My husband is diabetic and wants to do the cleanse. *I need more info concerning the type of molasses, and how much to use, etc. *Can't find much about it in the books I have.

In an earlier version of The Master Cleanser, Burroughs says the following:

Substitute a tablespoon of molasses for the maple syrup at first, testing glucose levels frequently and gradually building up to 2 tablesppons of molasses. The glucose testing needs to be done frequently as the need for medication may diminish. After the person reaches two tablespoons of molasses, they may switch over to maple syrup.

That's what Burroughs says. You can find these details in his book Healing for the Age of Enlightenment.

I have a friend who is a diabetic and did the Master Cleanse starting off straight away with maple syrup and did well. I also know another lady who tried it with maple syrup and her glucose shot up to the point I told her to get off the cleanse!

So diabetics should definitely monitor their glucose closely and in conjunction with their licensed health care practitioner.

I am a type 1 diabetic and am on my 11th day of the MC. I reduce the amount of maple syrup (1.5 tablespoons instead of 2). Otherwise, I'm doing the cleanse exactly as instructed.

I check my blood sugar levels several times a day and am injecting approximately a third of the insulin that I normally would while eating.

I have only once in 11 days been low blood sugar, but a spoonful of maple syrup soon set that right.

A couple times during the cleanse my blood sugar has been strangely high. These times don't seem to be related to drinking the maple syrup-ed lemonade. My theory is that the digestion of fat (even though--typical far a type 1 diabetic--I was slim to begin with), somehow also releases stored up sugar (sweet toxins?) in my body.

Mostly, however, my blood sugar levels have been smack dab in the normal range, and I feel great!

Does anyone know how the MC would affect type 2 Diabetic?
