Hello all,

I'm now in the market for a new juicer. Does anyone have any recommendations or any experiences with brands to avoid?

I'm looking for ease of use (never owned one before) and one that is moderately priced. I'd be willing to pay $200 if I know it will last and do a great job.

Looking forward to your opinions!

Thanks!

I found a great site in my search for a juicer:

http://www.happyjuicer.com/

They review several juicers and have loads of information on juicing.

Still searching and hoping to hear from you guys!

Lissa,

We bought an Omega 8005 and are totally happy with it. It can juice wheat grass, fruits/vegetables, and even make nut butters! It has several attachments and is a breeze to clean. It retails for about $250, but I was able to find it for about $212 delivered off Nextag or Pricegrabber or one of the other shopping sites. (I use about 5 different sites like that to find great deals on the internet)

There are two models, the 8003 has white plastic casing (about $200 delivered) and the 8005 has stainless steel casing (that's what we bought). The casing doesn't really affect the functionality at all, just looks.

Mercola raved about this juicer and we have been incredibly satisfied with it. Not sure what you found on that other link because I haven't checked it out, but you might want to look at Mercola's links on this juicer:

http://www.mercola.com/article/juicer.htm
http://www.mercola.com/article/juicer_comp.htm

Hope this helps,
Luke

BTW - day 19 today... almost half way there for me. The lemonades are tasting pretty gross lately. I'm keeping on, but not enjoying them anymore. It's just a "slam 'em down" at this point. I still have "stuff" coming out, so it's probably 40 days for me, maybe more. Bahia (William) said it took him 40-45 days for all his stuff to come out on a previous cleanse... not sure what it will take for me, but I'm pressing on to "clarity". I read one of your other posts and am sorry you are getting those pains. I can't say I've experienced that. I don't know if it is something to push through or if it would be more wise to stop soon and rebuild your nutrient base... tough call. Hope it gets better either way.

Luke,

I was just thinking about you this morning! Funny how things work ;-)

Thank you for the info on the juicer. I will definitely check it out. The happy juicer site is based in the UK so the information is slightly different as well as less of a possibility of getting them here in the US. So I will see what Mercola has to say. Glad to hear an opinion from a fellow MC'er.

Day 19! Wow...time flies, doesn't it? I know what you mean about the lemonade. Yuck. Not that it's gross, but my body is totally ready for something else. Can't wait for the OJ or watermelon on that first day. Mmmmm...watermelon.

Thank you also for replying about my other post. Yeah, it's just sort of a weird thing and strangely enough, it only happens once a day for about 5 minutes and then passes. Strange. Well, only today, tomorrow and Saturday to deal with it! Can't believe I'll reach my goal of 21 days. Part of me wants to go longer to get the same "clarity" that you're talking about, but the other part of me figures that since this is my first cleanse, I shouldn't push it. I will be back to do another in September after we come back from Aruba. I know I will eat HORRIBLY while down there, but what the heck, it's vacation.

Glad to hear you're hanging in there! Keep in touch!

Luke,

Just read all about the Omega! Sounds fantastic! I can get it through a site called BuyeRetail.com...which was through pricegrabber. Thanks so much for that! I'm going to order it today!

I got the Jack Lalaine juicer at Costco for about $100 and it is the best I have ever used.

I just was looking at the Jack Lalanne juicer at Costco!
They had two, the white one with all the accesories and a chrome model without. Which do you have and how is the taste of the lemons compaired to the old fashion reammer style of juice. We have four of us doing the MC and that's a lot of squeezing the old fashion way. I have been using organic lemons, so would I just through the whole thing in the JL Juicer, skin and all? I would think the "juice" would be much thicker and healthier and I'd get more for my $$$. I've been paying anywhere from .79 - $1.19 per lemon.
Thanks,

this is a dumb question but i really want an answer -
what can a juicer do differently to a blender?
my mum offered to buy me a juicer for my birthday and i just want to make sure that's what I really want. I already have a blender I make smoothies in.

Please tell me all the great benefits of a juicer as well. I'm going to wiki it (as I google and/or wikipedia everything) but it helps to hear from real people as well. (since the people at wikipedia are only pretend)

thanks

hi, peanutterb.... to simplify, juicers are basically for veggies, blenders are for fruits (and nuts).

The primary base ingredient for juicers is carrots. Carrot juice is an incredible food. (yes, I know carrot juice has gotten a bad rap lately because, supposedly it's high glycemic but actually it is medium glycemic. It is very high nutrition.) One can live exclusively on carrot juice.

The primary base for blenders is bananas. Then frozen strawberries. fun, fun, fun.

Green drinks can be made with either. however, you'll need a juicer specifically for greens. Spin-juicers don't do greens well.

If you don't like carrots, you won't like carrot juice.

I have the Jack Lalanne also, but don't really like the cleanup.

I just purchased the Bullet that has a juicer attachment that falls inside the blender. I have made fruit juices, chicken salads, frozen drinks for my family.
I have not tried making any veggie drinks yet.

buythebullet.com.

I make my lemonade in this when I make 30oz for the day when I drive into the office.

It is also great for making one or two glasses of drink quickly.

Hi Rosebud:

We're talking Apples & Oranges here.

The Vita-mix although it can pulverize everything it's not really a juicer. It can't extract the juice from the pulp. Everything can be mixed all together. I have a Champion juicer which works great for juicing only, but the Vitamix can make soup and fantastic smoothies the champion can't.

You may want both.

Clear as mud? ;)

Love,

RES, thanks for your response. i thought it was better to get the pulp, plus the juice. i would be getting more vitamins and minerals. or r u just meaning for the MC , i should be drinking the juice only?

RB: :) I wasn't talking MC. Just differentiating between the Vitamix (which is fantastic) and the Champion Juicer (fantastic as well) and what they do.

Sometimes I just want carrot juice...nothing else so I'll use the Champion.

The Vitamix says to use "mini carrots" and ice and water....too much work at times. I'd rather just clean the champion and get straight juice.

So a juicer AND a vitamix are idea... and THANKS TO KATHY (mtmouse :p ) now I have to buy a different dehydrator.

I hope this helps.

Love,

Hey I was wondering can I use my juicer on the master cleanse, skin pulp and all. Or is it stricktly juice? Please help??

Paddy, I think it's supposed to be strictly juice, but I will defer to the more knowledgeable MCers out there!

BTW what do ya'll think about the Breville juicer? There's one KEp5XL that looks good to me.

Well, I just bought the Breville JX95XL from Bed Bath & Beyond. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet but the kids are really excited & I bought a bunch of green stuff to try to make some "green lemonade" ( from Natalia Rose's book Raw Food Detox Diet). I'll let y'all know how it works out!:p

Paddy,

Burroughs says you can include the lemon pulp in your cleanse, but you will possibly experience stronger detox, so cut back if you get too uncomfortable.

Also, unless you're using organic lemons, I wouldn't include any of the peel.

Some people have made a "dessert" of lemon pulp mashed up with maple syrup and eat it with a spoon! :)

Hi Paddy, if they are organic then it is quite alright.

Has anyone used the Omega 8003 or 8005? I'm curious as to how it compares with the Champion. Thanks!

I have a Vitamix and use it for everything. When I want vegetable juice, I just add more water to make it thinner. I personally think that drinks have more nutrition if the pulp is included (in most cases). However, today, I put whole peeled lemons in the Vitamix for the MC, and the taste was too bitter, so I'll go back to just juice tomorrow.

I agree about including the pulp. I just hate tossing all the fiber. Since I discovered green [pink] smoothies, I almost never juice fruits or veggies any more.

Hi everyone
I am coming off of my MC2 any day now (I keep changing my mind). I am planning on going all raw for at least about 2 weeks after the cleanse, and am planning on incorporating raw meals into my diet often.

I am looking at vita mix's on ebay and was wondering what information and advise any of you may have. I have been interested in buying one for some time. I dont know anyone with one, so I havent seen one before.
I just dont know about different models, what really makes a difference and what to look for in buying a used one.

Or do I just want a food processor? I have a blender and access to a juicer so I dont need wither one for these things, just for everything else.

What do you all think??
Any advise is helpful!
Thanks so much
LJ

All that would depend on your intent in getting any of the mentioned items.

First, my Vita-Mix gets used daily. Before purchasing from eBay I would check on the warranty. As far as models go, from what I've heard, they're all good. You'll probably not need the dry blade unless you're planning on making bread or something. You can go to http://www.vitamix.com and get more information on the difference.

The VM is NOT a juicer although some use it as such by running the mixture through a strainer. Personally, I drink it all because the fiber is great for elimination.

So, if you've got the funds, I'd say a V-M and an fp and, always purchase the best you can afford.

E.

Hi -

I live in the Seattle area and just came upon a great raw food website. It's www.rawwashington.org

They have posted links to all sorts of information, and one website worth checking out is www.discountjuicers.com I've not ordered anything through this site, but thought others might want to have a look at it. Happy juicing!

I looked the the 4 pages of threads and didn't see anything related, so if I am duping this topic, please feel free to move it to the appropriate area!

I am on Day 5, and up until today, I had been using a jenky little hand juicer I won at a bingo game at a company picnic. It served the purpose, but I wasn't getting enough juice! Since I buy the organic lemon and limes, they can be quite pricey.

I bought this at Wal Mart today for $10!

http://www.blackanddeckerappliances.com/product-120.html

I just made my batch for work tomorrow, and it was so much easier! I got way more juice and it strained more of the seeds.

Thought I would share since I know not everyone has expensive juicers, and it was so cheap. This will work great for the mornings I am running late for work!

The champion juicer is by far the best juicer I have ever had. Also all the wearable parts are easily replacable from the manufacturer and is made in the USA (http://www.championjuicer.com). It should last forever. For juicing information I would Highly recommend Dr Norman Walkers book. (Just look it up an amazon). For the lemon cleanse however I have an electric juicer made for citrus. I find this a little easier for just juicing lemons. The difference between Juicers and Blender is the juicer seperates the pulp. My citrus juicer has a setting to allow pulp or no pulp. I always go for the pulp to have something to chew on a little. Also I occasionally put the carrot juice pulp from the champion juicer in a bowl with a little Braggs aminos and eat it up. It is pretty tasty although a bit dry (which shows how good the juicer works). Hope this helps.

someone told me you can make smoothies with the champion, is this right? They said they'd seen a demonstration at the fair here where the demonstrator put a frozen banana into the champion and it came out like a smoothie -- can you really do this? Because most juicers I've looked at just juice -- strictly.

If this is correct, I'm totally buying one. :)

mtmouse
June 21st, 2007, 08:00 PM
Oh, you can definitely do that with the Champion. It comes out like soft ice cream. However, I have the Champion and I do that with frozen bananas (and strawberries, mangos, and blueberries, among others) with my Cuisinart!

So you don't need the Champion for that alone.

I love my Champion but it's a pain in the butt to assemble, disassemble, and clean. And I've since really stopped using it as a juicer, because I prefer to make smoothies with all the fiber in there instead of tossing it.
