I was actually sitting here on day one of my MC and thinking about herbal teas. I just realized that I have an acre of land that has all kinds of plants, wildflowers etc.
Does anyone know if I can make herbal teas out of these plants? Or rather, how to make herbal teas? I am pretty sure if I wanted to use them year round, I would have to either freeze them or dry them... which I have never done.
I wanted to be able to pick the plants before it gets too cold and they go away.

Also, what kind of wild plants/flowers can i use in tea (or other things for that matter) as I dont want to poision myself haha.

Thanks!
Rachele

This really isn't something you can be taught online very easily. Especially the "poisoning yourself" part, LOL.

There are some great books out from long ago. I can't remember the author's name. The first is Stalking the Wild Asparagus and there are a couple after that. He gives you great information about finding and preparing edible wild foods. I suggest you look for that.

I just went on a rose hip hunt this weekend and now have about a pound and a half in the freezer to add to our smoothies this winter. And we have lamb's quarter (pigweed) around here, which I often harvest, and I've eaten many wild mushrooms in the past (there are books on that, too).

Good luck and have fun, and I hope you live to tell us many tales!

HAHA I hope so too! I was looking at some things online on the subject and it looks like half my backyard is eatable (I would be able to live off my wild plants for months haha)

I will have to look for that book! thanks!
I am not the worlds most healthy person, but I recently (last 2 years?) started trying to make more of my own things, like I love candles, so now I make soy candles. and I started making my own clothing (crochet and sewing), and setting my own jewelry etc.

I figure, I have a huge amount of possibilities in my back yard, They are free (great for my wallet) and I am sure much healthier then the stuff I have been eating (my dog seems to like munching on some of it haha). I also plan to move this winter, so I think I need to grab what I can now, freeze it or dry it, and have lots of yummies for later. hmmmm. maybe i can transfer some to garden pots and take it with me haha.

Here's to not poisoning myself!!! ;)
