hey there,

i've been reading and learning about the MC and am anxious to get going! if only i didn't have 2 weeks of life obligations coming up that is preventing me from starting sooner :-(

anyways, was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it was okay to either chew gum or have cough drops during the MC.

also, since i'll be working during the cleanse, will i experience any embarrassing bathroom issues? our bathrooms are small single rooms spaced out through hallways... not exactly as private as i'd like.

any help is much appreciated. can't wait to join the rest of you!

For the most benefits from this cleanse its best to follow the book on what you can and should do and not do.
Sometimes you can get someones opinion but they may not understand the big picture of what the real benefits are and how that is accomplished with this cleanse.

That being said - The cough drops and chewing gum can interfere with the process of the cleanse.
They both have the tendency to give the digestive system some work.
The brilliance of this cleanse is that it was carefully balanced to get the digestive system to become inactive, causing the body to go into cleansing mode.
When that happens it will clean at the deepest levels.
It will clean each and every cell, the basic building blocks of the body.
During the cleanse you may not SEE that which is being cleaned out, but you will come to know that stuff is being cleaned out by the detox symptoms that you experience.

As far as the bathroom situation. It dosen't sound like it would be an issue.

Just wondering...are you allowed to chew gum on this fast? I'm addicted to gum, and I would probably give up if I can't chew it.

aw don't give up~
gum isn't allowed because it stimulates digestion. if you eat it you'll always be hungry and miss all the benefits of the cleanse.

have some lemon pulp to chew on in your lemonade.

Thanx. Thats reassuring, and the lemon pulp is a very good idea. I'll have to try it. I just want to finish this. I want to accomplish something.

I have a confession to make. I am chewing gum. There I have said it. I chew approx 5 pieces a day and even worse I chew gum WHILE I smoke. I figure that I am enduring about 25 deal breakers ie no coffee headaches, etc. and doing the cleanse and chewing gum is better than not doing the cleanse at all. I am NOT hungry. I am not hungry. I am NOT hungry...

lol
...
but on a serious note:

be careful sharon
I fear you're not slowing down your digestion so your body can heal itself... plus think of all the artificial things in gum, after all the work you're putting in with the lemonade and swf, do you want to be putting in all that fake stuff back in your body?

i think you can handle it, Sharon. the MC is a mental as well as a physical challenge. and i think you can do it. You've put in so much to be prepared for this and to do this, do you really want to do something that might sabotage it?

hate to sound like your mum but this is me, Miss P, being a friend and taking you to the corner to have a little "private" talk with hugs after. If we were eating, I'd offer you a cookie too. Next time.

The book and everyone on this board says no. There are chemicals in the gum and your cleansing. It also makes your stomach think your going to give it food and causes hunger pains. Personally, I chewed gum on days one and two... my breath was awful, but is getting better after someone advise me to drink more mint tea. The gum helped me, but I quit chewing on Day 3.

Hope this helps,
Angela

chewing gum is a big no-no. your body will think it's time to eat. plus you'll be ingesting the juices with all the sorbitol and whatever other randomness they put in gum. i made up sorbitol but it sounds rightly unnatural. :)

tips:
gargle with listerine or the like
get a tongue scraper
brush your teeth and tongue
drink plenty of water
drink peppermint tea
talk less

Hi there, I was wondering if you are allowed to chew gum or some type of breath mints, i work with patients all day and im sure they dont want me to have bad breath.

Hi Doc,

Unfortunately, "no". :o Gum or mints would get the digestive juices flowing and Burroughs wants us to take a break from it all.

Keep a cup of very strong Peppermint tea nearby and take sips. This is OK for the cleanse. http://www.kurts-smilies.de/up.gif

Hi Leslie, likewise here. I drink the peppermint tea that has chlorophyll as a purifier to neutralize any mouth or body odors that may arise. I also gargle with a rinse called TheraBreath, you can get online.

It is fantastic since I am close to patients all day as well.

hope this helps.

I did a search but it said the word was "too small or too common" to come up in the results... so I just figured I would ask.

Also are you allowed to freeze the lemonade and drink it kinda like a slushy? Just a question.

Any one know? Thanks :)

I am so thankful for this board :D

What can you do about bad breath if you can't chew gum?
thanks

Periodically you can drink peppermint tea or talk through cheesecloth.
Ok, just kidding on that last one. ;) Your breath may not be as bad as you think. If you're carrying around a bottle of water, take a sip before talking to people - it actually helps.

Nope, no gum. On the MC you can have:

SWF
Lemons/limes
Maple syrup/agave/molasses
Laxative tea
Plain filtered water
Occasional mint tea

That's it!

Listen, I have to chew gum. I have brutal, rude High School student that will tell you in a New York minute that your breath STINKS! with no remorse.
I chew one piece per day....

I am on day three. It's very hard!
