My wife is interested in trying it, but she is very hypoglycemic. That means she gets very jittery and irritable and *potentially worse* if she eats sugar and no protien or fat to balance out here insulin levels.
any ideas?

I am hypoglycemic and have to be very careful what I eat. So I was really nervous the first time I did the Cleanse. It was amazing. I had almost no problems at all; the only time I had trouble was when I didn't drink the lemonade often enough.
If your wife wants to try the Cleanse, it's probably going to be okay if she makes sure to drink plenty of the lemonade. If she could get her doctor to supervise her, that would be even better, but I know how doctors are. :/
Once I got in the habit of drinking one glass every hour, whether I wanted it or not, I had no trouble with hypoglycemia symptoms.
I also had to adjust the amount of maple syrup --- I used slightly less than 2 tablespoons per drink; more like 1 1/2 tablespoons, and did much better. Which seems counter-intuitive, but the higher amount of syrup made my blood sugar harder to control.
If your wife has, or can get, a blood glucose monitor, that's a great way to keep track of how the drink is affecting her blood sugar levels, and it can help her monitor herself. I used mine once an hour for the first five days of my second cleanse, until I learned exactly what the symptoms of "I need to drink some more lemonade" felt like.
Also, to make mixing the drinks faster and easier, in case she gets "ooky," I recommend that she mix the water and syrup for six to ten drinks in individual bottles each morning; then she has only to add the fresh-squeezed lemon juice and the cayenne to her drink. It makes it a lot faster to prepare.
She may even be like me --- my hypoglycemia was much easier to control after my cleanses than before. I can even indulge in the occasional sugary treat without adverse effects!

I am also hypoglycemic and doing the MC. Day 4 for me today.
I agree completely with Editormum. As long as I drink the lemonade each hour then I am OK. If I get to two hours then I am feeling pretty ill. Only one morning have I awoke to feeling dizzy. Then I drank a lemonade and was fine.
One thing to keep in mind is that your wife can give it a try and then if it doesn't work with her hypo. she can go off of the fast. But, she won't know if it will work unless she tries.
Good luck!

Hello- I have moderate hypoglycemia. I was skeptical about doing the cleanse because of it. Before Thanksgiving, I completed a ten day cleanse. The recommendation is to use black strapp molasses if you have hypoglycemia. After reading about how horrible it tastes, I chose to do the typical diet. I drank 2 32 0z. drinks a day and had absolutely NO problems. In fact, I had more energy and felt great (after day 3). I think the cleanse actually helped my body regulate sugar better than ever before. If you choose to do the syrup, just know that you can either drink more drinks a day, or eat 1/2 tsp. of the syrup if you feel an "attack" of low blood sugar. But my guess is that you body will be just fine if you follow the diet exactly. Good luck- you can do it and you will feel great!!

I'm hypoglycemic and have done the MC 3 x's. I started my fourth today.
I did have some issues on it, but not like I thought. and I too thought it helped regulate it.
BUT here's what I did on the third cleanse that helped me get through the day:
I drank 1 tablespoon of mollassis in a large cup of water in the late afternoon. not only did it make me feel full, it calmed me down.
I noticed I would start feeling wacky in the late afternoon and really hungry.
so I started doing this and it helped.
I also drink one cup of water with liquid chloryphil.
going on walkes and getting fresh air is really important.
drinking your lemonade slowly and consistenly helps.

I have hypoglycemia, if I dont eat I become voraciously hungry, my mood becomes somewhat dark , my vision becomes affected and I end up with a migraine that can last hours.
Has anyone here done the MC with hypoglycemia?
I'd like to do this but dont want to spend days in bed with a major migraine
thanks in advance

Hi,
Yes, I am hypoglycemic, and I am now on day 8 of my first MC. I found that just so long as I am always close to the ingrediants and am able to make a drink as soon as I feel a little low, then I was fine.
I have much less ups and downs than I do when I am eating normally.
Just as with regular eating, just make sure that you start to drink a lemonade as soon as you start to feel hungry or low on blood sugar. Don't wait too long. Also I found that sipping slowly throughout the day was helpful, as opposed to downing a full glass at once.
Hope this helps,
Ariane

P.S.
You may still get some headaches, but that is part of the detox process.
Also, if you are a caffine drinker, I found it helpful to stop drinking coffee five days prior to starting the cleanse, so that I did not have a double dose of detox.
I think that helped with the headaches.
I don't think you will get severe headaches from the hypoglycemia.

I've been lurking for some time and I've done other cleanses. I would like to do the Master Cleanse. However, I am a Hypoglycemic and I have some concerns, mostly about not eating.
Any hypoglycemics been on the MC?
Does anyone have any advice?

hey welcome.
you can do the cleanse if you're hypoglycemic or even diabetic.
have you ready stanley burrough's book? he outlines some advice in there.
i found since doing the cleanse my blood sugar is a lot more stable. it doesn't drop as often or as severely as it used to pre-MC.
while doing the fast i always kept a glass/bottle of lemonade with me at all times so i'd never feel hungry/weak/shaky and i used 1.5 tbs in my first morning drink but after that i did about 1tbs for the rest of the day and that worked well for me.

Tygrbabi, to answer your question. I agree with peanutterb. I would say yes to doing the cleanse with hypoglycemia. It does say in the book if you are diabetic to use molasses instead of maple syrup. BEWARE the molasses is absolutely aweful!!! I know cuz thats what I'm drinking right now. I dont have maple syrup on hand and got the wild hair to start up Sat. night after reading some posts. So, here I am drinking this w/o m.s. and using molasses instead. So now I feel for the people who are on this cleanse and dont like the lemonade. I'm fortunate becuz I love the lemonade made with the syrup!!!Cant wait till Fri.

Thanks for the advice. I already read the book and spoke to my homeopathic doctor but I was still concerned about the "shakes". I'm worthless when I get them. I will start Monday with just a 10 cleanse.

I read something that if you have diabetes or hypoglcemia, that you can add PowerMeal to the regimen. Has anyone heard of this? I am hypoglycemic so I'm feeling constantly weak and a little dizzy even though I'm drinking over 100 oz/day; I don't think I can do this much longer. :(
Thank you, angelle

angelle, do you have burroughs book? have you read the section on diabetics? It does not mention Powermeals, but does give great instructions for this cleanse. Also do a search here on hypoglycemic and the MC, lots of good advise.

Hi y'all,
On the start of Day 5(!) here and had a pretty scary 'episode' this morning. Woke up about 7am but felt terrible so thought I would stay in bed but couldn't get to sleep. Eventually got up, and had difficulty breathing, cold sweats, felt absolutely drained. Was scared that this was pre-empting something bad so looked up on here and google and evidence points to hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar for the non-scientists around here). So I forced myself to do the SWF as had to eliminate those toxins, forcefed myself a spoonful of syrup, and had a glass of peppermint tea with syrup. Was seriously considering quitting...
Then I went for a nap, and now I'm here, (of course) feeling ok, not brilliant but ok.
Anyway, I want to prevent this in the future (as a girl scout I learnt that low blood sugar can happen to people, irrelevant to having diabetes, and it can be dangerous) otherwise I'll want to quit. Other than increasing my MS intake (so far, ~6tbspns a day, and as it's Madal Bal, that's 264 cals which isn't enough so will look to buy more on Monday) a few questions:
1) I exercised aerobically for ~15 mins yesterday, should I stop doing this daily and stick to the yoga instead?
2) I drink a lemonade pretty much before I go to bed (maybe this is why I haven't been sleeping that well:rolleyes: ) yet still wake up feeling horrible (obv the sugar goes down during all those hours sleeping)... Should I increase my MS in that last cup so that it'll last 'longer'?
Or wake up in the middle of the night (say 2 or 3 am) to drink a cup (sounds a bit extreme but I don't have work in the morning so it would be ok)?
3) A bit unrelated to this, according to Peter's post I'm "taking it easy" by drinking no more than 6 glasses a day. I'm also intaking another 60 oz of water a day so no worries about "flushing those toxins". As I've been increasing the cayenne anyway (can stomach loads of that stuff), could I also potentially increase the amount of lemon juice (as the maximum amount is 12 tbspns a day)?
Anyway, this message is rather mammoth so I'll leave it there, good luck to everyone on the cleanse :)

Morning Firsttimecleanser!
I used to have really bad issues with my blood sugar prior to the cleanse but have only had it once since I my first cleanse and have only had it once on a cleanse because I ran out of ms and was at the store and my bf was talking to a guy and my battery was low and my E light came on.
The best thing to do for you, is 1. increase your maple syrup and 2. sip your lemonades consistently throughout the day. this will keep your blood sugar at an even level so their won't be any spikes up or down.
I can't have a lemonade before bed because the ms keeps me up. but if that's what you need to do to keep your sugar stable i'd suggest having a little glass with water and a little ms in it by your bedside to have a sip or two in the night and see how that helps.
Try only doing yoga for a day or two and see if that makes a difference.
Chances are, 6 tablespoons of ms is just not enough for you right now.
Sometimes I wake up feeling shaky in the morning but the swf takes that right away.
Sounds like you're doing everything else right. and if you'd like to increase your lemonade, start off slowing, adding an extra glass a day and see how it makes you feel. more lemon juice means more detoxing so make sure you're ready for it. also increase your water intake to help with additional flushing.
please keep us updated on how you're doing

merged these threads together for anyone with questions on the issue of hypoglycemia.
Summary
is to sip your drinks thruout the day to keep your sugar leveled
or have a drink every hour
Another option is to use raw agave nectar or molasses as burroughs suggests in his book for diabetics.

thanks peanutterb! (and thanks for finding this thread so I could have a little read)
I couldn't fall asleep last night, I started getting mild symptoms around 3am so just got up from bed, made myself a peppermint tea with a tablespoon of MS, and almost instantly I felt better, no longer shakey etc. Watched a movie and fell asleep easily, and slept right through til 11.30 am, and feeling good :)
So I guess I'm going to keep up drinking a mug of tea with MS every evening/whenever I feel ill, and I would recommend anyone else who has the same problems to do the same!
Day 6 and onwards! Thanks again,
~FT

I am hypoglycemic, and just started my second cleanse.
My first cleanse I did absolutely by the book, and I would get the shakes if I went more than two hours without lemonade.
This time, I have decreased the maple syrup to 1 tbsp, and I don't start drinking it until after noon. This is because I have been following the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet (www.carbohydrateaddicts.com) for over ten years, which taught me that if I limit carb intake to once per day, all hypoglycemic symptoms disappear. I am not a breakfast person anyhow, so basically I fast every morning, just drinking coffee and water. Now that I am on the MC I am cutting out the coffee. I am not going so far as to limit lemonade consumption to once a day, at least not yet.
All that said, I like pb's suggestion for keeping a little bit of maple syrup by the bed if you are in fact having hypoglycemic symptoms at night.
I don't see any advantage to using molasses over maple syrup. If you compare the labels you will see that the number of carbs and sugars per tablespoon is identical, and I've never read of any sort of difference in the glycemic index between the two.
The most important thing is to keep the maple syrup handy in case you feel any hypoglycemic symptoms coming on. It's better to take a teaspoon of maple syrup than to get the shakes. Been there, done that.
Keep us posted on how you're doing!

I am worried about my hypoglycemia. When I was pregnant I had to eat every 2 hours... the thinnest amnt of peanut butter on diet bread. I'm 5'6" and normally 125lbs. I had a 12 1/2 pound baby...not diabetic. Next child same thing and would have been 14 lbs...not diabetic. I know what low blood sugar symptoms are. I am doing this cleanse to clean up my act and get my inflammation down.
So up to speed here....
I started day 1 yesterday. Did the tea night before and swf in am. Had eliminations. Drank a total of 10-8 oz lemonades.... in the late afternoon I started getting my low blood sugar feelings. I was dizzy (standing and laying down), confused, cranky, hypersensitive, belching, major migraine that lasted all night (I had to take tylenol and aleve), hunger pains (which I could have tolerated without all the other stuff) and shaking sooo bad.... I had to cheat. I ran to the local drugstore and purchased a glucose monitor. The pharmacist handed me orange juice. I felt a tiny bit better. But as the night wore on... I thought I was going to die; I felt so bad. So, of course I cheated.
The night was not good. I couldn't drink or eat anything after I had the small amnt I did eat. No headache this morning. I'm back to trying the tea. What now?
Other questions I have...
What is black strap molasses? Can I drink mineral water? and on that note, can I drink sparkling mineral water from Germany once in a while? What is the difference with 'distilled drinking' water and just 'distilled' water? I really do not want to drink 'spring' water...you never know if it's been purified.
Thank you for the support. As you can tell, I really need it!
