View Full Version : Taking It Easy
Peter

For those people who have decided they should take it easy, I recommend the following:
1. Drink only the minimum 6 drinks of lemonade each day.
2. Be sure to drink the herbal laxative tea every evening.
3. Drink at least 1 oz. of water or lemonade for each 2 lbs of your body weight each day. (Don't drink more than 6 lemonades a day.)
4. Be sure to do the salt water flush as given each morning.
5. Take long, soaking hot baths to draw out toxins.
6. Immediately discontinue the Master Cleanse if any detox symptoms do not disappear or lessen with the next day's eliminations.
7. Then eat fresh raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds for a month or so. (Even then, you may have to eat some cooked rice or bread to slow down the detox.)
The reasoning behind the recommendations above is to detoxify very lightly, but use the maximum amount of elimination methods so that whatever toxins are mobilized are quickly eliminated before being reabsorbed. Remember, you can do the Master Cleanse several times. So, do not push it.

today is day 3 for me and i didn't do the swf this morning but the tea instead. it has been almost 3 hours and no elimination. may have to get up earlier tomorrow morning and do the swf. it works fast. i don't want to be stopped up and the tea does not seem to be as effective as the swf. i'm drinking the lemonade and water in between. any suggestions?

Hi. :)
That sounds pretty normal. We call it "butt-pee". :)
Burroughs says that if you can't do the SWF, then tea morning and night is fine. However, if you can get to a health food store and pick up Celtic Gray Sea Salt, you'd be happily surprised at the difference between that and regular sea salt. It's much more mild and pretty easy to get down.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the swf. Hang in there and keep going. Congrats on making it to day 5. You're halfway there!! :D

ojhhh an an added note...is it okay if u just do the tea once a day....like nothing in the morning and just the tea at night or should u do it all twice a day...im in the middle of exams and to get up to go to the washroom would be a no-no in the exam but im done in 2 days...so will 3 total days without the morning tea or salt be okay?

Hi Miss, the cayenne is used according to taste. So put in as little as you want and work up to it. The SWF or lax tea HAS to be done in the morning. The SWF is out of the system in about one hour, where the lax tea is an all day going to the bathroom thing, but not with so much urgency. To remove the toxins and get them OUT of your body, you need to do both the SWF and tea. One can feel quite ill if they don't.
good luck on your exams!

Today was my first day and all i could think about every 5 minutes was everything i was missing- i never realized how much attention i put on food&coffee- the special cafe's i love, the places i go to buy my favorite lunch and of course Whole Foods...in the spirit of taking it easy since i was so sick today; headaches, dizziness etc. i decided all the $ i spend daily i would just use it at WF on a 20 min massage .. i actually felt a little better and have continued with suggestions( sauna/rest) i have read on this BB-thankgod for this board it was all that kept me going from 3:30pm on (my usual coffee and muffin time) thanks to everyone who contributes here! i am finally home and made it through.

Hi Jules, you can NOT consume the capsules of cayenne, sorry, only the cayenne. What I do is take the capsules to work with me and open them up in my bottle of lemonade. Each capsules is about 1/4 tsp of cayenne, so I use one for three drinks (30 ounces). NO to caps since they are gelatin and have to get digested. Cayenne is 1/10 tsp per drink, or to taste. Some mix the cayenne with water or the lemonade and just take it in one gulp, not adding it in. I like a little spice, so I add mine, and there is always some left in the bottom since it does not mix up entirely so I get a shot of it anyway! Try using celtic grey sea salt, it does taste milder. Or go the lax tea route, day and then before bed.
Hope this helps.

I'm a little worried. I've only been on the cleanse for approximately twenty four hours now, and I'm covered in hives. My allergies are my main reason for doing this cleanse. My body is surely out of balance. Maybe the hives will away after the SWC? I finished my drink about 15 minutes ago... fingers are crossed. Is this a cleanse reaction or an allergic reaction to something in the tea? I only ask as it's been such a short period of time.

I'm hoping that I'm drinking the correct amount for lemonade for my body. (On Peter's post it 1. and 3. i was curious if i was following it correctly) I am on day 6 (1stMC) and I have been drinking
Day1, 75 0Z of Lemonade + SWF +water +lax tea +peppermint tea
day 2, 90 oz of Lemonade + same stuff
day 3, 80 oz of Lemond. + same ( 2 Peppermint tea)
Day 4, 70 oz of Lemond + same
day 5, 70 oz of Lemond. +same
day ^ Today so far 60 of Lemonade,SWF, some water no teas yet
Can anyone tell me if this amount of lemonade is ok I calculated the amount of lemonade for my weight at about (Height 5'7) 170 starting ( doc's scale said 174 the day b4 MC and home scale said 166) so i rounded off. But for weight loss I go by home scale.

According to your body weight, all you need to drink is 85 oz per day. Don't count the teas. This would be water and LA's. And if you are doing the SWF, you probably would not count that either as you are expelling it within 2 hours of drinking so none is staying in your body. So, if you are doing a minimum of LA's, that is 60 oz.
Hope this helps. :)

Thank you very much I was a little concerned I didn't want to have my body go into starvation mode or go overboard either. I'm not sure if my headache right now is due to me waiting a little to long to drink my lemonade that would put me at 70 oz for the day, even though i drank water. I'm drinking some pepermint tea now to see if it helps.

Lalalimon: Burroughs states that you need to drink 6 to 12 ten ounce lemonades per day. Don't go above the 12 and don't drop below the 6. Drink when you're hungry and drink water in between. :)

I AM A NEWBIE AND I COULD USE SOME HELP PLEASE! I am doing all the research before I start the cleanse (i.e. reading the book, checking the website and posts, etc...) I have some questions and since I am not allowed to post my own thread I am not sure where to ask them... I have an auto-immune disease similar to Multiple Sclerosis... from everything I have been reading so far I would fall into the "taking it easy" category since heavy detoxing for me can easily produce a "healing crisis" or exacerbation of symptoms. (This happened a couple years ago when I was participating in Bee Venom Therapy). I could really use some help and advice as to where to direct my questions, including: Has any one else with MS or similar auto-immune disease tried the Master Cleanse? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated... I plan to start the cleanse next month (February of '07).

Hi TeraJo24 and Welcome! Sorry for the delayed response. I've been out of town; just got back tonight. There have been a few others with MS who have posted with questions, but I haven't found any others besides myself who have posted results, so I don't know if any of them completed the cleanse.
Oh by the way, there is a thread already addressing MS - spelled out, of course. (As you've probably discovered, it's impossible to do a search for MS since it means Maple Syrup on this board! LOL!)
My exacerbations have not yet sent me to the hospital, so I may not be the best test-case for you to compare against. I took it kinda easy on my first cleanse (tried to keep it to 6 lemonades a day as recommended and didn't exercise much. Rested as much as I could manage, which was more than normal), but then I extended the cleanse because I kept having detox symptoms and didn't want to quit in the middle of a healing crisis. Anyway, the MC has been miraculous for me. I've rid myself of migraines and other more minor aches and pains. My balance has gotten better (more consistent) and my numbness and tingling is mostly gone. I still have other annoying symptoms which is why I'm on a cleanse now, trying to rid myself of a few more things I 'no longer need!' :D I'm a huge fan of the MC and doing it by the book. I would recommend doing the cleanse, but taking it easy as recommended .... at least for the first time. See how it goes, and talk with your neurologist first just to be safe. My only caution is that the detox symptoms can be pretty severe -- that's how you get rid of stuff. So, if you think you might stop the cleanse if the symptoms get painful, you may want to try a milder cleanse, like a juice or raw foods 'cleanse.' Feel free to send me a PM.
Wishing you the best! I'd love some company here in the MS department.

I tried the MC this past summer and on the fourth day I had to stop. Absolutely nothing was happening and I just felt like I hadn't eaten anything in that time. I was tired, lathargic, and worried as no changes had occurred. I have a history of medical drugs for depression - about 10 years (I'm been off them for about a year) - and I spoke to my doctor about possible dangers on the cleanse. He wasn't pleased that I was doing the cleanse in the first place, but he said there wouldn't be a problem with toxins as the body cleanses itself completely every 6 months (???? no wonder people are turning to cleanses...)
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am excited for the cleanse but want to make sure I will get safe, effective results.
Thanks! Peace and love.

Lennon: If your doctor said to go for it then go for it. What kinds of results were you looking for in 4 days? And most importantly, did you read Peter's book? The book is full of "What to expect" during the cleanse and there are stages.
The first 3 days are usually the oddest because you're getting into the "routine" of the cleanse, meaning not putting everything and anything into your mouth whenever you feel like it. There's a reason Burroughs says 10 days and not 4 or 6. Make up your mind that you're going for 10 days and stick to it no matter what. The whole idea here is "DETOX" and I can't stress it enough. It's not a magical weight loss program - instead it's ridding your body of disease. :)

I am having difficulty with the MC. It is my first MC, 5th day. Because of years of multiple medications and many allergies, I attempted to limit myself to 6 glasses/day of the lemonade (per the book's instructions). I have been hungry almost constantly. Not craving any particular food, but an actual feeling in the pit of my stomach. So on day 4, I drank 7 lemonades. Today, day 5, after glass number 3, I vomited. Should I be drinking more than 6, and if not, how can I stop the hunger?
Other problems I am experiencing:
Because of fibromyalgia, I have not slept well in years. I take a prescription muscle relaxer and an herbal remedy before bed to help me sleep. I stopped taking both on the MC. The night of day 1, I slept fine. However, the past 3 nights have been awful. I lay awake, unable to get comfortable, in pain. So now I am exhausted and weak. Is this a detox symptom or lack of my usual sleep aids? I thought detox symptoms go away with the next day's elimination, not last 3 days (and counting).
I also stopped taking bio-identical hormones when I started the MC. I am having wicked hot flashes, followed by periods of being extremely cold. I don't know if this is a detox symptom or lack of the hormones? Again, if detox, why is it lasting so long?
I need some help, please. I am considering breaking the fast and going to a raw food diet before trying again. BTW, I've lost 5.5 lbs. and would like to lose 20-30 lbs.
Thank you.

I have a question about taking it easy...
Is the 1 oz of water for every 2lbs of weight in addition to the 6 glasses of lemonade per day?
I had back surgery 2 months ago, and because of my lack of exercise, the stress from the surgery, and having no energy I want to try at least a 10 day cleanse. I know that my body is still adjusting and recovering from the surgery, but I feel that more than anything else it's the extra 20 pounds that I have gained that is making me feel helpless and kind of depressed.
I am going to go hunt down the maple syrup tomorrow and hopefully be ready to start the cleanse by the end of the week. I just want to make sure that i am fully prepared and have all my facts straight.
I really love this board, it is so helpful and motivational. I'm looking forward to great results from the cleanse!

Hi! I'm a newbie. I'm on the end of my third day. I have bad cravings here and there, but have been pretty good til earlier this evening. I did the SWF this a.m. and am drinking the Lax tea now. Earlier this evening, i had a few pieces of watermelon. Scratch that - it was like 8-10 square/chunks. And it was SOOO good. I knew i shouldn't b/c as of today my body is really going to start detoxing, but i couldnt' help it. I'm not being too hard on myself b/c my cravings were even hot dogs, hamburgers and all that other good stuff i knew people were enjoying.
I've been kinda tired and am getting tired of the lemon drink. But i'm trying to stick with it.
If i do only 5 days is that ok? Or do i really need to do 10 days? I have plans this weekend and don't see myself having the self control - so i was going to give myself a little leeway to enjoy somethings - and not be too hard on myself, so if i do have something i will try to focus on something good for my body, and not feel like a failure, throw in teh towel and eat a whopper.
1) was the watermelon that awful?
2) is 5 days enough?
3) what should i "cheat" with if i am going to "cheat?"
thanx

acj2007,
As I see it, you haven't done five days. Were you thinking of five days from now?
If you do less than 10 days straight, you get all the bad parts and none of the good parts.
So if you can't do 10 days from here, I'd suggest you go ahead and stop now and plan a cleanse for a time when you can actually do the whole 10 days. It really is better for your body that way.
The watermelon started up your digestion all over again, just as you (and the cleanse) were getting it shut down. Now you'd have to go over that territory again. You can pick up the cleanse, but you can't pick up the "beginning" again. You just have to start it over.
The same holds true for any "cheating". Even gum. It starts up the digestion, counteracts the effects of the cleanse, makes you hungrier, and defeats the purpose.
Perhaps you would prefer to look up some other sorts of cleanses, like shorter juice fasts or the like, which might be more appropriate for where you are right now in your life. But I can't recommend doing the MC unless you can do a minimum of 10 days "by the book".
The three days you did so far aren't a total waste. They've given you an idea what to expect and what it takes to commit to something like the MC. And maybe there will be a time in the future where you really will stick it out and get the benefits.
Hope so! It really is worth it.

Hi, I've done a Cleanse three times in the past year and am on Day 2 of my Fourth cleanse. I currently do it with a few added fruit juices each day as well. I didnt' realize you can just do the Lemonade the whole time. That is something I may have to consider. I will no doubt be buying the Lemon book and the Master Cleanse book. HOWEVER, My personal opinion is that a person should listen to their body while on a Fast and when they are truly hungry, not having just cravings, they should break the fast. Overall though,, is he feeling detoxified at this point? Maybe he should add a glass of diluted pear or cherry juice each day at lunch and then a glass or organic vegetable juice at dinner. That works really dood for me and I feel like I get the same benefit. But the most important thing is : LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. It will tell you what it needs. He can do his NEXT fast longer.... some people need to work up to 10 days and cannot do it right off the bat the first time. That is ok. He has not "failed" just because he doesn't do the full Ten Days right out of the chute. I hope this helps. :)

If one is hungry on the cleanse, it's important to simply drink more lemonade. He can also add more MS to the lemonade if he wishes. You can basically have as many calories as you want on the cleanse--so there's no need to ever be truly hungry. It's important, though, to stick to the guidelines if you want to do the MC: nothing but water, lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne, SWF, and the occasional glass of mint tea.

Hi,
My name is Carmen and I'm on day one. About 4 hours into it. I'm terrified. I'm not doing the cleanse to lose weight, I'm trying to cleanse myself of all the old medication I've been on since I was 15 so I can try something else (and maybe actually stick with it.)
My question is... I've been somewhat of a binge drinker for almost three years. I've finally come to the point where I don't want to drink like that anymore. My body aches all the time, I'm always hungover-- I just don't want to put my body thru that kind of misery any longer.
Is it really true that someone like me will no longer crave alcohol after the cleanse is through? Has anyone experienced this? I don't want to go on all the detox, pretty much feel like I have a four day hangover and then go right back to craving it like some people crave chocolate. :) Also, has anyone else felt like they're drunk?? Kinda annoying.

Hi Dsesti, I agree with mtmouse's advise. Plus, water seems to help alot. Drinking a glass of lemondrink, then a glass of water. It will pass. If he is on day5 and doing as the books suggests, believe me, he IS detoxing and getting results.
Just keep with the MC. He is half way there.. excellent! This cleanse is NOT for wimps! Those who do other juices during the MC are doing a modified version of it and would not take their advise... shrugssss
It is ain't broke, don't fix it!
All the best.

This is Day 2 of the cleanse for me and my husband. So far just tired- today seems better than yesterday. My husband is having headaches and vomitted last night. Is that common? I have read about nausea in Peter's Book, but not vomiting. So far today seems better for him, but still has a headache.
Just wondering if this is normal. We are following the directions for the cleanse as directed- so I am not sure what else I can do to help him. I suggested he drink only 6 lemonades and drink more water. Any suggestions out there?

Hi CatherineLott: It sounds like your husband is doing some serious detoxing! The first 2-3 days are the worst! Tell him to hang in there, drink as much water and lemonade as he can. If he needs to rest, then he should do that as well. Good luck to both of you! :)

Hi All!
A week ago I was at a client's talking to our chiro (he works on horses and humans and he and I were both working on horses that day) and I told him he looked great.
Come to find out he had 'discovered' the MC and had done it for like 25 days. Said he'd never felt better, etc.
So I dug into looking into it and decided to do it and started Monday...so this is day 3. My landlady and I are toughing this out together...I think it helps to have some one to comiserate with! Also another friend is attempting it and hopefully he'll stick with it for at least 10 days as well.
I have no problem with the tea...no cramps, etc...I get the chocolate flavored Smooth Move and tell myself it is my dessert each evening and my morning 'treat'!!! Salt water doesn't much bother me as I have done 'flushes' with it in the past.
Day One - Felt awesome in the morning, worked out for 90 minutes (I lift and run) and all was well. At around 2 p.m. I got hit with a headache that was second to NONE and then started throwing up and managed to have the dry heaves. I drank some mint tea to settle my stomach and stayed in bed. At 2 a.m. I got up and took 2 excedrine migraine (I suffer from migraines badly when I get them) and went back to bed and did Reiki on myself as I am a Reiki practitioner and by 3 a.m. I had a total moment of clarity and everything literally lifted from my being...
Day Two - After the Reiki and the 'lifting' experience (which can happen with Reiki), I felt great all day but was sort of tired. I decided to give myself 2-3 days off from working out. Worked at home (self-employed) for 8 hours. I am finding that due to my sensitivities to spices and especially cayenne pepper, it's tricky for me...
Day Three - Last night I actually slept for 5 hours straight without waking up restless...am VERY VERY tired and having a problem moving forward. But I am doing okay. I'm horribly bored as I love cooking and while I'm not really hungry, I do enjoy eating generally healthy food!
I suspect I'll be more resigned to this in the next day or two. Cheers.

I finished my first cleanse almost one month ago - and I'm feeling great except for some small blemishes that have now popped up on my face. Anyways!
Here is the situation I have a question on:
My mom has suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for the past 10 years (she's 42 years old). She's been on medication FOR the past 10 years and is currently on Humira and other anti inflammatory drugs (to keep the swelling down). During the past 10 years, she has gained some serious weight - almost 150lbs. Partially from the medication, partially because she's not very active (and can't be because her knees swell with water and she is unable to walk).
So it's basically been this vicious cycle of...taking medication for pain, gaining weight, more pressure on the knees, more pain...more medication for pain...etc.
We need her to lose some weight so that it lifts the pressure off her knees, and I thought a good way to do that would be to drink the master cleanse lemonade juice throughout the day, then have a light dinner. Would this be okay?
Taking her off the medication at this point is out of the question - although she really is interested in doing the master cleanse full on - I'm afraid that will leave her in bedrest for a good two months. (The last time she went off her meds was for an herbal detox, and that left her in the worst condition I'd ever seen experienced.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything will help. Thanks!

It seems like she might want to ask her Doctor? I can tell you from personal experience, that I have ankylosing spondylitis (it is in the same "family" of disease as Arthritis) which requires I take anti-inflammatories each day. I didn't take anything while on my first mc, and I felt great (I am under the impression that the food I eat promotes my inflammation). Here is the section from the Newbie thread regarding medication

Hope that helps ;)

Today is the 6th day of my cleanse. I've lost 11 pounds. My lower back has been very achey for 3 days now. It comes and goes. It feels better after a hot, soaking bath. Is this a normal detox symptom?
Also, my sister told me last night that the whites of my eyes are yellowish. Normal?
Why am I having acid reflux?
My goal is to continue this cleanse for a month. It has amazed me at how much I enjoy the act of eating. I'm not truly hungry, but do miss the social aspects of eating, as well as all the textures and flavors. Kudos to all those who stick this out. I just keep telling myself "What's 30 days out of my whole life?" I can do this !
Thanks for your help.

I have some concerns about what happened to me. I looked at the Take It Easy notes and it is basically the MC with a bath throw in so I am confused.
I did the laxative tea the other night and within minutes my head got dizzy, and remained so. I figured I wasn't used to the tea. Got up the next morning with a ripping headache, and realized I bought the wrong salt, so I did another tea. Then I started my lemonade drinking. After a couple hours I was so dizzy I couldn't stand so I sat and continued drinking lemonade. The front of my brain felt like it was on fire, my vision got very blurry, I was eliminating often, but the pounding headache became extreme. I thought I might be dehydrated so I started drinking water and the water came right back up. Around four hours after I started the initial process I was so tired and my headache turned into a migraine so I laid down and literally blacked out for a little over five hours. I quit right there. When I woke this morning the middle of each side of my back was very painful (I'm guessing kidney area) so I drank a quart of plain water and had lots of elimination.
I realise that I am very toxined. Some time ago my bicycle was hit by a car that ran a red light and I was severely brain injured and paralyzed and took over 20 pills a day (three of them steroids) for almost a year. (Was told I might never walk or talk again but I have overcome that.) Then, since I was on welfare, I was put into lower living apartment by United Way that had mold growing up the walls, and the landlord (colorado) would not fix it and would not let me out of my lease. I developed an extreme cough ever since then. And, as a result of the accident, I am now very overweight. So yes, I really need to clean this stuff out. But now I am scared to death, especially since it is my understanding that migraines are mini-strokes.
Any suggestions are greatly valued and appreciated. Thank you.

I think I found your unaswered question what you mentioned today :)
It seems you are right. Some people's bodies are more toxic (or toxined?) then others'. And for many, fasting is a too harsh detox method. Of course it doesn't mean you can't detox, you just need to choose a different way to do so. Juice fasting also detoxing and it's lighter on the body. You can buy books about, I recommend to google it.
It's possible that even juice fasting will be hard to handle in your condition, but again, no reason to worry, because raw food diet is a very safe, gentle, slow detox as well, and I never heard anyone who couldn't do it due to health problems.Viktoria Boutenko has written in her books how she and her family overcame sickness. Just do a search, and you find lots of very good reading about the topic!
One more thing: It's really unfortunate, that you live in an apartment with mold.Your landlord supposed to take care of your problem. If he/she refuses, you can absolutely seek legal help! (I know, I work for a landlord!) ;)
Good luck to you! I really hope yo'll find the best method for yourself and will feel great!

Hi, I've just completed my 4th day of my 1st MC and I've had to end it there, :( my old allergy to lemons kicked in again after 10 years, a detox thing I know, but unfortunately it kicked in my asthma big time. So I've decided I need to take it easier yet.
I have no jucier so I think the fresh fruit and veggies is the way for me to go, but my question is after 4 days of the MC do I still need to take it easy coming off of it? I don't think drinking orange juice is an option for me at this point, can I just switch to fresh fruits and veggies or do I need to do something else first? Also, should I continue with the smooth move at night and the salt water flush in the mornings? And lastly, would it be any benefit to me at this point to continue to use the cayenne pepper? It is very hot for me, but I've managed to get it down somehow, and if you think there is still an advantage on this way gentler cleansing method, I'll continue to get it down somehow.

Lin,
Sorry about that!
We've certainly had people who have fallen off the MC at 4 or 5 days, dived into junk food, and felt awful. So you do need to be a little careful, but probably not as much and probably not for 3-4 days.
I like your idea of fresh fruit and veggies, and perhaps that would be a good trainsition food for you. Maybe at least a day or two with just that--no nuts, no grains, no meat, no dairy.
And then you might want to start a raw food diet for a gentle detox instead of the MC.
Whatever you choose, good luck!

Hi! I'm new to this wonderful site and had a few questions/concerns. I, after much research, decided to begin a MC yesterday when I woke up. My first problem was with the salt water. I drank the recommended amount and proceeded to throw it all up. I didn't try it again. Then, after every glass of the magic lemonade I drank (roughly 5 glasses between 9 am and 8 pm), I vomited. I also had a horrible headache for the majority of the day (could be caffeine withdrawl) and felt seriously nauseous. I understand that this may very well have been the toxins or what not, but too much is too much. And throwing up six times in a single day was too much for me. That being said, I made the decision to stop the cleanse and seek answers. I desperately want to do this and feel as if I could commit to it, but not if it poses that kind of health risk. Can anyone give me a heads up as to what may have caused my sickness? And any pointers on what may relieve it next time? Thanks fellow cleansers!

Hi shughes,
I am by no means an expert; in fact, I tried the mc once before and felt like my brain was going to burn up, literally (go back in this thread one page). I know that I am full of toxins, due to an accident that left me paralyzed and taking 27 pills a day for a year, three of them steroids. I am walking again, and now I have to clean myself out and the one and only day I tried (previous to today) was like dying. So I stopped. And read, and read and read. Today I started up again, and here's what I did in preparation. In the two week wait (btw each cleanse this is recommended) I took daily baths in epsom salts to rid toxins thru my skin. Bec my stomach was in such horrible shape after I quit before I couldn't keep food down so I drank water for three days, with very light nibbling of carrots, or whatever my mind said I needed, but only nibbled, and kept it raw food, and very little. No caffiene. No sugar. Very little bread (I fess up, I love bakery things). And LOTS of water. Those videos on mytube don't say anything about water, but drinks lots of it before. Today was my first attempt again, and I did not use the senna tea the night before, but drank the salt water this morning very slowly. I found the Celtic Gray Mist salt doesn't taste too bad. I didn't shudder at all. Keep shaking the jug so you don't get baraged by the salt at the bottom. When I made my lemonade I poured an extra two cups of water in the mixture to semi-dilute it so my body wouldn't be overwhelmed so much. I did fine today. Tonight I drank the senna tea, which I made very weak, and my head is spinning, so I am going to assume that my body does not do well with the senna tea. And my mouth is like cotton. I will research phyllum (?) and see if that is a good substitute.
I know this was lengthy, and if anyone disagrees with my methods, I am open to listening. Good luck shughes, we'll pull thru this together.

I'm on Day 3 and my biggest concern is that my tongue is white. It turned white on Day 1. Doesn't seem to be getting worse, but should I try acidophilus or something ?- If I don't, I am fearful of a yeast infection or other bacterial infection.

Hi britin2,
Check out this thread http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9 and scroll down to tongue coating. There is a lot of information there. My tongue has been three different colors, and I am only at day 12. I found with myself, I had to brush my tongue gently, or it would bleed a bit. I immed rinsed with salt water so it wouldn't worsen (just precautionary) but I think you'll find the section tongue coating to be an interesting read>

I am on day 7 and doing fine. I am pretty sure I will make it to day 10 or beyond, but today I have a specific concern. I am dizzy upon standing and that tells me my adrenal gland is stressed out. I have had this in the past and worked through it with a nutritionist using Auyrvedic Medicine. It could be because I stayed up late last night watching a movie, then had a difficult time sleeping. My Smooth Move decided to work at 5 a.m., then I tossed and turned for quite a while before falling asleep again. I think the movie was too intense for me:)
Still, wondering if I should stop the cleanse, or just ride it out and be sure to get enough sleep tonight?
I would appreciate any insight regarding the adrenal function.

I tried the MC a couple of years ago. I made it to day 2 before I gave up. Sad I know. I had such a difficult time with the lemonade drink. I was really just so awful that I couldn't take it anymore. Any advice on how the stomach this juice? I really want to do this. Thanks!

Does this 1 oz. fluid per two pounds of body weight take into account people who are obese? This would mean 144 oz. of fluid per day for me.

This is off the current subject but I have a couple of questions & cannot figure out & am not sure how to ask them other than this. I am considering starting the cleanse (still in the research phase), has anyone tried Redmond Real Salt Sea Salt & I am using a unit that purifies & ionizes my drinking water has anyone had experience with this?

My husband is doing it, day 5 today and is really having a difficult time. He has 2 very long weekend work days and since it's only day 5, he's not feeling or seeing any results. He doesn't want to quit but he's very hungry - not cravings - he's hungry. He'll have anything right now. How can I get him thru this?
Ask him , Are you hungry or do you just want to eat?
That's what works for me...
I want to eat but never hungry..... another thing that helps me through is, I tell myself when I get off this MC I can eat whatever I want (of course gradually, not the first day off the MC) as a reward for completion of the MC.
If that doesn't work, then a couple of his buddies to rant and rave at him " Wimp!
;-) But then his buddies probably never tried the MC either....;)

Hi!
This is my first time on the Master Cleanse. I am twenty and have been on a lot of psych medications since I was about 15. Today is my third day. Yesterday, I was shaking and tired and weak. I couldn't get out of bed (except to use the bathroom, of course). Today I feel a little better, but I still have the headache. I only planned on doing this cleanse for eight days because I have plans after that which require that I don't need to poop every five minutes. I don't think I did enough research beforehand, because, as I'm searching the forums, I see a lot of people saying they didn't stop when planned because they still had detox symtoms. I obviously don't know when mine will go away, but I cannot proceed past eight days, detox symptoms or not. Will this have a bad effect on my body? Should I stop now, before things get worse, and give myself time to get back to normal and try again when I have more time?
Thank you!!!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. Have you read the book by Mr.Glickman? I would suggest you read that as it will give you a lot more information to help you. Usually the first 3 days are the roughest, then it kind of gets easier for most people, then around day 7 is another rough detox day generally....so I would hang in there. You may feel better tomorrow. You are almost over the worst part! You are doing good! :)

I'm at the end of my seventh day and feeling really good. I even took a one hour brisk walk today. I plan to go 10-14 days depending on howI feel. My concern is that the taste buds at the back of my tongue are enormous! They're so huge I can feel them touching my soft pallette. Is this a normal detox condition? I rather hate it because it feels like I have something stuck back there that I can neither cough up nor swallow. This happened to me when I did a vegetable and fruit juice cleanse for a month and it never resolved until I got back on food again. Does anyone know anything about this weird symptom?

Today is my first day too. I did the SWF last night and drank the team. I also did both this morning too and nothing has happened. I just finished my first glass of lemonade and I don't know how you all do this. Please tell me it gets easier as I can't imagine wanting to go get another cup. I'm thinking about coffee and wonder how long it's been since I ever made it this late in the day without it which I guess is exactly why I should do this. I started the cleanse because i felt bloated, gassy and tired but had hoped for something to eliminate by now. Is it okay to take a laxative tablet or just wait? What about chewing gun - is that a no no?

I'm nearing the end of my second Master Cleanse and I've had to take it easier this time around.
The reason I'm a little concerned today is because my last menstrual cycle began on Jan. 13th and yesterday it began again. This is very abnormal for me as I have one that tends to be spaced 6-8 weeks apart. It's not merely spotting (I experienced that on my first)... it's really rather heavy. I'm not feeling bad- in fact I feel good, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this so I won't feel like I'm alone.
The book touched on this but the section was rather small and didn't address heavy early-starting cycles.
Can anyone relate? Thanks for any response and I apologize if this is in the wrong place. This is my first time posting.

:) well today is my 1st day, to tell you truth i feel fine, the swf tasted like sea water, i thought it was so funny. The only problem i had last night was with the tea, i guess i should have not taken it so later cause i keep getting up to go and pee. It kinda mess with my sleep but other than that not bad, i hope the rest of the cleanse is easy as today. The only thing i do miss is working out hard but i know when i am done with this cleanse i am going to be able to put better food into my body to help me work out. Well unitl tommorow.

SOCCERMOM~ I JUST HAVE A SECOND BUT YOU DO NOT DO THE SWF AND THE TEA TOGETHER AND NOT THE SWF AT NIGHT. YOU DRINK THE TEA (ONLY) AT NIGHT.....IN THE MORNING YOU DRINK ONLY THE SWF FIRST THING ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.....THE ONLY WAY YOU WOULD SWITCH IS IF YOU DID TEA AT NIGHT AND SKIP THE SWF IN THE MORNING AND DO TEA INSTEAD OF THE SWF IN THE MORNING.....YOU NEVER DO SWF AT NIGHT. ALSO, NO LAX TABLET...SOMETIMES IT JUST TAKES AWHILE TO GET "GOING" FOR SOME PEOPLE. AND NO CHEWING GUM OR BREATH MINTS. HOPE THAT HELPS! GOTTA GO!

Soccermom--i am on day 10 of my MC, going to go 20, maybe longer, but, i did the SWF morning, and tea at nite, i didnt have any eliminations at all until day 5, i stopped doing the SWF, and just did tea in morning and nite, i started using two teabags of the smooth move per cup of tea, and that seems to be what got it going.
Reason i stopped doing hte SWF was because i never eliminated anything, not even pee, after i did it, and i upped the salt even. So i figured better to not do it all, then have all that salt in my system. but i do have the tea at nite and in the am.
I think this is as much a learning process the first, 2nd time around, so go easy on yourself. No two bodies are exactly the same, so what works for one does not mean it will work for the masses.
i thinkif you stay true to the foundation of the cleanse but modify it to how it works for you its all good.
And there are lots of pple here to give you advice on what works for them, that you can maybe try.
It does get easier, but remember Easy does it, and take it one day at atime, all you have to worry about is today, just get through today. If you focus on the full ten its way tooo duanting...
Sendin a squeeze your way!

Ive just completed day 1 & my head & neck are killing me. Warm bath helped. Is it ok to take ibuprofen or should i just tough it out? Not only is my head killing me but my neck is stiff & there is such a tightness in my jaw. I have done this cleanse before but not in the winter. Could this be my problem, because my diet has only been better since i 1st started doing juice fast back when i was 30. Or am i just old :p

I'm not sure if I should be asking in this particular thread, but as a Newbie (dun dun dunnnn) I can't make my own. :(
Anyhow, I'm a Yoga and Pilates instructor with 4-5 classes per week. I've done the cleanse before, but am wondering if it will have negative effects on my energy, will make me light-headed, etc. if I do the cleanse on top of doing so much physical exercise. If so, does anybody have any suggestions as far as modified cleanses go so I can still get the benefits of the cleanse again without putting myself at risk?
Any suggestions are appreciated!:D

I would appreciate a response from one of the seniors or Peter if he's available.:)
This is my 4th cleanse in 4 years. I'm on Day 6 and my hip joints and my low back ache constantly.:(
Last night was the first physically uncomfortable night I've ever had on the MC. Kept waking up because hips ached, turned over, that hip ached, layed on front or back and the low back ached.
I've done SWF every morning, Smooth Move every night, usually 6 lemonades/day but yesterday only three. :) I felt good yesterday and content drinking just water. :) Today I did SWF upon rising but didn't have a lemonade until Noon. I don't feel well: very tired, not hungry, first lemonade difficult to keep down and no elimination from morning SWF.:( Only had SWF elimination on Day 5. Lots of pee as long as I'm drinking additional water, 1 gallon/day. Lost 14 lbs so far so somethings happening besides lowering the metabolism.::confused:
I'm concerned since this MC is going differently than what I've experienced in the past. Although I love veggies and fish, I have spent the last year often eating SAD which is why, in part, I chose to begin the cleanse.:o
Other foods sound great! Lunch is made for us daily at work consisting of entree meet, veggie and rice/potato, soup and veggie salad with multiple chopped veggies. The meals sound great when I review the menu but not enough to stop the healing process.:)
The question is: am I healing or non-healing due to the joints aching?

well wouldn't you know!?? I keep writing that I reread the book often. I found the answer to my own question just by doing that!
Yes, my joints and leg muscles felt HORRIBLE yesterday and last night! Rather than eat food to stop cleansing, desperate as I was for pain relief eating sounded worth considering, I drank water totalling 3/4 gallon of distilled. Within a few minutes, I had a BM! It was watery, brown and some solid but it was the most beautiful sight I'd ever seen!:)
Immediately after elimination, all my lower body joint and muscle pain disappeared...instantly! I was so grateful! I went to bed. Within the hour, the pain returned but much lessened. I drank more water and the pain lessened enough to be able to sleep comfortably. I woke up two hours later needing to pee but I wasn't in pain so peeing was NOOOOOOO inconvenience!
The morning after, Day 7, I peed alot and then did the SWF. Feel good and ready to go to work. No BM yet but I'm hopeful, it's only been 10 minutes since the SWF.
I learned alot: drink at least 6 glasses of lemonade! Drink lots of extra water! Do the evening tea! Do the SWF correctly in the AM!----When I alter from this course, the physical pain of having toxins floating around but not eliminated is unbearable! I'll never drink less than 6 glasses a day! even if I 'don't want to' drink another lemonade I will do it even if that means more than 1 hour between drinks but I'll still do it!
Best of luck to all!

Follow the MC to the T and you will most likely feel the best ever: great energy, positive and happy! Don't modify the cleanse other than choosing how many lemonades you'll drink during the day: 6-12.
AND drink plenty of additional water! When I drink an additional gallon a day, toxins have the vehicle to leave the body.
If you want to read what happened to me when I didn't follow the program, read my other posts in this thread. When I followed the program EXACTLY I had no problems. When I veared from the program, MAJOR physical pain as toxins were not eliminated just floating around.

Just started MC today. SWF works fast. So the "butt-pee" is normal? I love the taste of the lemon and spice Have to pick up more cayenne today. Gonna try the Grey ___ Sea Salt too.

So, its okay to eat fresh fruits, veges, nuts and seeds throughout the day and do 6 lemonade drinks? Just how much veges, fruits, nuts or seeds are we allowed per day when doing this cleanse? How long should we do the cleanse for in order to be effective if we're taking the 'easier' route? I get hungry very often and get sleepy from the starvation. I am hungry every 5 mins when drinking only the lemonade on the regular routine! Need more direction with the easy route pls.

I am about to start my day 6 and have had a CONSTANT runny nose for the past three days. It's to the point my nose kills when I touch it b/c it's so raw. Is this normal, am I not eliminating wastes as I should? Any recommendations? Thanks

I have successfully completed a 10day cleanse and feel fantastic...to answer question regarding runny nose...I had a constant runny nose too! One of my main reasons for doing the cleanse was for health reasons...I have had major allergies for the past 7 years...Anything flying in the air, I'm pretty much allergic too. Typically, everyday or every other day I was taking some kind of medication for my allergies...I would get sinus headaches constantly...So, long story short a friend of my husbands and I introduced us to the Master Cleanse and after doing some extensive research I decided to take the plunge! and guess what? I took the 10 day cleanse and since my 1st day on the cleanse, I have not had to take any allergy medication to date. Officially, it has been 21 days and no allergy medication needed...So, to get back to your question regarding the runny nose...I had a runny nose for about 5 out of the 10 days of being on the cleanse. My nose was raw too! I'm figuring it was because my sinus's needed to drain all that crap that had been just festering in my body for so long, which was contributing to my constant sinus headaches and sinus pressure. I am not a doctor by no means, but I have to say that I have become a firm believer in the Master Cleanse and plan to do another cleanse in the Fall...Good luck! :D

I think i'm going to stick it out for 20 days now... maybe 30? it's my first cleanse, and i prob won't have another chance to do this again for 18 months, so why not! :-D

After massive headaches and additional research, I realize that I have A LOT of toxins in my body. :( The good news is, I know. The bad news is, I don't think that I was smart in jumping right in to this cleanse. I ate a lot of fast food (convenient) and I was a smoker up until 3 days ago when I started this cleanse. I've decided to be a little gentler at first. Taking it easy and letting some of these toxins work their way out in a gentler way. I am drinking about 40-50 oz of the lemonade each day and eating some healthy raw stuff in the afternoon. I'm saltwater flushing and drinking the tea, but it seems the little bit of raw is keeping the headaches away. I think I will do this for about a week and then try and do the cleanse as it was designed. I am still having detox symptoms. Still pooing a lot and today have developed joint aches. (though only on the right side of my body?) I wish I didn't have work or college, cause I would just get this over with, but in order to function, I have to take it easy.
I have not wanted a cigarette at all. The only real "cravings" I've had are for fruit and veggies, but hunger hasn't been an issue. I feel good mentally, knowing that I'm making a difference that will last a lifetime. Cara

PLEASE help! I am on day 7 and I am so proud of myself for making it this far.... I do NOT want to stop. However, I am developing a horrible yeast infection. I have had these infections off and on my whole life, but I haven't had one in quite a while. I know my body needs to be in just the right balance or I get one. So I'm not entirely surprised Igot this. The syrup has a lot of sugar plus I am stripping my body of the "good bacteria" that helps fight off the yeast overgrowth.
But what can I do? It is so uncomfortable. I'm afraid to take the usual medicine because I will just flush it all out in the next 4 days. I know from experience that if I don't treat it, it wlil get much worse. I mean- I get to the point where I can barely walk. I need help ASAP. Please offer any suggestions you may have.
Thank you!

Hi plumeria,
I used to get yeast infections a lot when I was younger, but I haven't had any since doing cleanses so I don't have first-hand experience here. And I don't know what they are doing nowadays for them.
I doubt that the cleanse (either the sugars or the flushing of good bacteria) is actually the culprit here. It's very possible that your body is "echoing" past infections on its way to having its last one. :) If so, it might not turn out the way you fear. But I have a couple of suggestions.
First, you might try a vinegar douche. That may help with symptoms and shouldn't interfere with the cleanse.
Also, I seem to remember inserting some remedies vaginally. If that's the kind of medication you use, I would imagine that would be okay, too.
If you take oral prescription medications for it and want to stay on the cleanse, then just be careful to take the meds after your SWF has finished in the morning.
Sorry you're hurting--I remember how bad that can be! Hope you're able to get through it and stay on your cleanse. If not, there's always another time. :)

If it is inadvisable to do weight lifting due to the no-protein state of the diet, what does that mean for your heart - which is a muscle too?
I wanted to do a lot of aerobics and get my exercise routine kicked off while I'm on the diet, but I'm afraid it will weaken my heart muscle.
Can someone who is a medical professional speak to this question? BTW - i am healthy and have no medical problems at all, just about 30 pounds overweight.

dianthoma: Cardiac (heart) and smooth muscle (stomach, uterus, etc) are different from skeletal muscle (hamstrings, biceps, etc). I believe it has to do with the striations of skeletal muscle that causes it to grow according to weight-bearing exercise and protein consumption. You should have no problem exercising while on MC, just listen to your body. I just finished a 20-day MC and only skipped my Tae Bo workout 3 days. There were some other days when I could tell my energy was a little low and I wasn't into it as much as usual, but it was do-able. HTH!

:rolleyes:I posted earlier about having such trouble sticking with the MC and starting and stopping often...Could the difference simply be that I am drinking too much of the lemonade? I usually try to force down all 12 servings as fast as I can. Could that be part of the problem? I am having horrifc migraines, body aches, heartburn, cravings, and just general frustration. Any suggestions would be helpful at this point. Thanks!

I have made it to Day 7 but have not been able to get the lemonade down today. I have a very painful mouth. The roof of my mouth has developed some cankor sores right behind my front teeth and my teeth themselves ache so bad. The gums all around are very sore and I have several cankor sores on my tongue. The pain was unbearable today and I just couldn't drink anymore lemonade and cayenne. I have felt great and was really determined to make it, but I had to get some calories in me tonight after not drinking much today so I made a very bland vegetable broth soup with a few fresh veggies and ate that. Do you think I should try again tomorrow if my mouth feels better or have I lost all the benefits?

Rabbit,
What I do is to swish my mouth with water after "every" swig of lemonade. AND I always use a straw with the lemonade after going through what you're going through. Never happens any longer. Give it a shot.
How are you doing now? Still cleansing?

Hi Peter, Love your work! I'm on Day 7 and haven't lost much weight. On day 2 I lost 5lbs, but had been preparing before I started cleanse. I'm doing some exercise...I live in Marin County, Ca and it's been raining daily for about 3 days! so no power walks! How much exercise do you recommend and what kind? I am 40lbs overweight from drinking too much and food. Quit drinking and that's why I'm surprised the weight isn't coming off faster. ALSO, I can't sleep at night! sometimes it takes until 330am to get to sleep. any thoughts/suggestions? Thank you, Patrice ps, i have been doing tea and swf in morning, but started swf on day 4.
