Did you know that all R.O. water (reverse osmosis) is acidic, as is most bottled water you buy in the store? I have talked at length to researchers in the field of infectious disease, and it is a known fact that disease of all kinds stem from over acidity in our bodies. Two waters that have been tested for PH alkalinity and pass the test are Crystal Geyser and Fiji.
Check out www.alkalife.com sometime for a real eye opener on the subject of acidity. Once there, scroll to the bottom of the left colum and check out Dr. Sang's TECHNICAL ARTICLES. It makes for extraordinarily interesting reading.
Did you also know that it takes 32 glasses of water to neutralize the acid in just one can of soda?
Knowledge is power and I love to learn!

You are so right. After I read up on it I purchased my own water IONIZER that produces alkaline water from your tap water.
If you want to learn more about the many health benefits of drinking alkalnized water another good website is:

In general spring water or artesian water is the best to use, providing it comes from a pure source of course. My 2 favorites are Fiji water and Trinity water. Trinity water is VERY alkaline with a PH rating of 9.0 * *. Here is a link to the trinity website :
http://www.trinitysprings.com/source/difference.asp
I've also read you can make water more alkaline by using + charge magnets . Tape a few + charged magnets on the outside of your water pitcher and after a couple hours it will have changed PH. If you doubt this or think this is junk science make a pitcher of coffee or lemonade and place magnets on the pitchers bottom and sides and come back in a half hour and taste it. I have also read you can do the same with - charged magnets to make water more acidic, which is bad for drinking but great as a skin cleaner. Putting a few quartz crystals at the bottom of your water pitcher is supposed to be a good treatment for water as well. Doesn't purify it but creates a beneficial frequency pattern.
There is a lot of interesting info on the net about structured water and such. Structured water is supposed to be "wetter" and more beneficial. Magnets cause the water clusters to clump together less and move more freely.
There are also things you can buy off the net to change the PH of your drinking water by adding a drop or 2 to your water. Here is an interesting additive :
http://www.rawfood.com/cgi-bin/order/index.cgi?id=814265138894&d=single&item_id=0931&c=Supplements&sc=Water&tc=
Magnets are also great for when you are having leg or calf cramps for the same reason. Place a pair of magnetic foot braces on your feet and the blood will clump together less and move more freely. Every time I get a calf cramp I put on the braces and in a few seconds it goes away. You can make your own footbraces with the directions at http://alexchiu.com . Ebay is always selling rare earth Neodymium blocks for around 5 bucks each. These are STRONG magnets. Beware of alexchiu's website though, the guy is a quack and his claims false, but the magnetic *devices have very legit applications.
More info about the foot braces can be found at :

I'm wondering if the kind of water really matters. I just made my first batch of lemon juice (I'm on day 1) but unfortunately I don't have any bottled water so I had to use tap water. Does it really matter? What difference does it make?
Thanks.

It's highly recommended that you use spring water, because tap water contains alot of additives and even pollutants, that are just entering and accumulating in your body.
Not sure if using tap water will really make a huge differance, though.

If you only have access to tap water and you absolutely must use that then at least filter it thru a PUR or BRITA type filter. Artesian or Spring water is by far your best choice though which is better than even distilled. If you are extra particular then get a high end artesian such as Trinity which is very alkaline. Any decent spring water (assuming it comes from a pure source) is fine though.
Tap water tends to have high levels of chlorine as well as various levels of pesticides and other chemical residues you want to stay away from. Many cities add flouride to their water as well.
Whenever I run out of trinity and am waiting for more I just go to the store and get gallon jugs of Ice Mountain spring water or Fiji water. These 2 brands are my favorite when Trinity isn't around, however most any pure spring water will likely be fine.

You should not use distilled water.
In the book Burroughs says to use purified or spring water.
Purified is not distilled.
Distilled has no minerals in it.

Hello Everyone!
Forgive me if this topic has been posted and addressed thousands of times before, however I am new, kind of crunched for time, therefore I didn't have the opportunity to browse through all the topics.
I will be starting the MC this Wednesday evening, however I have a question about water.
I know Purified and Spring water is recommended (esp since it doesn't have fluoride in it). However, I have a Brita Water Filter Pitcher. Does that filter and purify the water enough for a good, quality MC cleansing and detox?
patriotgirl
April 24th, 2006, 10:03 AM
I dont know about the purifier, however, I do know that when I do this cleanse I use distilled water. I only drink distilled water and have for about 5 or 6 years. When I started this 2 years ago, my first cleanse I passed a kidney stone. (And I was using Spring water from Wal-Mart.) 2 weeks later I did my 2nd cleanse (again with spring water), and passed another kidney stone. Very painful. Excruciating pain. So after a year I did another cleanse this time with distilled water (21 days) and no kidney stones this time. So that is my story. Nothing but distilled water for me, ever.
Gotta go swf coming thru

Thank you everyone! So I should not use the Britta water, get either distilled or Spring Water for the MC.
I'm more concerned about my drinking water while I am doing the MC. Is the bottled water from my office's water cooler ok to drink while doing the MC? I will obviously use the distilled water for my salt water flush, teas, and lemonade.

i would think that the water at the office is okay, you can check to see where it comes from...
i do not think it will be tap water, most likely it will be spring water or something of that nature.

Spring Water or Distilled Water?
You can use either one. Distilled water is the
purest form of water, but sometimes is questioned
due to a great deal of misconceptions. Read Dr.
Weil's article about distilled Water.
How much should I drink?
Take 6 - 10 glasses of lemonade during the day. Six
(6) glasses for those wishing to reduce. Extra water
may be taken as desired.

May 28th, 2006, 02:02 PM
Distilled water may be pure in some ways, but don't use it during the cleanse.
It has no minerals.
High mineral consumption during the cleanse is important.
Thats the reason for using the dark maple syrup - it has the highest level of minerals.
During the cleanse I drink a lot of "Trinity" water. Its loaded with minerals.

Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding the fluoridated water. I now you are not suppose to drink it while on the cleanse. I am drinking spring water. But it says to not take a bath in it. Today is the fist day of my cleanse and I feel cold. I ran a bath of hot water to alleviate my cold hands and feet. How do I know if fluoride is put in the water and if so, is there a special shower head that filters fluoride? I need to know asap, I am feeling okay but I'm not sure how i will feel later and if I have to go out I think I had better do it soon.
Thanks

Have you noticed anything not going as it should in your cleanse??
I ask because I spoke to my mom today and she said filtered water is not the same as a distilled or spring water because it can't filter out flouride. I'm not totally sure she is 100% sure of herself though, so it could still be okay for the cleanse, but whenever I use it, I always have that gut feeling its not the right thing to be using... :c/

Mallory, I wouldn't use any filtered water except RO. If I didn't have one in my home I would buy it by the gallon at the store. Do you have an RO filter?
I am pretty sure it does not filter out flouride. Why is flouride so bad?
Everything seems to have gone as planned for my MC with my water. I have had bad headaches every evening, but when I do the flushin the morning they are gone. I assume this is from the buld up of toxins in my body through the day. That and hunger and cravings have been my only problems, and I finished day 10 today. I don't think the flouride is causing these things...

How about reall spring water. I live in the Mountains of NC and my mom has a spring with great water that runs off the mountains, it is filtered then pumped to the house. To me this is as organic as you can get. What do you think?

Take some time and research fluoride, you'll be shocked what you find. Here is one site with some links, there is a lot of other information about this.
http://www.lovethetruth.com/truth_about_fluoride.htm
I don't understand why this information is so buried in society and we allow it to be used. Many other countries have banned it's use because they have studied fluoride and found how poisonous it is. It is a serious toxin your body is hopefully ridding while doing the cleanse.

Can someone here recommend some known brands of spring water? I buy bottled water, but it doesn't say spring anywhere on the label or that flouride is filtered out of it. Is there a specific term I should know to be able to tell if water is free of flouride?
octoberthehottie

I also hate spring water, ozonation sounds unnatural, so I drink artesian water, it seems to me no matter what brand it all seems to taste the same to me and I love it!!! My favorite is Fiji water, but I also like Voss, and now I usually pick up a gallon of Springtime water, which is actually artisian, but is very cheap, about $1.50 for a gallon, when I was getting 6 pint sized bottles of Fiji for almost $7, and I just fill up the old bottles everyday. The gallon jug is made of clear plasic, not transparent, which is good, and there is a handle built around the top of the bottle.

July 25th, 2006, 07:57 PM
We buy filtered water from a water store here or from the health food store. Both places have heavy duty, industrial RO filtrations systems.
I don't like buying water in a jug from the store b/c plastic can leach into in and many times you are buying water that is not better than tap water. If I have to buy water from the store in a jug I get distilled. It is the purist you can buy. But you still have the plastic problem to deal w/. :)

July 25th, 2006, 11:54 PM
I love distilled water, but I still can't stomach spring water that has been distilled, I can really tell the difference. I haven't been able to find one that I like in a while, I was drinking that Nursery water that has flouride in it and it was distilled and I liked that, but decided I was going to go back on the side of being against flouride ( I just can't deny that it makes sense, toothpaste fine, I don't want European teeth, yuck, but I don't need to injest it ). But I used to get Albertson's brand distilled when I lived in Orlando and it was great, but there aren't any Albertson's in Atlanta :( I think I have tried Kroger brand before, but maybe I will try it again??
I am pretty sure distilling takes everything out, but I don't believe that water needs anything myself, then again, when going without food that is another story. Probably why purified or spring is suggested. Oh duh, to answer everyone's debate going on about their filtered water, I would guess as long as it is filtered enough to be considered purified there is your answer. Too much to question there tho, so I will stick with my bottled water. Which BTW I have heard it is only the water in the transparent bottles that leaches into the water, perhaps if the clear bottles are left to sit long enough it can happen to them too, but I would say if it is a concern pour your water into a glass container after bringing it home, cuz it doesn't happen much immediately. Learned that one the hard way. I had a brand new bottle of the Nursery water I mentioned in the fridge and went to Jamaica for a week, when I came back it smelled like plastic and tasted like it bad.... But like I said, that water is in the transparent bottles, so it happens a lot faster than the clear ones, or like I said, if at all. I would think the time it took to get to the store and to your house and into a glass container would have so little plasic leach that your body could fight that off easy, and could be a nice workout for your immune system??? Maybe?? I am not sure if it works that way, lol.
But my goal is to one day get a home distiller for myself and hope that at least after a still or 2 this Atlanta water tastes like the distilled waters I have loved in the past. I looked before and you can get one for about $500 and does a gallon in 12(?) hours I think it is?!?! I am sure that you have to be careful, as it is the new millenium, the governement might still be flaging for moonshire proprieters, lol....

No I don't think most people drink their tap water. Most of us use filters. I have a very nice reverse osmosis filter, the kind that treats most of the bottled water out there, but I don't think my RO filters out flouride. I don't know of any water filter that filters out flouride, do you?
Most of the bottled water you buy is from a public water source. I am pretty sure all of those water sources are treated with flouride, but I could be wrong. The only exception is true "spring" water. This is water that comes from an actual spring, and is not just treated tap water. I think that is why the diet calls for spring water.
I personally drink my RO filtered water. Perhaps I need to do more research on why flouride is so evil.

Victory, I had the same exact question as you. I read Peter's book and it said not to bathe in water with flouride. I'm pretty sure all tap water has flouride. I think that bathing in it is not nearly as bad as drinking it. I also think that you must do what you can to get through. I like to bathe while I shave my legs and I really don't feel like going all natural. I think we should both be ok and if a bath helps you get though so you can continue the cleanse then do it.

Make sure you keep stocked up. I drink about 2 gals a day, not counting what I use for lemonade and tea.
About the gum - that's a no-no. Gum stimulates digestion and that's the last thing you want unless you enjoy feeling incessantly hungry.
If you feel the urge to chew, include some pulp in your lemonade. Or maybe try a straw or a toothpick. I won't lie, I've enjoyed a few good straws in my lifetime.

I just bought the books (Master Cleanser and 10 Days...) and my kit is on the way. I am really excited to start, as I am only 22 years old and was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. My diet is terrible, I am out of shape and overweight. So I can't wait to start the Master Cleanse and then start adding more raw foods to my diet.
I just have one question first, and I didn't see it addressed in the book: what is the best way to get non-fluoridated water? Will the filter in my fridge work? Or should I buy bottled spring water? What brand? And if my locality fluoridates water, how am I supposed to bathe in non-fluordated water?
Also, so I can give, not just take... I was reading that one of the side effects can be burning BMs. I have had IBS for a few years now and I have found this great stuff called Balneol Soothing Perianal Cleansing Lotion. It is very soothing for your poor bum!

hey ksx401~
welcome to the BB
congrats on getting ready for the cleanse correctly (doing the research, reading the books) and congrats on the big change you're about to make in your life.
about the water - buy spring water and make sure it doesn't say added flouride. i buy store brand sometimes, or crystal springs or deer park. no preference really. sometimes it's what's cheaper or what tastes better.
about the bathing thing, i truly don't know. i bathe as usual when on the cleanse: naked, in my shower, singing to myself.
for the burning bms, i've never had them but as long as you don't ingest anything the lotion should be fine. i'd suggest in investing in babywipes because more so tenderness in that area can be a problem.

:) You only want water in your water. Nothing else. Spring water is legally any water that is potable-- meaning you can drink it wihout getting sick. So if you bottle your tap water, that is spring water. Anything that is in a spring can also be in your water. Distilled water has been made pure. See this site for more on Pure Water. Lemonlady,
You definitely don't want to use distilled water on this cleanse.
I has no minerals in it. You want minerals in it.
In Burrough's list of waters to use, distilled is the only one not on it and for good reason.
On my first cleanse I used distilled, and my body was in starvation mode rather than cleansing mode.
You want cleansing mode and no distilled.

i use the brita filter if i want room temp water, but also the filter on your fridge usually gets the ickiness out of the water if you want cold. boiling the tap water actually makes the chlorine and bad stuff into the gas form, which you then breath and absorb many times worse :(

Imagine my horror when I looked on Arrowhead's website and discovered that the spring water we have been using for the MC contains fluoride!! It does not say this anywhere on the label! I believe fluoride is one of those additives that the FDA does not legally have to inform you is in products. So if fluoride is a concern for you, do some research on the specific brand and kind of bottled water you are getting.
I have also been trying to figure out (like some other folks earlier on this thread) what I could do to be able to bathe in non-fluoridated water, since our water here in Las Vegas is fluoridated. The Las Vegas Valley Water District website states: "Fluoridation of the water supply provides valuable dental benefits. Valley residents pay an average of 4 cents per month to cover fluoridation costs, which total about $350,000 annually." I can't believe I'm paying to be poisoned. As far as the dental benefits, Google "dental fluorosis" and decide for yourself.
As far as whether bathing in it is not as bad as drinking it, in his book "Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About," Kevin Trudeau states that "you absorb more toxins by taking one shower than by drinking eight glasses of water."
A brief internet search shows a variety of shower head filters and whole-house systems that do reduce fluoride. More research is in order...!

Gemini,
Try Gaiam.com; they have shower and faucet heads that filter out chemicals and such.

Thanks... what a cool company!
Upon further research, I am finding that most bottled water (except distilled, which I don't really want to use since it has no minerals at all) seems to have some fluoride in it, even if it is "naturally occurring." Does anyone know if there is a difference between fluoride that is naturally occurring in water, and the stuff they add to the water supply? I have even read that red and black tea contains naturally occurring fluoride. I am trying to do what's best for my body without living in a bubble! Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Gemini,
I think there is a difference between bottled spring water and most municipal water. Tap water is fluoridated, while spring water may or may not have miniscule amounts of naturally occurring flouride. You can certainly buy a filtration system like Brita or Pur to filter your tap water and that would be good.

We do have a Brita, but it's my understanding that they don't filter out the fluoride. In fact, their website says: "Because Brita filters remove only small amounts of fluoride over the life of the filter, you don't have to worry about missing out on the benefits of fluoride in your tap water."
We are actually looking into getting a whole-house filtration system. Still researching...

What about Distilled water? I am surprised it is not recommended:confused:

Distilled water is totally devoid of any minerals at all, which is probably why it isn't recommended for the MC. Your body needs the minerals that are naturally found in water.

I have been using Brita filtered water for 3 days and it seems to be fine so far. I also have been having occaisional poland spring for going places-now after reading this entire thread that is looking like a bad idea. Does anyone specifically know what the flouride in brita-filtered water can do to you on the cleanse? i know it doesn't help to have any toxins at all, but Fiji is very expensive and only seems to come in small bottles around here. I'll keep checking the labels. I am in the city so no closeby natural springs to get water at.
I'm wondering if the damage is not great but minimal...or if it comes around and whoops you around day 7 or something.
thanks!

Papaya,
Do the best you can. Your water may not be the best, but it isn't going to completely ruin the effects of your cleanse either.

Hi Gemini, Where did you see that distilled water is NOT recommended?
Distilled is the same thing as Purified, and on page 17 of The Master Cleanser, S. Burroughs recommends Spring or Purified. There is an additonal value to drinking distilled water while detoxing. Clean water, weither distilled, purified, or reverse osmosis, absolutely Must pick up foreign objects as it passes over them. In this case, it will absolutely pick up toxins and remove them from your body(upon elimination). Pure water is also a universal cleaner. The next time you spill blood or wine or anything else on your clothes, soak it it distilled water for a few minutes and watch how it pulls the stain out. Mustard or anything else with artificial dyes are harder to get out, but it will do better than bleach.

I'm on day 16 now, approaching my 20 day goal. I'm concerned I've been doing something wrong. Burroughs says the water should be very warm when preparing the lemonade. On the other hand, Glickman mentions the fact that heat destroys the enzymes that are in the lemon juice. Up till now I've been boiling water and mixing it with equal or smaller amounts of water at room temperature to cool it down a bit. Have I been killing the cleansing process all this time by mixing the lemon juice with semi-hot water?

Ho boy - you know that line about opinions? Okay, so heat can destroy enzymes but here's where I'm holding my ground; ;) My first cleanse I was naive and got through most of my 23 days without knowing about this board. I bought the book and away I went until I found this place.
I boiled the heck out of my water (still do) and added Oh, about 1 cup hot water to the premeasured lemon juice and maple and swirled it around. Then I added room temp spring water and drank it either warm or hot. Burroughs does say hot water and before I came here that's all I knew.
I lost 23 lbs in 23 days and felt better than I had in a year. Now - I believe in following the cleanse to a T as far as what we ingest, but some people like more cayenne, others like agave nectar in place of maple etc. What works for you? I still love to drink my lemonade hot. As long as no one is adding anything else to the cleanse other than the ingredients Burroughs stated and not altering that part any other way, I think if you like it hot then go for it. Some like it hot.
Love,
~Res

A good filtration system is the the Berkey Filtration System. Its gets out all the chemical, heavy metals, and other nasty stuff in the municipal water. And you can add on an extra set of filters that will get rid of all the flouride. the site is berkeywater.com. I have the filtration system and used that water on my fast.
Just a thought :)

In all this discussion about water, I think a very important point has been missed: when plants make the plastic containers that house store-bought water, it causes a lot of pollution, including WATER pollution! Up to three gallons of polluted water for every pint bottle produced.
"Bottled water is an environmental loser just about any way you look at it - in its manufacture and its disposal," says Dr. Alan Hershowitz of the National Resources Defense Council.
And when people don't recycle water bottles, they also pollute the environment. Less than one out of four bottles is recycled.
Here is the link where I got the info in the two paragraphs above:
http://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?g=cc3ed8bd-e15f-46c1-b3d7-06694c9fbe9c&f=&fg=email
Here is a link to another video about water:

I think that it is our duty to be environmental stewards. Eating foods that are organic and that are good for our bodies is definitely a plus, but I can't help but think how irresponsible it is to pollute the environment for our own personal greater good. I personally, stopped purchasing bottled water a while ago because I feel that any benefits I get from it are negated by the negative impact that the manufacture of bottled water has on the planet (and I even recycled 100% of the water bottles that I bought). I have decided that if I have concerns about my local tap water, I will just boil it and/or filter it through my Brita filter. Everyone can do what they want, but I just thought this was an important point not be overlooked.
I once heard someone say that being an environmentalist doesn't mean recycling your styrofoam cups, it means not buying them in the first place.

Is is okay to go swimming in the ocean? I've always felt fantastic after swimming in the ocean, it's very healing for me. It's summer and I live in Southern California, so I would hate to give it up. I was planning on going to the beach tomorrow.

Sure! Enjoy yourself!
(But I saw on the other forum that you may have low blood pressure.
don't overtax yourself, and be sure to stick near people in the water, just in case. :) )

Hello all. I'm living in Toronto and am currently on Day 9 of my first cleanse, shooting for 20+ days or until my body tells me to stop. I've been to 5 different grocery stores including The Big Carrot and Whole Foods and every type of water (minus distilled) has some minute amount of fluoride within. Compliments Spring Water and MC Ozonized Natural Spring Water have the least amount at 0.04ppm, most other brands have 0.2 to 0.8ppm.
After reading articles on fluoride, I'm appalled it's still added to most waters. My question is where on earth, or better yet, Toronto, can I find Spring Water without any added fluoride!? I feel super accomplished on my cleanse though I'd like to cut out any and all fluoride for the remainder.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I really like carbonated water such as Perrier - is it okay to drink carbonated water while on the Master Cleanse (not for the lemonade drink but just in the general drinking of water between lemonades)?8)

Does anyone know if filtered water from a Britta pitcher is okay to use or does it still have too many extra things in it?

I looked at the link about no carbonated in the general questions, but theres not explanation why. Does someone know? I get really bad stomach aches, so I'll have seltzer water. Generally its from indigestion, so it shouldn't be an issue, but then again I don't know if its more than that. Thanks to any replies.

I am on day 7 and it's been going great. I bought bottled water at the beginning then i decided just use what i have at home, which is a "Brita" water purifying pitcher.
Do you think it is as good as spring or purified water?

Hello Everyone!
Forgive me if this topic has been posted and addressed thousands of times before, however I am new, kind of crunched for time, therefore I didn't have the opportunity to browse through all the topics.
I will be starting the MC this Wednesday evening, however I have a question about water.
I know Purified and Spring water is recommended (esp since it doesn't have fluoride in it). However, I have a Brita Water Filter Pitcher. Does that filter and purify the water enough for a good, quality MC cleansing and detox?
Hi - I just started my fourth MC and a long time overdue only because I had an injury this winter. I had the opportunity to consult with a ND and she did advise me to use alkaline water. If you don't have the machine it is hard to get. What she advised is that even spring water can have some inpurities and also acidic in comparison (of course to alkalized water) but she said that if you use the spring water, still run it through a brita for extra purification and that the lemon/lime will alkalize the water more for you anyway. I hope this helps.
