I radio show I was listening to had on a Nutritionalist as
a guest. Someone called and asked him what he thought of
the MC and he said that he would use RAW Honey instead
of Maple Syrup.

Has anyone ever heard of or tried this?
Any idea of benifits or drawbacks?

Would you care to give a more thought-out answer? Perhaps you could explain WHY you think he's an idiot and what's wrong with raw honey instead?

for one thing, that guy has certainly not read Stanley Burroughs' book. in it he not only says that you should be using maple syrup, but specifically says not to use honey, and denounces it and any supposed qualities it has, both for the master cleanse and in a regular diet.

from the book:
WHAT ABOUT THE USE OF HONEY?

Honey must not be used at any time internally. It is manufactured from the nectar picked up from the flowers by the bees—good enough in itself, perhaps—then predigested, vomited and stored for their own future use with a preservative added. It is deficient in calcium and has many detrimental effects for the human being.

According to one authority, honey is "a magical and mystical word in Healthfoodland. It is one of the most overpromoted, overpriced product being sold to gullible health foodists. The great value attributed to honey is delusive…honey is only a little less empty and more dangerous than sugar."

Just as with alcohol, honey, being predigested, enters the blood directly, raising the sugar content very rapidly above normal. To correct this, the pancreas must produce insulin immediately or possible death can occur. More insulin than necessary is likely to be produced, and the blood sugar level then drops below normal. This can produce blackout spells and even death if it goes to low. When blood sugar is below normal, a person will feel depressed. The regular use of honey can create constant imbalances wich in turn will adversely affect the normal function of the liver, pancreas and spleen. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are the results of the use of unbalanced sugars. The balanced sugar in maple syrup and sugar can juice causes no dangerous side effects. Artificial, synthetic, and refined sugars have no place in a natural diet.

so in my opinion, it would definitely not be okay to use honey. you can read the entire book online, here: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/7244/master_cleanse.html

I agree with Itsmylife 100%

Thats all that needs to be said !!

But here's my extra input. This is probably someone just trying to spoil the MC for others.
Especially since its someone who is in a position that would know better.

It sounds similar to the "pros" that promote taking P&B shakes during the MC. Thats totally to make sure that people don't get the real benefits of this cleanse. (and they don't, and don't even know it)

Its called suppressive - designed to prevent others from doing better in life.

I'll stop here - enough said!

I read the MC book years ago, somehow I had forgot
about that whole honey buisness.
It's crazy how some people can praise the power of
honey and others can call it poison.

On another note..... I plan on starting the MC next
week after i get my box of lemons, should i continue
using the medicinal salve on my skin that im using
to treat an infection?

Jerry Macinnon - You missesd the point - Its not about the power of honey or whether its poison or not.
Its about the appropriateness of using it on the Master Cleanse.

Honey is not an ingredient of The Master Cleanse. If people want to do other cleanses, or make up their own, fine. Just don't call it The Master Cleanse which has a very specific formula.

I have been fasting and cleansing for over thirty five years starting with Ann Wigmore when she had the Hippocrates Health Institute on Exeter St. in Boston. Other than using honey (very seldom) for fun, I have used it as medicine. It is here for a good reason. In a correctly prepared formula, honey can be very helpful in assisting the breaking up of mucus. For this purpose, I have only used it in emergencies for very short periods of time. It usually doesn't take long to produce beneficial results.

I think that honey is probably fine. My only concern would be the the shear thickness of it. It may have to blended in order to get it to dissolve as well. Stanley Burroughs says nothing about the honey being raw or not so for all we know he could be talking about heated honey. In that case the honey would definitely not be good for you because honey that is heated over 118 degrees Fahrenheit is no longer raw honey and it would be lacking enzymes that are helpful in digesting the honey. Therefore you would get that sugar rush and drop causing the imbalances he is talking about. But I really do question maple syrup. After all, Maple Syrup is boiled and processed that way much like heated honey. I just had my first lemon drink right now and I felt a bit of a sugar rush that I do not get from raw honey. So I am thinking about substituting the maple syrup with the raw honey. Lets not forget this book was written in 1950 and Stanley Burroughs seems to be a very strict vegetarian and that seems to include bees and honey. In my case I have read the Primal Diet by Aajonas Vonderplanitz and have learned quite a bit about raw honey and health. So there. I think that was a bit more helpful than most of the other posts. No offense. I'm glad to have cleared some things up. Let me know if anyone finds any information on Maple Syrup. I would like to know. Thanks.

OBAMA!!! Wooooo!!!! WOOO!!!
