Can I add maple syrup to the fresh sqeezed OJ? Freshly sqeezed OJ can be bitter sometimes.

Hello bornearth,
I don't really see any 'harm' in adding a bit of maple syrup to the oj if needed. But I am curious - what kind of oranges do you use? I have never had bitter or even sour tasting fresh-squeezed oj.

I am on DAY1 of my post Cleanse.
I made the mistake of juicing my oranges to make a litre of OJ for today.
Not only was it very bitter (even after adding maple syrup), I have now found out that the skin of oranges (and grapefruits) is toxic and should not be juiced.
So, be warned!

HI guys,
Thanks for the input. I will be sure to remember not to juice the orange peel.
I have noticed however, that I get some bitter oranges at times. I like naval oranges the most but I eat all kinds. Maybe if I didnt live in the midwest I'd get better selections. Laydi, what kind do you use?

Hi bonearth - I have found that Valencia oranges give a good amount of juice. On my last cleanse (Jan.) I couldn't find them so I used Navels, which didn't give as much juice. I have also used generic 'juice' oranges in the past as well and I didn't notice any bitterness. (BTW I live in NJ, but was born and raised in Chicago). I also use a citrus juicer - I would never juice a whole lemon/lime or orange in my regular juicer.

oh my goodness, I hadn't noticed I need to do freshly squeezed oranges for the coming off days, thanks for posting this! :D I was planning on just buying OJ, but that makes sense, it probably has lots of sugars in it, etc. I still have 6 days to go, but I will need to get things ready for it pretty soon, thanks again :D
