Would love to address a full master cleanse program for people who are 100 lbs. or more overweight and want to REALLY cleanse, lose the toxins, and get to an ideal weight, maintain it and achieve a healthy body, mind and spirit.

When you are 100 lbs. or more overweight, none of the above is healthy.

How can this be done and be safe? MC for 40-60 days then go raw foods, and mentally, deal with all the "food" issues one would have in the process and cleanse those to?

I am planning to accomplish this but feel a bit overwelmed and would love to here from others.

I did a 30 day MC and felt great 6 months ago. All 30 lbs. I lost is back and my eating habits are pretty much back to the old ways...so I am going on the MC cleanse again but want a LONG TERM LIFE CHANGING experience.

Would love to here from anyone with ideas, pointers and or support to make this a SUCCESS.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Hi Teri!

Welcome aboard!

I am doing my first MC right now and plan on 30 days, like you did! I am on Day 25 today. I say "planing on" because I have a really difficult time wanting to quit everyday. It has been said that only about 1 in 4 people experience real hunger for the entire cleanse, and well, LUCKY ME! I am absolutely starving hungry all the time. Some days I think I really wont be able to go all the way. But so far, no cheats and still going. 30 days is a long time, right? Congratulations on doing that for yourself!

I wish I had the answers you need. I am dealing with some specific health issues and being overweight is adding to the problems. So I can relate to what you say about really wanting to cleanse, lose the toxins and achieve a healthy body, mind and spirit! Permanently!

Someone started a thread for continuing weight loss after the cleanse that might be something you could look into. Many people there looking for permanent changes to lifestyle and diet and such.

I have a dear, sweet friend named Terri who is 100 lbs or more overweight. I thought of her this morning when I saw your post. I am concerned about all that, and although my Doctor has only recommended I lose 50 lbs to avoid diabetes, I can really understand the concerns for people trying to reduce their weight for health reasons. It seems so difficult for me to get anywhere. Every time I've had a bit of success in losing, I gain it all back (plus), in a relatively short time!

There are so many emotional issues connected to how we use our food to feed our needs. I have become very clear on some of these things for myself during this Cleanse. That is a big part of it, and I'm literally praying I can hold on to these new insights post cleanse, and be really present to where I am and what I am doing, how I am feeling, etc., when I am eating from now on. I know this is huge for most of us. It is the one thing that might really make a difference for me. I am a classic over-eater! I was eating HUGE portions and OFTEN, before the cleanse. I am feeling confident that I won't be doing that again now, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I'm really afraid I will revert back to those original patterns. I guess that's not really confident, after all. I'm trying so hard though! I really want to make a lasting, permanent change to my eating habits.

I wish I knew what to tell you. I wish there was some amazing words of wisdom out there that maybe another Bulletin Board member could send your way.

I have just read an AMAZING book by Dr. Elson Haas, MD called The False Fat Diet. It explains some very interesting ideas that we are not nearly as overweight as we think we are! That alot of the inches or girth or our bodies, is a direct result of our being incredibly sensitive to some of the foods we eat. Different foods depending on the individual. Like our body reacts to certain things as if we have been poisoned. Surrounding tissues with tons of water to try and neutralize something it sees as a threat to our very survival. He says the bloating and swelling caused by this can be eliminated in a week to 10 days for most people if they just reduce those few things out of their diet all together! And another one similar in theory, The Eat 4 Your Type book(s). Same type of thing, only this time, the Dr. (author) gives you your list of things to eliminate out of your diet according to your blood type.
They say once you get the initial water and bloating off, the real fat will follow. The best part is, the water and bloat are so uncomfortable to carry, that once it is gone, you feel so much better, you become really motivated to continue the new list of "can have" foods and leave the others out for good. The "false fat" is gone and doesn't return because you are no longer consuming your reactive foods, and the real fat melts away over time as well. Sounds wonderful! Have you read either one of these books? Interesting, if nothing else.

You mentioned raw foods. I have looked into the raw food thing just a bit lately. I find it fascinating people have so much time to spend preparing all that beautiful food every day! Some of the cookbooks are AWESOME! I would probably just end up eating a lot of raw fruits and vegis in their whole, un-adulterated form with a number of salads thrown in, if I were to attempt an all raw diet, because I don't have time before or after work to do all that fancy un-cooking! I'd certainly eat it if someone else was home all day working on it though. It looks delicious and sounds like a great way of eating.

Well, check on that other thread I told you about, if you haven't already seen it. Good Luck to you in your journey into this next phase of your life. Sorry about this long post. I got a little long winded here, huh?

Good morning ladies....

I too have struggled all my life with being overweight. Although what the Dr. tells me and what feels good on me are quite separate things.

I started out doing weight watchers and that was quite fruitful. I think because of that program I learned much about cooking and basically was able to maintain pretty well until I went through menopause.

Well now with finding this MC program it has been a GRADUAL change in my life style. I am taking it in stages. Trying to eat mostly raw and doing the cleanse every 3 months or so to keep on the right track.

I think I am doing okay and I can tell that I do eat healthier. I did not and am not trying to do it ALL AT ONE TIME. That would be overwhelming. I just chang little things. Like taking the time when I am hungry to prepare my food and enjoy doing it. Even if I feel I don't have the time, I still do it because I AM WORTH IT.

A total mind set change and realization that I need to take care of me. Not in a selfish means at all, just a fact.

I also have incorporated the probiotics that Peter recomends and they curb my cravings for BAD foods like salty and sweet things....

So take it one step at a time, change little things and gradually you will remake the way you think and things will become automatic....

When I started this journey I tipped the scales at 277 lbs. I am now at 168 and am maintaining within a couple of pounds. I feel best at 150, not that far away, but a lifetime to someone that loves food. So I now Eat to Live and don't live to eat. It helps to retrain your way of thinking about food.

I also remember the cleanses that I have done and how I felt, what I expelled and the changes my body went through. I think twice about putting things into my mouth that may stay in my system for years and make me so ill that I could die before my time.

I have seven wounderful children and seven beautiful grand sons, so there is much to live for and I plan on being her for quite a long time...

You ladies have a good day and a wonderful weekend...

Stay strong and start small... work from there, every little thing adds up.....

Thank you so much. Both posts were very helpful and I think this community is an important part of the mental cleansing that helps the cleanse.

Yes, food has been a subsitute to love for me, a comfort and an escape and seeing the way the cleanse makes me feel and how healthy it is, is a great way to love ourselves.

Thanks!!!!!

Excellent post, fancy1.

I am on Day 5 of my first MC. It has not been too bad...so far. I have not felt hungry too many times, but more cravings for food. Why are there so many food ads on TV? :)

Due to many years of idleness and excess, I have gone from a 170lbs athlete (who represented his University at Rugby and Athletics) to a 320lbs mouse potato. Actually, it could be more than 320lb (but I hope not), as my scales only go up to 308lb.

I weighed myself last night, and I was exactly 308lbs. This had reduced to 304lbs this morning, so I am going in the right direction. All this has been done without any serious eliminations (aka diarrhoea) - which is my main concern with the Cleanse so far. I have been taking a laxative tea at night and the full SWF first thing in the morning. However, I did not take a tea last night and I have not done a SWF this morning, as Stanley Burroughs says at Page 27 of his book to stop these if diarrhoea occurs.

I am very glad I found this Board before I started my Cleanse (I have been lurking here awhile) - it has been most helpful, and inspirational.

May the Force be with You All.

for me too Teri! fantastic that you've ALREADY DONE a 30 day MC! wow! that's still just a gleam in my eye- a hope and a dream!

glad to see you've been getting some great feedback here- and also that you're sharing your thoughts & feelings! i've also had some of the same concerns, having had major struggles with my weight ever since i was a wee one when my mom overfed me to compensate for a pediatrician's stern criticism that she had severely underfed me! then i got fat in response to early hospitalizations for eye surgeries between the ages of 3 and 6. among my nicknames growing up: Sofa! there are so many reasons why we become overweight-- and in our world-- it isn't difficult. i also learned a bunch of ways to compensate-- among them- I became vegetarian, I exercised, I ran long distances... (and some less healthy-- I won't go into now..)

Despite the fact that I managed to live major portions of my life--outside of the whole overweight syndrome-- I unfortunately caved back in-- during times of emotional stress. One of those times-- after not being continued at my "dream" job (teaching at Vassar) I was so devastated, I gained weight and was over 200 lbs. I was almost completely oblivious to this weight gain, but along with it came medical complications-- which-- due to their severity I was almost forced to undergo a perhaps debilitatingly painful medical procedure. (More on that if anyone really wants to know :) ) It was only at that point, that this "wake-up call" got me to consider "alternative approaches" at which point I joined a Gary Null detox support group. http://www.garynull.com They weighed us officially-- and the guy who did so looked at me sadly and said: "I'm sorry to tell you this-- but you're technically obese!" Even that, believe it or not-- didn't get through to me-- in some ways- a blessing I was so thankfully oblivious! But following the program I got my weight down to 160 lbs, without ever even restricting calories, just staying within the parameters (No fried foods, "processed foods", animal fat, soda, sugar, meat, white flour, coffee...plenty of green juices...supplements.)

I got my weight even further down-- continuing with the protocol, and exercising-- but then-- life took it's toll on me again. It would be long to tell you the whole roller-coaster of it-- but suffice it to say I've been a "yo-yo" which they say is NOT A GOOD THING- because each iteration-- you lose lean muscle mass, and gain fat! UGH.

My latest weight gain-- I had been around 140, and I gained 30 lbs from heartbreak (as well as knee surgery)-- which is why I so relate to what you're saying.

It was because of this last weight gain in the last 1-2 years (as well as some med issues having to do w allergies due to a backed up boiler-- and continual ill health) that I decided in my impatience-- to read about Juice fasting. I suddenly wanted to lose weight in a hurry-- and I wanted to go beyond the 30 lbs I had gained-- another 20-30! I succeeded in losing 10 lbs juice fasting, when a good friend, who is raw-- (and SKINNY!) told me about the Master Cleanse.

Have to say it sounded NUTS to me at first-- but there was the allure of fast weight loss. I really understand your desire to "get to an ideal weight, maintain it and achieve a healthy body, mind and spirit".

I have found the posts of successful cleansers here-- there are MANY, and being an MCer you already must know them-- to be truly inspiring-- because these people did NOT gain that weight back!

I think there are several components to this-- and you already have the key ingredients:

1. motivation/ determination
2. having a plan for eating as well as exercise
3. include lots of (emotional) support in your life

It really makes a HUGE difference to have the magic of a group of people like this-- behind you. Don't be afraid to share yourself, your fears- your hopes- your dreams! As you know, folks here are the BEST and will support you all the way!

Best of luck--

Exellent Post Soph....

How are you doing today Teri???

We are all here to help

FastBoySlow... thanks for your compliment...
I too researched for a long time before beginning the MC. I also prepared myself for it and planned my start date. I think it helps a whole bunch to be in the right frame of mind when you start this. I also think it helps to not just focus on the weight, that comes on it's own... but to start to hear your body and know it is becoming healthier each day..

Every one, have a good week...
Keep up the good work...
This board ROCKS.... :o

Day 7.

Lost another 4lbs since Saturday.

Back on the laxative tea and SWF today.

A lot of people say Day 7 is a bad day, but it's been relatively OK for me so far. I found Day 6 to be worse. Not so much for hunger pangs, more for food cravings.

Also, just found out that I had mis-calculated my food resumption. :(

I thought it was going to be Sunday, but it's Monday. :(

Thanks for your support, fancy1.

Like others, I too have been concerned about excessive salt intake - especially with my weight ~ 300lbs.

I started SWF again this morning, after a gap of 3 days.

I was not able to wear some shoes tonight which were fine yesterday. Also, my BP had increased by 16% from Day1 of 174/78 to Day 3 of 202/98 - I have not taken it since. I put this down to my first useage of the equipment, but it could be the fault of the salt.

I think I may substitute a laxative teaa for the SWF tomorrow.

I, too, would like to lose about 100 pounds. I started at 270 this time last year, and through WW and working out lost about 45, t hen gained some back, and anyway I weighed in at 249 when I started this cleanse, today.. so it will be interesting to me to see how much I lose and how quickly, as I feel a lot of this extra weight is due to quickly gained weight around Christmas, and might come off quicker.

I, too, want to know how often one can do this cleanse and for how long? I've heard some people do it several times a year, but could one do a 21 day cleanse or something, then eat for a week or two, then do another cleanse, etc...?

I'm hoping a lot of people come in and talk about how much weight they've lost, cause I'd love to hear about more good numbers. :D

I am on Day 9 of my first MC.

Total weight loss so far is 16lbs, although I have only lost 1lb since Day 7.

This could be due to some extra water retention due to SWF which I re-started on Day 7, after a gap of 2 days.

I shall be stopping the MC tomorrow, Day 10. I am hoping for a total weight loss of ~ 20lbs. Not sure whether the 3 days after finishing the MC will see any more weight reduction or not.

Sharon *there was a lot of discussion on the "2006 What day are you on and how are you doing? " board a bit before you came on board about how many times one could do the cleanse, and how often...partly because quite a few people stopped their cleanse(s) maybe sooner than they wanted, and came back on again. if you read through old posts you'll find that some people have definitely done more than one MC, some as many as 5. I talked to Peter about possibly doing 3 ten day MC's spaced over 3 months--(because I was trying to decide when I started whether to do that, or just go straight through for 30-- which at the time sounded IMPOSSIBLE.) Although he did NOT caution me about doing 30 days in a row (don't know why) he did mention that it wasn't a good idea to do TOO MANY cleanses TOO CLOSE together. he didn't exactly say why, but he said that there was a worry about getting "depleted" of your mineral reserves, and that although he knew of people doing TWO cleanses in close proximately, he said that some people had trouble doing 3. Part of what gets difficult about going ON and then OFF and then ON, is that each time you start and stop the digestion process, it is difficult to go back to a "fat burning" fasting metabolism. that is what makes the first days of the Cleanse so difficult! despite all this-- there was at least ONE PERSON-- (bless her) Ladydee-- who actually undertook THREE cleanses-- "serially"-- ie in very close succession. I haven't kept count of the exact number of days-- but someone else summarized it very well by saying that is was more like 50 some days with a couple of breaks in between! The bottom line seems to be "listen to your body!" when it comes to figuring out what you can or can't do!

On the issue of weight loss: I probably wrote this already somewhere up above and elsewhere-- but I started at 170 --BEFORE the cleanse. I have been over 200 lbs in prior times. And the whole thing seemed quite overwhelming-- especially losing weight at what is considered to be the standard safe rate of weight loss: ie a rate of 1-2 lbs per week! I didn't have the patience to take the better part of a year getting back to a weight at which I could feel good about myself. I also spent a long time TRYING to lose weight using "standard methods" and even though I was exercising like a fiend-- my weight just didn't budge for like 6 months-- which was very discouraging. At some point I hit upon a book I had (for a long time) by Dr. Paavo Airola called "How to Keep Slim, Healthy & Young with Juice Fasting" which had an inspiring story about a middle aged woman (who by the way had symptoms of arthritis). She was 54 years old, and started out at 184 lbs. After a 3 month program she was down to 132 lbs, lost all symptoms of arthritis (after 30 days) and other things like psoriaisis.

I was really inspired to read this-- and embarked on a modified *(on again off again) juice fasting program...feeling *like I couldn't undergo a stricter program without being under supervision-- nor did I fast over more than 4-5 consecutive days, although this spanned time like over a month. *I lost about 10 lbs. It was during this time that my "raw" friend told me about the Master Cleanse... and --having gotten from about 170 down to about 160 on juice fasting (and then gaining back a lb or 2) I have since gotten down to about 145 on the Cleanse, in 30 days. I have not been able to get the maximum of a pound of weight loss a day-- that is possible for some while fasting...

best of luck to all of you-- and particularly to FastBoySlow --congrats on day 10! --woohoo! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/party/party-smiley-047.gifhttp://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/party/party-smiley-048.gif:D

Congratulations, FASTBOYSLOW....
You did it....

Maybe when you do the fast again, don't even do the SWF... just dring the tea... see how that goes...

As you come off the cleanse, try and eat as healthy as you can and eat often... 6 - 8 times a day... in small amounts....Think about what you are eating and why.
Power your body and your mind...

I have done the fast three times and will be starting again soon. Each time I have made little lifestyle changes and I figure small progress is better than no progress.... it all takes time... look how long it took me to eat as badly as I have... so I owe it to myself to take it a step at a time and make it last the rest of my life..

Best of luck to you...

fancy1, unfortunately, you are a bit premature with your praise. Probably the different time zones - I'm in the UK.

My Day 9 does not end for another 8 hours, then there is Day 10 to get through . :(

I think (and hope) that I small make it to the end.

I too was thinking about eating differently - "little & often" - so your suggestion of small portions 6-8 times a day seems like a goode one.

Ahh yes, those time changes can be a bit tricky to figure out...

I know you can make it... you got this far...

Keep me posted on how you do as you come off the cleanse....

Also consider taking the probiotics.... they are amazing...

Yes, probiotics are another thing that has been on my mind.

I have some of those liquid yogurt type ones in the fridge, but they are likely to be too sugary?

I have bought Betonite and Psyllium Husks powders to try some time next week. More torture, no doubt. :)

I think they need flavouring - and pear juice was recommended.

My new blender should arrive soon, so I can start my Nutmilk receipes.

Delivery of spelt pasta, spelt flakes, pinto beans, chick peas, quinoa, nori flakes, black eye beans, butter beans, rye flakes etc arrived this morning. No money left for burger and chips (aka french fries). :)

Hey all,

I just started MC. Day 1. I have slept most of it away. Have been reading all the posts in different groups. I guess I fit more in this group. I need to lose 152 pounds.

I really hope this works and I can keep the weight off. I want to change my life. Right now I don't have the energy to hardly do anything. This is not life.

I need this to work. My husband doesn't want me to lose weight, but I have to.

jimmybees! *you must be on Day 2 too! *as is-- *Dancer148! it WILL end-- but then there is Day 3! :)

but back to jimmybees: wanted to respond to your post--

Congratulations for starting the cleanse! Here's what Peter said to somebody who said: "I'm worried about what this may be doing to my blood pressure; that's a lot of salt water to be injesting."

"To answer your concern, I know of no one who's had a problem with their blood pressure due to the SWF."

also:

"As regards high blood pressure and the salt water, if you've been ordered not to ingest any salt by your licensed health care practitioner, I would follow his orders.

However, if you're just avoiding salt because you've read that salt raises blood pressure, you might be interested to know that I don't know of anyone whose blood pressure has increased with the Master Cleanse, but I am aware of a couple people who specifically mentioned their blood pressure went down as a result of the Master Cleanse and kept their blood pressure low by eating a predominantly raw vegan diet."
---

As long as you do the SWF as prescribed-- ie laxative tea the night before, drink it first thing-- as much as possible "quickly"-- then it usuall "does its magic"--ie flows through your digestive tract without getting absorbed & comes out the "other end"-- ;) *

It is better than a "colonic" in flushing the entire length of the alimentary canal--the perfect culmination of the daily (dissove the gunk in the pipes) *lemonade, & the night-time "agitator" tea...

Since the salt water does NOT get absorbed, it shouldn't affect your BP. The reason this works is that the salt in the SWF should be matched to the saltiness of your blood-- which is why it can "fool" the body into not getting absorbed! Kinda like Odysseus snuck his men out of the blinded Cyclop's Cave, by dressing them in lamb skins! :)
