Aw...missed it. I wish I'd known ahead of time. Can you give us a synopsis?

consulted my good friend google and came across these

http://rawfood.meetup.com/58/boards/view/viewthread?thread=2346226

"Alissa will be challenged to help two Women loose weight in 30 days. Trust me she has been doing this with her eyes closed for years!! Her challengers are Dr. Ian Smith from Celebrity Fit Club and Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser."

there is a recap on at http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com but the website made my comp start acting funny so i got over it.
apparently there's a clip too.

Hey, Thanks!! PB - my search wasn't quite as fruitful. Guess I'll have to practice my google skills! Or borrow your good friend, whichever is easier! Ha! I guess Alissa will be back on for the results - around 30 days from now? Any idea which show?

lol I am a super googler.
I just did a search for "alissa cohen tyra banks" and got a bunch of results. my browser started acting funny after tyra's website so i quit looking at stuff.
but it seems like the guy, the doctor said he couldn't live without hamburgers.
and they're testing both methods for weight loss.

i've got two cents tho, if you switch up your diet in any way, take away major stuff like refined sugars, wheat, heavy starches and stuff like that - bread, pasta, pizza, desserts etc, you will lose weight regardless.
I lost weight when i first stopped eating meat and again when i first stopped eating fish, cheese and dairy in early 2005. but then my weight normalized. and i gained, especially because when i first gave up meat I was 11 and didn't know about protein and all that stuff so i just was eating alot of breads and rice and such. I also lost weight when I did a high protein (soy protein) diet for 4 weeks but again, after that, my weight remained constant.

so my point is, the people probably will both lose weight - but what about health? who will be healthier? who will know how to make better food choices? who will keep the weight off?

did more research, since there's been more time for people to talk:

"
Alissa Cohen, raw food coach & author extraordinaire, was featured today on the Tyra Banks show (see the clip (http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/gallery/video/index.html?=2042)) in one of the biggest raw food challenges ever! Tyra and her team created a show-down for Alissa and two of America's top diet coaches to educated their viewers on what diets work best.
Alissa was given the challenge of seeing just how big of a transformation she could take two ordinary women (http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/dietwars/culinary_cuties.html) through over a period of a few weeks. Alissa's competition, Jillian Michaels (http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/dietwars/nanny_pack.html) (NBC's: Biggest Loser (http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/)) and Dr. Ian Smith (http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/dietwars/diet_divas.html) (VH1's: Celebrity Fit Club (http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/celebrity_fit_club/series.jhtml)) were also given the same challenge.

Alissa is clearly the underdog here, but we having nothing but total confidence in her and the raw food diet! This is great new and a BIG win for raw/veg/organic/green/eco/healthy living and eating.

Stay tuned to WLIR for a video of the entire segment and updates to Alissa's progress in kicking some ass - raw style!"

got two cents:
it's tough to compare different diets on different people
1. their body make up is unique
2. their past eating styles are different
3. different things work for different people. low carb doesn't work for everybody. vegetarianism doesn't work for everybody.
4. the bottom line is, and always has been, reduce calories, eat healthier options, drink more water, and exercise. it's not as hard as people are making it seem.

so i'm curious about what the results might say but i totally don't trust them and will take them with a grain of salt

PB,

Thanks for that MUCH needed post. People are so obsessed with finding that 'one cure' when losing weight has been as simple as you outlined. And gaining weight is the exact opposite of that (as many of us can atest to) - increase calories, eat unhealthy (mainly processed foods), drink less water, and don't exercise.

One last thing and I will get off my soapbox. When someone loses weight, people almost always asks, 'What did you do.' Its not so much what you do, as much as it is what you don't do (drink, smoke, overeat, etc.) ;)

Right! (about the diet stuff) I'm interested in hearing someone talk about raw foods, so if Alissa is going to be on any show again or V Boutenko or...? I'd just like to know about it. I looked up live shows on Alissa's website, but it only showed cooking classes in the northeast. But then, my 'google' skills need some work, so ... let me know if you 'hear' of anything!

Thanks!:)

Dear Healthybiz,
From your post, it looks like you live in southern california. My friends on the west coast tell me that David Wolfe holds alot of seminars and speaks frequently about the raw food diet. His Nature's First Law website is rawfood.com, lots to read and buy.
I'm a big fan of Allissa Cohen because I took her classes to become a certified raw food chef. She's very personable, has endless energy and really makes everything so easy to prepare.
I've been living on raw food since February of this year. I got my certification this past summer and now do raw food demonstrations and personal consultations.
It's been a great change in my life. I am type 1 diabetic and I used to wear an insulin pump. I don't need my pump anymore and I've cut my insulin intake by 60%.
People ask me how I eat raw all the time and all I can say is that it doesn't feel like a sacrifice! I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and feel good all the time. I've lost 15 pounds and I don't even have to think about it. I have so much more freedom now than I ever have with the food I can eat.
You are so right when you say, it's not what you DO eat, it's what you DON"T eat that counts!
Just my 2 cents,
rfc

Ooohh! Thanks! That's perfect, rawfoodchef - I never expected to enjoy eating raw so much. I really expected to end the cleanse and go back to my normal way of eating, which really wasn't too bad, after a slow transition from the cleanse. More than a month later, I'm still transitioning through raw. And I'm loving it! I'm going to look up that site now and hope to attend a live demo or go to un-cooking school! Thanks for the tips.;)

WOW! I watched the first youtube link and was so excited about the woman who actually followed Alissa's instructions. Funny thing - I felt disappointed in the woman who didn't and I felt bad for her too.

But really the cool thing is the difference in the two. Proof positive that you can eat raw food and get healthy and look great! :D

Nice one Peanut ;)

Love,

hey all
alissa cohen is on tyra again today!! it's the results show from the diet success. she's up against dr ian and gillian. even though dr ian's team won the challenge, alissa's girls came in second. the one girl kicked but on the diet. the other girl didn't do as well. for whatever diet or lifestyle you do the key is to DO IT!! gillian's team would have had more success if they really tried. i can't wait to see alissa's book!!!!
