View Full Version : Master Cleanse in the UK

Have just reached the end of Day 2 of my first master cleanse, after reading about it in The Times last week. Feeling great - plenty of energy all day. I looked for the book on amazon.co.uk, and found it going for £50 and taking weeks to deliver, so ordered 2 from amazon.com for the rrp and they came in three days!

I'm living near Bath, and a friend from Nailsea near Bristol is also doing it - strength in numbers....

Any other Brits at it, after that Times article?

Hi Gavin, and welcome to the Board. :)

I am also UK based, and decided to the Master Cleanse after reading the article in Times2 supplement of the Times newspaper.

I am on Day 10 at the moment, and I intend to stop today.

Have you bought Stanley Burroughs book? It's only about £5 from Amazon.

Hey, Fastboyslow,
thanks for replying. No, I just bought Peter's book. Do you strongly recommend the Burrough's? I'm impressed that you've made it to the ten-day mark; how has it been? Buying small jars of organic maple syrup is a bit of a pain, but otherwise so far things are fine.
Do you know of any other Brits on the cleanse? I'd be interested to know the fallout, as it were, from the Times2 article...
Congratulations to you on your cleanse!
best, gavin

Gavin,

I thought hunger pangs would be a problem, but they not been. Food cravings, on the other hand, have been. :(

The salt water flush and laxative tea have been OK - I thought the former might prove tricky to keep down - but it's been OK for me.

I think there are several Brits here, but I cannot remember who.

I bought the Burroughs book before I came to the Board. I have not got Peter's book yet, so I don't know whether it would be worth it for you.

Maple syrup was a bit of a hassle for me too. Although I had plenty of Organic Grade A (I have been putting it on my porridge for several years now in stead of brown sugar), it was difficult to get Grade B (and more expensive).

My healthfood shop stocks organic grade c! plus another organic that doesn't grade itself. So far, no cravings, though there was a moment when passing by a Green and Black's chocolate display....

Are you feeling well, and I suppose what I really want to know is, was it worth it for you?

Peter's book is excellent, and particularly helpful in terms of support, as many bulletin postings from people experiencing the cleanse are used throughout. It's cheap on amazon.com, and, as I say, it came in no time at all.

Hi Gavin/FastBoySlow,

I was also encouraged to do the master cleanse after reading the Times article. I have been a bit slow off the blocks, but I am hoping to get going this Saturday eve, if I can find the necessary ingredients at my local Holland and Barratt (Health Shop).

I am about 40lbs overweight so you can guess why I am doing it. I am also looking forward to the extra energy and improved focus.

I do not have that much discipline so I don't know how long I will last, but I do go to the extreme with certain aspects of my life so that is probably why this has appealed to me. My 'other' thinks I'm crazy and irresponsible but from what I have read I shouldn't be depriving my body of any vital nutrients.

I am a serious caffiene addict so I am a bit worried about potential headaches once I have gone 'cold turkey'.

Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Regards

Hey Duploon,

good for you! I'm just finishing day four, and I have had excellent energy throughout: I'm not in the least concerned about not getting enough nutrients. I have had minor headaches from caffeine withdrawal, but might i suggest if you're a serious addict, that you wean yourself off tomorrow - cut your intake in half maybe? And don't panic - caffeine withdrawal almost inevitably means some kind of headache in my experience, so stick with it and think what a fantastic thing you are doing for your whole system.

I've lost six pounds in three days - I had it to lose, and there's much more where that came from.

Above all, follow the cleanse precisely - saltwater flush, laxative tea, and all. I got the book off amazon.com, as I mention above - strongly recommend you do the same - it came in three days flat - and it will help steady and guide you immeasurably. I've got a friend down here who is also doing the cleanse, and we are supporting each other, which is a real help.

Best of success to you, Duploon - you deserve it!

Ah some fellow Brits :) Glad not to be the lone voice ! LOL.

How has everyone found getting hold of the supplies, as I found that a bit of a prob last year, but they are available, just different brands (Dr Stuarts for the tea, and organic maple syrup etc)

Nice one for following the cleanse, good init ;)

Vetiver - could you tell me about the tea you mention (Dr Stuart's)? All I've found so far is some Ayurvedic stuff that has some senna in it, and then some senna seed pods I got from a local Neal's Yard dispensary.

Thanks...

duploon, welcome to the board, and good luck for your start this evening. I have cut down my caffeine over the past few years, drinking mainly green tea and white tea, and very little coffee.

gavin, looks like you're doing well - keep it up. :)

Hello all,

Less than a day, and I am really looking forward to the challenge of not chewing on anything for such an extended period.

I went to my local health store for the final supplies this morning, but was only able to get lax tea containing an unknown % of senna and amber grade no. 2 maple syrup. Can anybody advise on products more suitable. I did see a grade b maple syrup on the internet (meridian) but the postage and packaging is double the cost of the product. I will get going with what I got in the meantime though.

Is anybody keeping a daily diary of experiences and side effects? I think it would be quite good to refer back to it at a later stage.

Good to hear everyone is doing so well, I hope I can do likewise.

Duploon - I got some senna seed pods from a 'Neal's Yard Remedies' place, and it's quite possible they have a website where you could order from them.

Getting through my fifth day, and I have to say that this morning I was a little depressed at the lack of 'fireworks' I'm exhibiting: no major explosions, no seriously awful tongue, no real side effects. Obviously, I should be grateful - perhaps the fact that I haven't eaten wheat for four years helps (I'm intolerant). But maybe FastBoySlow has some comment? Am I just brewing up a major event for day seven, do you think?
On the other hand, I was shocked and delighted to see that I've lost precisely a stone in five days, which seems an awful lot, but being several stone overweight I do have it to lose. What delights me about this is that I've not felt hungry much at all, and it has so far seemed pretty painless.

FastBoySlow - going to order that Burroughs book, as I'm fascinated by the way the body seems to appreciate fasting. Thankyou for that.

Hi Gavin, the only half decent (as far as ingredient quality is concerned) tea I found is the Dr Stuarts one

http://www.drstuarts.com/shop.asp?catID=1&productid=66%234#

It seems to be available in some health food shops as well as by mail order. It contains 33 % senna and for a herbal tea tastes pretty reasonable. I never had any of the stomach cramps and pain that seems to go with the US tea and it does work. I couldn't stomch the salt water so had the tea instead, and the cleanse still worked.

For the maple syrup I used organic as that is also good quality. For the March and July fasts, am getting some from Lembas as they do OG grade B in bulk.

www. lembas.co.uk

They are a wholesaler who will deliver to your door in bulk, with orders over (I think) £120, and it is very easy to fill that order :)

If doing the salt water flush, the only place I found the Celtic grey salt that is recommended is

http://www.cssales.co.uk/csshop/freshnetworkshop.html

The freshnetwork is also a good site for raw recipes if that is the route you choose to go post MC.

Good luck with the cleanse, everyone seems to be doing really well.
If anyone has any queries, please do ask. I am so chuffed that more Brits have now found out about the MC, it really is such a positive experiance and a way of helping ourselves :)

Hey Vetiver - thankyou so much, that really is incredibly helpful. I like the sound of the lembas website - obviously run by some Tolkien fans - and shall get ordering on the maple syrup.

Day six now, and things are fine. I've got to go to Germany and France on thursday next week, and am contemplating at which point to end this fast, knowing from reading the Board that coming off the cleanse can be tricky...

Thanks again, and best of luck to you for your cleanse

I have been using Puri-Tea as the laxative tea. It certainly works, but at ~ £15.00 for 25 sachets, it is expensive. I shall probably look around for a cheaper alternative next time.

The only Grade B maple syrup I could find on line was the Meridien one, and it's much more expensive than the Rowse Organic Grade A. But I bought a lot of other stuff at the same time, so P&P was not a problem. The Grade B does have a more intense flavour which I prefer.

I had no major side effects, apart from ucky tongue. But I had no major energy boost either. Perhaps I still have a lot of toxins inside my body. :(

Gavin - nice weight loss! Mine was certailnly less than that after 5 days; it was nearer to 10lbs. However, I have found out that my SWF was double the concentation of salt, so that may have had an effect. I lost ~ 1 stone over the week and ~ 18lbs over the 10 days.

Tomorrow is the first day of normal eating, after 3 days of OJ and vegetable soup. I must say the soup last night was Equisite - and coming from a carb and carnivore junkie, that's high praise! :)

Hey

Thanks for all the info regarding resources of products.

I have to embarrassingly admit that I bombed out within less than a day. The laxative and swf really did the job, but the pepper got me down. I'm not to keen on that serious afterburn you get when drinking the lemon drink. I was also struggling with a serious headache and dizziness during the day. I was concerned that it would effect my ability to concentrate while driving to work today. Everybody else in the house eating also got to me.

I am still keen to do this and the reaction I had seems to indicate how necessary it is for me to detox myself, and in hindsight maybe I should just have perservered.

It is good to see that the rest of you are doing so well, and I think without this BB I would have probably thown in the towel altogether.

Good luck, and hopefully we will talk again in a while.

Regards

FastBoySlow - I wouldn't say I got a major energy boost, but just had plenty of energy. Today, my seventh day, and after reading the main Board re coming off the fast, I have started on the OJ in preparation for travelling abroad on Wednesday - sorry not to be doing the full ten days this time, but knowing that I shall be planning it better in a couple of months time. Actually, as Peter has said, the OJ seems so amazingly sweet, I am cutting it with grapefruit juice. Now that my body knows it is to get chewable food tomorrow evening, it's starting to complain 'why not sooner??', but the horror stories on the Board persuade me to take things very slowly...

Hey Duploon, don't worry - I think it's important to remember that this cleanse is simply a tool, and not a religion, nor are the CleansePolice coming to get you (I hope!)!

As the pepper seems to be one ingredient which it is permissable to enhance the dose on, I suggest next time you start with a lower dose of pepper and build up. I have to say I love it, and found a hotter variety in my healthfood shop that does the ticket.

Now the idea is in your mind, see you here some other time....

best, gavin

duploon,

Sorry to hear you had to end the MC before the 10 days.

I made certain that I, effectively, took 2 weeks holiday - which is relatively easy, as I am self-employed.

I did not do any driving, and stayed in the house all the time, apart from a daily 5 mile walk.

I was used to the Cayenne, as I have taken much larger doses in the past to cure nose bleeds without resorting to cauterisation.

Good Luck, next time. :)
