... It's really is up to you. In the morning of day 1 post cleanse, I did my last SWF (had the lax tea the night before). No more SWF's or tea after. I made a green smoothie on day 3, had a bm on day 4.

I didn't do the tea last night, nor the SWF today (but only 'cause I lost my patience and not because I don't think you might have a point lovejones596;))-- and I'm "doing" ruby red grapefruit and valencia oranges. i also had a sip of leftover lemonade. Hoping I "break the cleanse" right this time.

just came home and made vegetable "soup" in the vitamix. worst thing i ever tasted http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/grinser/grinning-smiley-010.gif. downed some, threw it out, tried again. my boy friend said: "better luck next time!" I could taste the 'live" enzymes. the thing was basically raw and barely luke warm. some of the ingredients- fresh from the (organic) farm:
tomatoes, "finger" potatoes, bok choy, a pepper, some kind of turnip, some spice greens, and garlic.
(this is day 2 post cleanse btw...-first day I just had oranges and ruby red grapefruit, and lemonade. today more of the same) the watermelon I had after the "soup"- was PERFECT. mmm. :)

Day 3 post cleanse-
I feel great. I am handling solids really well. I think my relationship with food has changed drastically. Also, fresh squeezed orange juice is the best tasting thing EVER.
I think I will do another MC in the beginning of the year for 30 days.
AND I am actually looking forward to it.

I'm sorry if this was posted somewhere else, but I am too tired to look through all the posts to find it. I was wondering approximately how many glasses of orange juice is considered "several" as outlined in Dr. Burrough's book. I don't want to under or over do it with the oj today. It is noon and I have had two watered down glasses today and I am feeling rather weak. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hi Fairone:
I think Burroughs leaves us to be the judge of that. Sorry if that's very un-specific. But I think if you drink a glass slowly and then need another one an hour or two later you should go ahead and drink.
Listen to your body and adjust it to what "feels" right. We sure don't want you to faint. :)
Hope this helps a little.

Hello all of my future friends on this web site....please help.........:D
I have done this fast twice..the first time was for 12 days...and it was wonderful, lost lots of weight, and felt great for a long time.
The second fast was for 5 days only. It was 8 weeks after the first one. I was afraid that I didn't wait long enough to begin another fast so I ended this one early.
Since that time in June...I have been having weird medical problems..I was wondering if anyone has any sugesstions......here..
Every time I go into either a hot bath, or my own personal Hot Tub...it break out in terrible rashes all over my body...it seems as if the toxins are trying to release out...and are stuck....and now I am experiencing major fatigue..........any ideas? It seems that I have new allergies...and I am a little confused..........
I am considering doing another fast...since its been 4 months since the last one...the 5 dayer...and getting out all of the toxins that seem to be suck inside my body.???
any ideas..please help........is it safe to do another fast so soon? help.........

dear tahoelady:
Your intuition seems to be pointing in the direction that you may still have "toxins" left in your body after your last MC! I know that I, and others, have felt that way-- even after doing 10 or even more days on the MC. There is no "magic" answer as to how many days one should go on the MC, although some people like to use the "tongue" as an indicator of detox...and even though Burroughs suggests that one should do it for a minimum of ten days, it doesn't mean you CAN'T do it for less. But probably his long term experience in guiding so many people who did the cleanse has something to do with understanding that it takes that kind of period of time to eliminate "one round" of toxins. I've heard it said that that's about the time to remove a "layer" but who knows-- if there is a way to "measure" such a thing and really know. Some people who have done longer cleanses do experience that their "BMs" have a cyclical behavior, and even though they've gone for a longer while, there are times that they have more eliminations during the longer term cleanse, which seems consistent with such an explanation. I felt this was true during my first, and longer term cleanse-- which was 52 days--but even after that length of time, I did not get the pink tongue! I tell you this so that you know that it isn't like even 10 days is necessarily ENOUGH time to get out all the toxins!
Myself and others have posted that after finishing their cleanse (for whatever number of days) their bodies were still in the process of trying to "detox". I know that just now when I ended my last MC, this was true for me. So it sounds like you might be right about what you're thinking, both with the rashes in the hot tub, and the fatigue. So maybe you're due for another MC!
Many people think that doing the cleanse even 4 times a year is very sensible--including our admin Peterhttp://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif so if you think you're ready, it is probably a good idea!
fancy1:
Nice to see you here too! I'm glad you saved a lot on your computer. I too have felt the loss of what was here and isn't anymore, but-- I guess learning how to let go of things- is part of what I'm trying to do-- and so I'm glad you're back and DIVING RIGHT IN!
As for me, this is still an ongoing process-- and I still haven't learned my lessons. Although I was trying to "end this cleanse" well-- and give my self the best possible shot afterwards-- I have to "fess" up that I haven't been eating the best-- post cleanse. I did rather well the first day-- probably overate on the second (Friday) and then had too much of a good thing on Saturday as well (invited to a fancy dinner by my sister-in-law). I'm currently at a conference in Montreal (which I drove to after that dinner) and the combination of long drive in the middle of the night--- and my still inability to say "NO" when lots of free and delicious food is around-- meant I OVERDID IT again yesterday (Sunday) and had to pay the piper.
When will I learn? It was too hard for me to pass on the great dessert at lunch yesterday. Our conference venue is at a "training institute" for "tourism" here in montreal. At least when they served up what looked like a mound of meat-- piled on top with interesting vegetables i had the guts to tell them I was vegetarian. They then served up the same vegetables piled on polenta-- which I couldn't bring myself NOT to eat. MMMMM. I fared even worse with the dessert-- which I couldn't bring myself to tell them not to bring me--and so I ate it. I also completly BLEW it for the afternoon "coffee" break--(although I was "good" for the morning one) and had MORE DESSERTS-- OH DEAR!
For dinner I had a salad and "fish soup" and again I couldn't pass on the "creme brulee". Sorry folks, I hear those words-- and something happens to me and all my best intentions-------------------- crumble.
So I'm VERY impressed with you fairone and how awesomely restrained you're being post cleanse. I think you'll find that easing your way slowly back into the land of food-- is really doing yourself the best favor! The slight headache by the way-- might be because you're not getting enough orange juice--it could either be continued detox-- or just a sign that your body needs more energy-- our brain is an "energy hog"!
Best of luck to all on your healing journey-- and a shout out to my pal Res http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-066.gif good ta see you over here! :)

you're so right-- but what can i tell u-- i succombed to massive and delectable quantities of food. i can't keep track of all i've eaten in the last 2 days. i managed to skip the cake for dessert at the banquet tonight-- and just eat the sherbert in a chocolate cup-- but that's because i was so stuffed with dinner and the coconut macaroons, chocolate brownie cookies etc i ate during the afternoon coffee break that i was in serious danger of popping my blouse.
admittedly i haven't fit in this outfit for 13 years-- and so i need a PLAN or else-- PERISH the thougth of wearing such a tiny black mini skirt, tuxedo jacket, pearly sequined shirt with rhinestone ball buttons and low bodice-- ever again.

The amazing citrus smells (as opposed to cayenne, which don't get me wrong I love) and oils that jumped into the air woo'd me. "Ahhh. cherie" I have to say this smells much better than the "feet" smell that's been plaguing me for weeks.

on another topic. i'm feeling "skinny" these days-- which is GREAAATTT!
and you probably have all heard about the "health" as well as "sex appeal" benefits of having a "good" waist to hip ratio:
Waist-to-Hip Ratio or Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) (http://www.baptisthealth.net/bhs/main/common/HipTool/hipcalc.html) is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. It measures the proportion by which fat is distributed around the torso. The concept and significance of WHR was first theorized by evolutionary psychologist Dr. Devendra Singh at the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. ["Adaptive significance of female physical attractiveness: Role of waist-to-hip ratio." Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 65]
To calculate the ratio, use a non-stretchable tape. Make sure it is level around the body, parallel to the floor, and tighten it without depressing the skin. Measure the hips around the widest part of the hip bones. Measure the waist at its narrowest point width-wise, usually just above the belly button (see illustration). Then divide the waist measurement by the hip measurement.
A WHR of 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men have been shown to correlate strongly with general health and fertility. Women within the 0.7 range have optimal levels of estrogen and are less susceptible to major diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and ovarian cancers. Men with WHRs around 0.9, similarly, have been shown to be more healthy and fertile with less prostate and testicular cancer.
WHR is considered to be factor in a person's attractiveness. Women with a 0.7 WHR (waist circumference being 70% of the hip circumference) are often rated as more attractive by men regardless of culture, race, religion or ethnicity. Such diverse beauty icons as Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, Sophia Loren, Kate Moss, Salma Hayek and even the Venus de Milo all have ratios around 0.7, even though they have significantly different weights. Congruent with an evolutionary perspective, evidence suggests that humans use subtle biological cues, such as WHR, to indicate mate potential and fertility.

I am at the end of my second day following my first 10-day cleanse. I could have gone longer but I needed to be able to at least eat something when I go out to dinner with my new in-laws tomorrow night.
Although I had minimal detox symptoms during the cleanse and breaking the fast by the book isgoing well, this evening I developed a dry cough and my lungs kind of hurt. I read that this is a detox symptom when you are fasting, but is this normal post cleanse?

Well, this is my first "real food" day. I feel a little overfull from breakfast and will make a concerted effort to keep portion sizes smaller than I think I "want".
I'm happy to report that as of yesterday my eliminations are back to "normal" (twice a day). And even though just before my transition I had strong craving thoughts for foods I really never eat and don't want to eat, I'm happy to say they are gone completely and my food interests are right in line with how I want them to be.
I began MC2 at 168.5 pounds. My lowest weight (yesterday) was 155. Today 156. (Not bad considering I once weighed 250!) I'm hoping to stabilize in the 150's for a little while. My eventual goal is 140.
So feeling good and doing well!

Well, now I can report in about my absolutely luscious post-MC reward, my arnica wrap!
I've had plenty of massages, but I've never paid the price to do so in a spa. So while they were certainly good, they were usually done in bright rooms, on plain tables, etc. No ambience!
So this treat started right off the bat, when I was ushered into a dimly lit, stone-floored area that felt like a warm comfortable cave. They had me change into a robe and then sit in comfy chairs near a gas fireplace, again with lights low, and soft music playing.
Soon I went in for my massage, which was on a heated table, again lights low and soft relaxing music. She used an arnica salve and did an excellent full-body massage for an hour. It was wonderful.
Then I got up and she put the arnica-soaked super-hot linens on the table. These were covered with towels, and when I lay back on them I crossed my arms over my chest and she wrapped me up in a tight cocoon. While that soaked into me and heated me up into quite a sweat for another 30 minutes, she gave me a head and neck massage.
I was SOOOOO relaxed by the end, and even now (some hours later) my skin is soft and smooth and smells wonderful. It was a truly special treat, and I'm so glad I went those extra six days so I could indulge in it!
I think my plan now is to do two 10-day cleanses a year, when DH is gone on business trips. My next one will be around March or April, and I think I'll have to start saving now! The only thing I'll do differently is to have my massage on the last cleanse day. This morning I was kind of full when I got there and a bit uncomfortable, and I think I'd prefer to do the massage before I start eating. Even so, by the end I felt fine, so when the time comes I'll reassess.
Caveat: The people who recommended it to me did say that it can be quite intense, and they didn't suggest it to anyone who wasn't already familiar with deep massage and releasing. I think if one has not detoxed first, it may actually cause some and be less pleasant than it was for me.
Anyway, if a spa near you offers something like that, I can highly recommend it!

Ooh thanks, Kathy!
I'm so glad you shared that with us! That idea is going into my treat basket and I'm going to start checking the spas around here for an Arnica wrap! Actually the head and neck massage for 30 minutes sounds heavenly all by itself!:p

Peace and blessings all! I just finished my first clease on Sunday. I went 11 days. Next time I want to go longer. I lost a whopping 15 pounds! :) Gosh, I can't believe that. :D Today I was a very good student and drank only orange juice and water. Oh and I had tea too. All in all I feel great. Now I am trying to incoporate more green foods into my diet. Ideally I would like to go RAW. But I know that is a ways from now. However, I did just purchase some very good treats (fruits and vegetables) from Lazy Acres that should hold me for about three days. Well anyway I just wanted to check in and say hello to those of you who are done with the cleanse. Until the next time....

Peace4U2 (cute name by the way!) congratulations for finishing!! And hooray for the 15 lbs:) I just bought a whole load of veg as well - my mum would be amazed at the contents of my fridge!
Kathy that wrap sounds DIVINE! I was going to have one when I finished my cleanse but I've just started my period so didn't really feel like it. I think if I'm generally good and stick to a good post-cleanse plan then I'll treat myself in a week's time or something :)
mystik hehe there's nothing wrong with treating yourself now and again - it's all about the moderation! What day are you post cleanse? I have a big birthday party this weekend and wont say no to a few canapes;) (though i'm going to stay off the alcohol for this week - shock horror!)
Anyway, guys and girls, I thought I would join you, I broke my fast today on Day 9 (so I cleansed for 8 and a half days) because of some issues but I am now feeling great about it all!
So today is OJ day - I am also still having my 6 glasses of lemonade and mint tea with MS - I hope this is ok, I figured it's just fluids so I am going crazy with the fluids in celebration :D
One thing... does the OJ give you a headache? BOO to that!
Anyway, I'm going to watch a DVD now, maybe have a nap, maybe watch a DVD and CHILL out (and will hopefully come back here a little less hyper!)

Another promising obesity drug bites the dust
Therapy failure highlights difficulties of tricking the body into shedding pounds.
Heidi Ledford
© Efforts to hold back the world's expanding waistline have been dealt another blow this week, as scientists announce disappointing results from a clinical trial of their latest obesity drug.
The test shows that the drug, developed by Merck & Co, Inc. in New Jersey and named MK-0557, works — but only a little bit. Overweight or obese patients receiving MK-0557 lost only 1.6 kilograms more than those who were given a placebo over the course of a year.
The results, reported in this month's issue of Cell Metabolism, are statistically significant1. But they are also clinically irrelevant.

PS: Like many of you, I've kept my weight down, (in the low 130's from an initial weight of 175-- ) so folks, we all know it CAN BE DONE and we KNOW HOW! I'd like to get it down below 130, even 120-- but hey we here know what WORKS better than any of these drugs! :)

Not real excited about the side affects of using any type of drugs...some are necessary but "self-control" is the name of the game for weight control. Too bad someone couldn't patent and encapsulate "self control". You'd make millions. :)

Hi All,
I am 1st day post 10day cleanse. O.J. has never tasted beter.
Has anyone had plugged ears before. I have no congestion, just plugged ears.
Its kind of driving me nuts.

October 4th, 2006, 12:35 PM
Yes! This past cleanse, day 1, I did have plugged ears! Well, right ear.
It happened after my first glass of OJ. Every time I breathed in, I could hear and feel my ear being plugged. That had not happened to me with MC1 or at any time previously.
I sort of sat with that for about an hour or so, and then had another swig of OJ (diluted) before leaving the house. And lo and behold, my ear cleared up immediately!
I had the phenomenon happen two or three times in the next couple of days, though not constant, and eventually it went away.
So try some more OJ. Hope it's the same for you!

greetings...
my first post, on my first cleanse and a virgin to navigating these web threads (play nice please)
thanks to all who have posted--it's been really interesting reading and helpful as well. i am on day three and have been doing quite well i think...feel well anyway (with the normal ups and downs of swf and can't say i'm crazy about cayanne -yeow! that stuff is hot!)
i was wondering if anyone would be comfortable sharing their weight losses and what, if any, there gains were post cleanse...seems there's quite a big difference with many. i find it encouraging to hear of people's success and it inspires me to keep up the good work :)
appreciate you all being so open thus far and look forward to getting past the newbie stage ...:p kc

Hi Luckygirl,
My first cleanse I lost 7.5 pounds in 10 days. I kept it off for a few weeks, but then went on vacation and gained it all back. (However, my measurements shrank during the cleanse and I stayed at the lower measurements even after gaining the pounds back.)
On cleanse #2 I lost 13.5 pounds in 20 days. I've gained back 2.5 of that and (with no vacation in sight) don't expect to gain any more. In fact, I expect to start losing again. We shall see.
But everyone is different. If you want to lose weight, take your measurements as well as your scale reading, because they may be more accurate in the long run. And your measurements affect how you look and how others see you--no one ever needs to know that number on the scale! :)

Hi KC:
Welcome Aboard. :)
The stories are many and varied: here's mine: I started my first cleanse in March 2005. I was 165 lbs, had no energy and was depressed for months (very unlike me). Doctors didn't help - at all. So, I inadvertently found this BB.
I had already been on the cleanse for about 2 weeks before I found this board and then was diagnosed by a homeopathic dr, with hypothyroidism. NO WONDER! They prescribed armor thyroid but I waited until after the cleanse to start taking the medicine. My first cleanse was done in 23 days.
My days pre cleanse and pre medication were this: get up and go to work. Come home and feed the dog. Eat a cold hot dog. Lie down and rest until it was time to go to bed. I was exhausted and very good at beating myself up so I just called myself "in a slump" and tried to force my way out. Uh...to no avail. I felt better after the cleanse but still had no energy. Got on the medication, cleansed again a month or so later and felt fantastic. 6 months later I'd lost 60 lbs. I kept most of the weight off and stayed between 113 and 117. So, it can be done if you watch what you eat and eat moderately.
BUT, I eat for emotional reasons. So in the beginning of 2006, I got side swiped by a situation and had no idea what hit me for months...I turned to food and put on about 12 lbs, which felt like 20. So, got back on the cleanse for 21 days and now I'm back where I should be.
If nothing else, you learn more and more each time you cleanse. The cleanse is just the beginning. Although it's a fantastic jump start with fantastic comrades - it's what you do "in-between" the cleanses that really matters. The cleanse is such a wonderful break from figuring out what to eat. It's like a vacation for body, mind and soul.
SO, have a PLAN before coming off the cleanse. IF you go back to the same way of eating you're going to put the weight back on. SO :) again, you HAVE to have a plan - well, I do. So figure out how you're going to eat and stick to it. I'm never going to do this perfectly - and I've come to terms with it. But I'm not going to purposefully harm myself again like I used to do with food. I KNOW better now so there are limitations that I've set for myself.
Am I going to date a bag of cheetos ever again? Probably. I love Cheetos - but I do feel like crap after eating them so maybe I'll date a "smaller" bag of cheetos instead of the usual bag that takes 2 grown men to carry it into the house. Moderation.
Will I ever fall off the wagon again? Of course - I turn to food for comfort and I'm sure I'm going to need comfort again. BUT I'm planning on having "other" comfort food around and available so that I won't only turn to that bag of cheetos. I dont' keep cheetos in the house, however, I do keep seeds, nuts, oats & honey around. I can put all that together (or agave nectar) and make little cakes and a pot of tea. THAT's available...cheetos mean a trip to the store and if I'm in "One of those moods" I don't usually want to go anywhere. So there are times you have to "trick" yourself to help yourself.
If someone hits the dirt big and puts all the weight back on, then that means they'll do better the "next" time. No one gets beat up here. We do that well enough to ourselves. We learn, we grow and we support each other. We want this to be a "safe" place. :)
Blah, blah, blah....next! ;)
Love,
~Res

Hey y'all :)
kc unfortunately I don't have a weighing scales but in terms of measurements I lost 2 inches from my waist, 2 inches from my hips, 0.5 inch from my boobs, and about 1 inch in total from my thighs and calves. I started my cleanse at 126 lbs and reckon I got down to at least 119 lbs.
I am now 2 days post cleanse and have obviously started retaining water ESPECIALLY as last night my leg started cramping on a night out (damn the crazy dancing plus sweating combination!) so decided on a whim to drink some water with some salt in it (worked like a dream by the way!)
I am also on my period which could have an effect. So am going to wait until my period subsides before I take measurements again.
Today was my first day of solids (soup and rye wafers) and am feeling a bit bloated. But still feeling like a skinny minny (and lots of comments keep flying in) so I don't mind :)
Hope everyone is doing a-ok!!

This is awesome to me. Why wait until we have the threat of cancer? There's so much that can be done NOW to prevent it.
The 8 Most Unusual Sources of Potential Cancer Cures
by www.SixWise.com (http://www.sixwise.com/)
In 2005, cancer surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of death among Americans under the age of 85. Nearly 1.4 million Americans will be diagnosed with this disease in 2006, according to the American Cancer Society, and nearly 565,000 will die.
As cancer diagnoses have increased, so have the number of Americans seeking alternatives to typical cancer treatments. In fact, one study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found that 88 percent of those with cancer had tried at least one alternative therapy -- and there are many to choose from. From prayer to energy medicine to supplements, potential cancer cures exist from a variety of sources, including these that may surprise you.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/10/05/34861973[1].thb.jpg
Many cancer patients have reported their tumors disappeared after being treated with a diluted form of blue scorpion venom, found only in Cuba.
1. Goji Berries: Goji berries, or wolfberries, are grown in China, Mongolia and Tibet. Popular both in dried berry and juice form, the berries are incredibly rich in iron, antioxidants and vitamin C. Several lab studies have suggested that goji extracts may prevent the growth of cancer cells, and one study on humans, published in the Chinese Journal of Oncology, found that 79 cancer patients responded better to treatment when goji extract was added to their therapies.
2. Essiac: Essiac is an herbal remedy made of Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Inner Bark, Sheep Sorrel and Indian Rhubarb Root. The herbs are said to help cleanse the blood and remove toxins, which helps with cell repair and effective assimilation and elimination. Cancer patients have been using the herbal remedy for decades, and a study funded by the makers of Essiac found that it could kill cancer cells in the lab.
3. Mistletoe Extract: Chemicals in mistletoe (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/05/12/14/mistletoe_why_some_kiss_under_it_others_use_it_medically_and_all_should_be_cautious_with_it.htm) may slow or stop the growth of cancer, according to doctor Brent Bauer, Mayo Clinic's director of Complementary and Intergrative Medicine. The extract has been found to prolong survival in people with breast, rectum, colon, throat, lung and stomach cancers.
For instance, one study published in the May 2001 issue of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine found that participants with breast cancer who were given the extract had a mean survival time of 4.79 years, compared to only 2.41 years for those given a placebo.
4. Raspberries: Raspberries contain ellagic acid (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/05/04/19/ellagic_acid_one_of_the_most_potent_weapons_against_cancer__amp_other_disease.htm), a powerful plant antioxidant. Ellagic acid stimulates activities of enzymes that detoxify carcinogens, according to research by Gary Stoner, PhD, director of the cancer chemoprevention and etiology lab at Ohio State University.
The compound also prevents cancer-causing substances from binding to DNA, reduces cancer in cultured human cells that have been exposed to carcinogens, and promotes apoptosis, or cell death, of cancer cells without harming healthy cells.
5. Deep-Water Sponges: Sponges that live in the deep oceans surrounding the Bahamas contain a compound called discodermolide (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/06/05/31/finding_cures_under_the_sea_the_search_for_new_medicines_in_our_oceans.htm), which is being tested as a potential cancer treatment.
http://www.sixwise.com/images/articles/2006/10/05/22530402[1].thb.jpg
Mistletoe extract may slow or stop the growth of cancer.
6. Chili Peppers: The active ingredient in chili peppers, capsaicin (http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/06/03/29/capsaicin_7_powerful_health_benefits_of_the_stuff_that_makes_peppers_hot_004.htm), (and also what makes them so hot), may one day be used in pill form to keep cancer at bay. The compound caused almost 80 percent of prostate cancer cells to die in mice, and prostate tumors treated with capsaicin were about one-fifth the size of those in untreated mice, according to a study in Cancer Research.
7. Blue Scorpion Venom: Diluted venom from blue scorpions, which are only found in Cuba, has been used to fight cancer for more than 10 years. Though still in the research phase, many patients report that tumors have disappeared upon taking the "medication," which is registered under the name Escoazul at the Cuban Office of Industrial Property.
8. Venus Fly Trap Plant: Carnivora, an extract of the Venus Fly Trap plant, reportedly helps reduce tumor growth when taken orally, and helps heal skin cancers when applied externally. The active component of carnivora is plumbagin, which appears to have powerful immune-stimulating properties. Thousands of cancer patients have been treated with carnivora since the 1980s, including former President Reagan.

dear Res:
Thanks for the powerful --beautiful post. i was gonna come on here w my gripes-- and this is a tough act to follow-- so i'll add one more (miracle "food" or supplement) that I keep touting (and thanks for the reminder, I EAT goji berries for recreation these days! :))
http://medweb.uwcm.ac.uk/dim/images/billly%20brocolli.jpg
DIM (Diindolylmethane) (http://medweb.uwcm.ac.uk/dim/all_about_dim.htm)-- you can get it as a PILL-- but it is something that comes from broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, and other cruciferous vegetables. it is amazing. i am amazed, because I work with people who have KNOCKED cancer DEAD with it--and these people are researchers who are honest and don't have an axe to grind who I talk to in the lunchroom--(while eating my salad;)) as well as in the conference room and the lab. It works especially well for cervical cancer, but people say it also works on prostate and breast cancers, and it is perfectly harmless-- how's that for awesome?
OK, now for my gripe session:
http://www.reise-weblog.de/50226711/images/brownies.jpg
I ate brownies today, not just one. They were free in the kitchen (at work). I was hauling my vitamix in to make my green smoothie-- and there they were. Actually ONE GIANT brownie. I hacked into it, laughing my head off. I told other people. I got in trouble for being raucous. Someone took the last piece off my hands --saying "what are friends for?"
and I don't even feel that bad about it!
finally: about my weight loss-- I could dig up all my records-- but the short version: pre first cleanse-- I weighed like 175 at one point. I did a number of shorter juice fasts, bringing my weight down to 165. After my first MC-- (52 days) I got down to 133. I gained weight and got over 140, bells went off-- I did another MC, which I wasn't too good about. I ended it in the middle and then resumed--for a total of 33 days. My weight went down to 123! That's the best it's been, but I couldn't keep the weight off. It went back over 140 again. Bells went off again. I went on my 3rd MC. This one wasn't as long- but I also broke it in the middle and resumed-- this time for logistical reasons. My lowest weight since: I barely "kissed" 130. Today my weight: 137. I am struggling here. I think I will never let my weight get over 140-- if I can help it-- but getting it below 130 will be a fight-- and I could use all the help I can get.
I'm trying my best to eat well-- but there are days I eat free brownies!
All my best to everyone on your healing journey.
love,
soph

Just prepared and am about to eat my salad (to try to bypass the free food for the special luncheon seminar). Fresh--mix of salad greens from the farm, heirloom (yellow) tomato, a touch of "citrus" cured salmon, raw goat's milk feta (from the farm), avocado, carrot pumpkin seeds, sundried tomatoes in olive oil, sunflower seeds, olive oil and lemon. MMMM!

soph how tall are you? and 52 days and 33 days is friggin' AWESOME! do you reckon one of the reasons of the weight gain was because your metabolism would have slowed right down after such long cleansing periods? as for the brownies, i don't see anything wrong with treating yourself now and again ;) in fact i find if i deny myself, i'll just end up bingeing. so yay for the occasional free brownie!
anyway, today (day 3 post cleanse) went well - I just had a massive salad (I must remember my stomach has shrunk so my portions don't need to be so big) and am feeling rather (uncomfortably) stuffed! it was absolutely gorgeous though.
i had a little "cheat" - i had some houmous spread on rye wafers. was really yum. tummy feels ok!
i woke up having lost another inch from my tummy, i think i'm reaching the stage where i might be getting *too* skinny - but this is good as it means when i gain the weight back on it will be perfect! we'll see... at the moment i have a pot belly from too much food but at least i learnt my lesson :)
started my probiotics... i want a BM sooooooon!

Day 10 weighed 109. I have never weighed that, and it is not healthy for me I am 5'7 That is kind of why I stopped. I tried more syrup, didnt seem to help. Has anyone had this problem. Would like to go on again to clear out sinuses. A little nervous though.

you're crackin me up. i loved the brownies, why not share?
firsttimemastercleanser i'm 5' 6.5" -- I read a lot about how fasting slows the metabolism-- but I was unbelievably active my first cleanse (not like my last-- when I was FREEZING all the time)-- and I can't say for sure if my metab slowed down. I kept the weight down for as long as I was sensible-- which lasted for quite a while. The hard part-- is that in all cases where there was WEIGHT GAIN-- there was a lot of EATING GOING ON! :)
what can I say-- action/reaction-- it's a law of physics-- to be more precise-- calories in.... vs calories burned--- the houmous sounds YUM-- glad you enjoyed it!
I myself am continuing to enjoy food! Some folks here fed me fantastic curried eggplant and potatoes (with cilantro, onions, tomatoes) on home made roti. oh dear. forget it-- there's no diet here. they got a kick out of me eating it-- and I loved it!
allgrace wow-- I envy you the weight loss-- although I HEAR YOU-- Burroughs does say you can GAIN weight on the cleanse: "For those underweight, more maple syrup may be taken. For those who are underweight and worried about losing more weight, REMEMBER, the only things you can possible lose are mucus; waste, and disease. Healthy tissue will not be eliminated. Many people who need to gain weight actually do so near the end of the diet period. Never vary the amount of lemon juice per glass." I think you're right that's why your ears were plugged-- happened to me too! Best of luck!
genem you're so right-- i continued losing weight as long as I behaved myself. ;) (I'm working on it...)

I go through the plugged ear stuff as well. It doesn't stop after the first days either. On Day 18 or so of my last cleanse, I started to hum in the car (by myself) and scared the crap out of myself. I heard this loud noise and thought something was wrong with my car! lol....It was ME HUMMING! My ears plugged and I couldn't hear anything outside of myself and this lasted the entire day. I've had chronic sinus issues and know that the cleanse goes deep and was really going after something. I ended on Day 21 but should have kept going. It's a good thing actually.
HEY! What are you cleansers doing in the "After the cleanse" thread?!?! Silly Gooses. :p lol

I'm three days away from coming off the MC cleanse and am eagerly looking forward to the 2nd day veggie soup. I wanted to find out if it's okay to have organic chicken broth as the broth in the soup. I'm planning a trip to Whole Foods this weekend and saw some and it caught my eye...aside from the fact that it's food related.
Thanks in advance!

psst... Meedis, I've been banned from this thread, but no storebought broth should be used and no meat/chicken should be used.
gotta go before Res and Soph see me, with their evil brownie-cheesecake eating ways.

Hey! Methinks peanut is doing a drive by. Perhaps we should discuss dripping fudge cake and pecan encrusted cheese balls with whole wheat crackers. ;) Well not together...unless you're really hungry. :)
Egads...
Firstime: Isn't that combo fantastic? :D Someone mentioned sprinkling chopped walnuts over the top -which I've done- and THAT is a fantastic idea! Walnuts contain a large amount of Omega-3 fatty acids which inhibits certain types of cancer. So it tastes great AND it's doing a nice job of fighting off junk in your body! It's a win win situation.
Soph: the dates are A-ok because they're FIBER full. So eat up and it will move out the brownie. ;) Plus you have those Turkish Figs working for you too. Mmmm figs. It's 5:30 in the morning and I haven't had anything to eat yet....I have a pear staring at me. I may have to engage it. :p
So, to everyone After the Cleanse....find an eating plan and STICK TO IT. For those doing well, post your plan here to help the rest. And to you Lurking Cleansers....cheese danish. :p Now get back to your lemonade!! ;)
Love to all,
~Res

don't forget Res
you think you're tormenting Pea-- but she's in another land-- that's craving FREE-- probably immune to those fudge cake pecan crusted balls yer talkin about.
you have, on the other hand-- stabbed me-- hard-- and my only revenge is this:
I MADE A GREEN SMOOTHIE so thick-- it can stand up to any of this--with DATES, and (TURKISH) FIGS-- banana, orange, and some sortof horrid GREENS. the worst of it-- is-- mea culpa-- put in vanilla (eden) soy extra-- sunflower seeds and raw tahini, not to also mention flax-- and the thing prob'ly has more calories than a slice of pizza.http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/ernaehrung/food-smiley-019.gifhttp://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
LOVE TO YOU ALL whichever side of the fence you're on!

POST SCRIPT: oh my GOD-- there just came a knock at the door-- and the guy who was feeding me roti yesterday-- (my revenge was to give him organic chocolate) just said: "You're in for worse-- I made banana nut bread yesterday-- it's with Arati (his wife)" but he's bringing it now and putting it THERE--> (he said, pointing to the nook where we all share...) God must be doing this so I learn how to eat.http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif
and as if this wasn't bad enough-- I went to the kitchen to refill my green smoothie-- and there was the corner of a currant tart
http://www.fbnr.com/food_shots/2/201/20100.jpg
and a strawberry-- and what can I say--http://www.websmileys.com/sm/drink/trink11.gif-- I SNARFED IT ALL UP!

How adorable is that, blue currants!!!
http://www.grubreport.com/photos/currants.jpg
I posted a recipe in the recipe box about Raw Apple Pie (which is amazing). I'm going to make the crust (made with dates and walnuts) and create a RAW Blue Currant PIE!! Soph you're killing me. And if you're killing me, the Little Lurking Cleansers are sure to be gritting their teeth! (craving free, huh? hahahahahaha *cough*)
The uh, um, green smoothie sounds, uh, delightful.... Perhaps you can shape it into a lemon and let it dry. Then use it as "art deco". ;)
I'm still mesmerized by your "carrot tops" which I haven't made yet...I should do that tonight.
So, saute raw carrot tops in olive oil and use soy sauce or tamari? Garlic and lemon and eat? Yes?
I have raw cuc's & red bell pepper on my desk with a deep red tomato and raw cashews... I also have a small chunk of organic chocolate...lots & lots of water and a lemon (you just can't get away from them). I love squeezing the lemon in the water...mmmm.
Okay, enough!!
Love to all! :D

goodness gracious <EXPLITIVE DELETED> Res!! you're making me LAUGH OUT LOUD-- like a cackling fool in my tiny two chair office here-- and I've already been REPRIMANDED for my raucous behaviour-- now they're gonna add luncacy to the list.http://www.websmileys.com/sm/happy/605.gif
--and umm-- arn't u the one that broke the news that raw cashews ain't RAW???

Yeah, Soph,
I think Res did talk about the "raw" cashews.
But I think you're on the hook for false reporting: that currant tart didn't have a "corner"! :D

Soph:
Yes, yes about the raw cashews but I KNOW that. :p They're "steamed" I guess and not truly raw. Saw a photo of the raw cashews and they come in a weird air tight bag and they look wet....very costly - may have to just soak my nuts.
mtmouse: HAHAHAHA about the "corner". I'd love to say "BUSTED" but, that wasn't the exact "Tart" she was referring to. lol :D
Have to post this cause I'm on a roll. I suppose if the "junk food" mood hits, it might as well be healthy "junk food". ;)
No Bake Carrot Cake (From some London people so spelling and references are going to be a bit Brit. :))
*References to :Chet" means Chet Day. www.chetday.com (http://www.chetday.com/). Well worth a visit.
Its wonderful moist rich tasting cake and no baking either.
1/2 cup of soft pitted dates
1/2 cup of drained chopped frozen or frsh pineapple
3/4 cup of dried apples
1 cup of carrot pulp
1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of allspice
Puree the dates and pineapple. Grind the apples till fine and mix all ingredients together.
Shape into two layer 'cakes' about 6 inches
round.
Assemble the layers one on the other with frosting between and on top.
Chet's cream frosting is easy but takes 12 hours and the family wouldn't wait till tomorrow. You put equal parts of soaked and rinsed cashews, and water and blend until creamy.
Then put into a mesh bag over night to produce a cream cheese, which can be flavoured with a couple of dates to 1/2 cup of cheese and 1/2 teaspoon of almond
extract, and he suggests sweetening with rice bran syrup, whatever that is. It must be specifically American and I guess honey would have to substitute over here.
Well worth the effort and the tops for a treat meal.
Cheers! :)
