View Full Version : Detox Symptoms: Don't hate em. They're Milestones
Peter

Although detoxifcation symptoms are unpleasant :P, they ought to be desired :o. No one wants the feelings associated with detoxifying :-[, but that's the purpose of the cleanse. If you're not detoxifying, you're not making progress and won't feel better afterward! :)
I place detox symptoms into four classes. Knowing these will be gone in a day or two, it is MUCH easier to persevere and complete the cleanse. ;)
1. Cravings. I've noticed I crave things for a few hours or a day. Usually after the next morning's elimination, the craving is gone and I feel better. As your body detoxifies (eliminates the toxic waste from) cooked meat, dairy products, etc. It craves the hamburger, pizza, ice cream, etc. that is being "peeled off" in layers. :-[
2. Tiredness. When your body fights toxins, whether from detoxifying or an infection, it diverts energy into healing and away from the energy you use to work and play. :'(
3. Irritability. This includes the desire to "just chew something solid." >:(
4. Physical aches, pains, nausea, vomiting, etc. These are the most severe reactions and only occur where a person is severely toxic, only a small percentage of people experience these. Fortunately, these have gone away after only a day or two in every case I have heard about. :-X
Now that you know these are only temporary and milestones that you are becoming healthier, you will have the perspective to complete the cleanse and make it through. After you personally experience the gain you make after a detox day, you'll actually begin to look forward to them knowing that the next day will be a new plateau! 8)

Hi Mary,
Those aren't common detox symptoms, but some people have different reactions. Most likely, they'll diminish tomorrow and be gone the next day.
Be sure you are doing all the elimination actions each day: laxative tea each night, another cup of laxative tea or the salt water flush each morning and at least 1 oz. of lemonade or water each day for every 2 pounds of body weight.
Then, if these don't lesson in two days, you should consider going off the cleanse and seeing a licensed health professional.

On what day should I expect to see the white, coated, fuzzy tongue? (I'm currently on day 1) And will I have much of a detox being that I eliminated everything - milk, eggs, cheese, meat, bread, pasta, sweets, etc - for almost two weeks now? I've been around 90% raw during those two weeks - but still haven't eaten any of the above products. (just some unprocessed tomato and basil soup made in water)

Hi Christine...that seem to be a common side effect. Many of us are cold all the time. Even those folks in Florida. :D

Hey Peter,
great job with this message board.
I wanted to know if detoxing included sinus's that go haywire?
I already have a sinus problem, and down here in fla. i notice that changes in the weather make it worse i.e. excess post nasal drip. Recently the weather has made my sinus' overactive so i decided to do the cleanse again to see if it would help. They got worse. last night i could barely sleep and they seem to be getting progressively out of hand , i dont want to introduce flonase or allegra into my system as i want to be as free from medication as possible and let my body heal itself as dr. bourroughs stated. so my question is if u ever had anyone with these symptoms and did they clear up as the cleanse progressed?
thanx in advance for any assistance u can give.

Another detox symptom I'm experiencing: mucus drainage!
I am on Day 4 and I'm not stopped up at all but I have found myself having to blow my nose quite a bit. Whatever I'm not expelling from blowing my nose I can feel running down my throat, especially in the morning. I'm assuming that some mucus is also being expelled through eliminations.
This is a good/"normal" thing, right?

I'm on day 6 and I feel terrible. I went on it for the usuall 11 days once berfore and I felt terrible then also. Every time I try to go for a run Afterwards I feel like I'm going to pass out on the road and I can't even walk straight. Went through the same thing last time. It didn't just pass last time and I doubt it will this time either. I need the quick weight loss so I just put up with it cause I need to go to basic training and I'm to heavy to go. So much for feeling healthier and refreshed. I don't feel like that at all and didn't feel like that last time either. I feel deceived.

I'm on day 3 and very glad I found this site. Otherwise, I would think that something is terribly wrong and probably cease the cleanse.
I don't feel fantastic like the books says and other people say they feel. I do get hungry and just go with the experience.
Since each person is different then it makes sense that the reactions are different.
However, I was sitting down gardening yesterday and mildly turned to pull a weed behind me and Totally wrecked my back to the point that I'm home from work today...not good. So along with all the detox symptoms I'm in excruciating back pain but not taking anything for it. Is is possible (I've had back trouble in the past) that the cleanse and my back going out could be connected? Sounds like a stretch, I know. But I haven't thrown it out this bad since 3 years ago when I had surgery. Just wondering...
...I'm sticking with the cleanse though. I'm hoping to go for the 20 days. It's a new and strange journey and can't see anything but benefits at the end of the road.
Much thanks to the moderators for creating this place.

Hi Christine,
Dr. Joel Fuhrman, in his book on fasting to regain health, mentions that occasionally his patients will experience back pain.
If you're still monitoring this bulletin board, I'm curious as to how the cleanse ended for you?

Hey, thank you for making such a wonderful site, Peter!!
I have a quick question. I am on Day 6. Since Day 4, (when I felt incredibly ill in the morning, but then felt better as the day progressed), I find that in the morning, I have to be really careful getting out of bed, because my heart will start pounding really hard if I just hop out like normal. Now, I already have normal/low BP, so can the MC have lowered it even more? I'm worried about passing out. Is that possible? Also, my eliminations are painful. They burrrrn! Aren't you glad I shared? :)
Thanks!

For my detox symptoms I'm getting slight cramps or tightness under the right side of my ribs. Is that my liver detoxing or something else that I need to worry about? Also, is it normal to get a chaffed bum from so many eliminations? If someone could respond to these matters, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hey everyone! :P
I just started my second cleanse today! I went for 10 days a few weeks ago, and am going to try and make 14 this time. I know I didnt fully cleanse last time, as my tongue was still white when i stopped. Also, I just started to get a little rash :'( on my hand the last two days, and I assume that was due to the detoxification. I was just wondering ??? if the detox symtoms arrive sooner the second time around? I didnt have too many the last time, I had a few days where i was hungry...but not too bad, and then the rash..and that was about it. So I was wondering if this flush would start to work quicker this time..and therefore get the symptoms quicker this time...cause I just cleanses so recently? Peter...any idea?
A pre-emptive Thank you for all your help! ;D
(Wish me luck to make it the 14 days this time...last time I couldnt get past 10!)

I just sneezed and oddly it hurt the back of my jaw.
Is this a symtom? Is my jaw weakening due to a lack of Dorito's and cottage cheese? I've never experienced this before.
I'm very excited about doing this cleanse, lol and I'm sure it shows

Here's a question...
My right tonsil appears to be full of this white chunky material. Every once in awhile a small piece will come loose and I will spit it out. It feels really firm and it smells really bad. I have had this happen to me on occasion in the past but never to this degree. I'm guessing it's part of detoxing but I was wondering what this stuff is. Does anyone know or has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm on day 4 by the way.

hi! i received my books just a few days ago and I am starting day 3 of my cleanse! i had a headache for the first 2 days, but i woke up today and it was gone. however, my tongue isn't white! i'm not sure if i'm detoxing. i have been cranky and wanted to chew something, but i don't understand why my tongue isn't turning colors. i use a little more lemon juice in my drink, could that be why? ( i like it a little tart). thanks for any help!

Hi everyone, thanks for your contributions!
On my 3rd cleanse, end of day 13, going for 22 days. Mostly going well, had to eat a few almonds the past 3 days because of a strenuous work schedule for which I didn't have enough energy (light-headed, weak). But yesterday I started getting a rash on my face and neck, and today it's a full-blown red, bumpy and itchy mess!
I know I have mercury to get rid of in my system, so perhaps this is a detox symptom. How long should I expect it to last
Are there any other things I could be doing (other than NOT eating almonds) to help it heal up? I do the laxative teas (the SWF doesn't seem to work for me), lots of skin scrubbing in the shower, walks outside and extra water intake. Other suggestions?

This is in response to Maybelle...although I'm sure she is no longer on the cleanse.
She complained of stuff coming out of her tonsils. They're called "tonsil stones." Here's some info on them:
Yep, sounds like tonsil stones.
Bad breath and tonsils stones (tonsilloliths) are generally two related problems. Microbacterial organisms inside your mouth are the primary cause of bad breath. Tonsils stones are formed when sulfur from these organisms combine with debris in your mouth. The reason that these two conditions are so often linked is that the sulfur produced by the bacteria is the most likely cause of bad breath, and tonsils stones are just a symptom that these bacterial organisms are present in your mouth.
Bad breath and tonsils stones can be treated with oral care products that reduce the bacteria that cause bad breath. The tonsils stones will then disappear because the sulfur compounds are no longer present.

Hi all,
Ive just finished 8 - 1/2 days of my first Cleanse (can't go the full 10 due to family "eating obligations" on day 10) and am coming down off of it now. I am confused over my experiences on the cleanse however.
Everything I have read points to detoxification going on somewhere between day 3-4 which includes nausia, headaches, odd oders, white tounge, etc.
Over the entire 8.5 days, the only symptom I seemed to have suffered from is cravings (which was made better with more leamonade). I've felt great all week. I assume this could only mean:
1) I really AM in perfect health (like my doctor has told me in the past) and have no toxins to eliminate - even though I in NO WAY eat a balanced or healthy diet, I just apparently have great genes.
2) The toxins are so deeply routed, they have not been realeased even after 8 days of adhearing to the strict rules of the cleanse.
Even if one is in good health - should there be SOME detoxifying going on on the 3rd or 4th day? Why have I not experienced anything besides an obviously cleaned out intestinal tract? ???
My second question is different.
I have friends that quit early because they got depressed after a few days due to hunger and the loss of the act of chewing and preparing food.
I on the other hand am feeling depressed over STARTING to eat again. Is this post cleanse guilt also part of the coming down process? I'm confused.......

I'm only on Day 1, and this is my first time. My tongue is white and feels almost numb [but not quite], so I know I must be de-toxing, which is good, and I have exerpienced a few cravings which are eliminated as soon as I down another lemon beverage. I have slight cramping in my abdomen, which I suppose is another detox symptom, and have experienced the sleepiness.
Now, however, at almost the end of day 1, I am experiencing an interesting body-high sensation. I feel very relaxed, peaceful, calm.. euphoric, almost. But I feel energized, all at the same time. Isn't this part of it supposed to come later, after a few days, or toward the end of the cleanse? I feel great, despite having to run to pee every 10-15 minutes :)

hannahkitty, are you going into a menstral cycle? Period due soon? It never fails, the few days before my period, ESPECIALLY the day before, just seeing a bird fly by the window of the car will make me cry. Heaven forbid if I see a dead cat on the side of the road, then it takes hours to recover from that one! I have a week before my period should start, and this is day 1 of my 2nd cleanse, so who knows what my emotions will be like at the end of the week.
I suspect the detoxing is just bringing about your extra emotions.

thanks for the suport...i need it today! :-[
my sweetie is being reallllly good about it. actually, it's kinda funny. this SHOULD be my period right now, but it came a week early. i don't usually get emotional during it, in fact the most that happens is a dull ache in my hips.
i just figured it's detox. hopefully it'll go w/ the swf tomorrow.
also, a few people said i looked REALLY pale today. i guess they were concerned because i'm never pale. my cheeks usually have a "rosy hue" to quote my boyfriend....
so i'm waiting this out, see how it goes.
once again, thank you wannabe (and you're not a wannabe btw, you're doing it!!!!) ;)

Hello All,

I have noticed that everytime I have lemonade with the cayenne pepper, I feel like I have a sore throat. Is this a sign of detox?
Should I stop taking the pepper?

I'm on day 2 and my head is aching!! :'(
This feels a lot like it did when I stopped drinking coffee and had caffeine withdrawls a couple months ago. I'm a little surprised by the headache because I very rarely get headaches (especially not ones that start in the middle of the night and persist through the next day) and I read Peter's book in which he stated that very rarely do people get headaches and usually it's attributed to coming off caffeine. Since I haven't had caffeine in my system for 2 months, I wonder why the incessant headache ???

I started the Master Cleanser today, and I don't think I have ever been so hungry in my life! I made it through, but I pray that the intense hunger diminishes. I feel as if I need something solid in my stomach, and drinking this just doesn't seem to be satisfying it. Please tell me this will get better! I carried a headache the entire day, and felt so week and unable to concentrate. I had to quit work early as I couldn't think clearly, and ended up sleeping for most of the day and night. I am very mentally ready to do this cleanser and am trying my hardest so far. Also, I fear that by the frequent bowel movements, and not taking in much, that I could mess my system up or rid it of important vitamins and nutrients, or become dehydrated. Any suggestions?

HI everyone!
I havent seen this concern addressed yet so here goes... I am on day 6 and people are beginning to comment on my weight loss. "You're too thin!" "You're starting to look like a skeleton", etc. I had no real intention to lose weight but in the 6 days I have lost 7 pounds. I am 5'7" and started at 121 pounds. I am now 114. I've been adding more maple syrup to my lemonade but it's almost "too" sweet now. Today I was really light-headed as well.
Any advice??? ???

Hi,Michelleb ,you're just going through some heavy detox--I used to get bad migraines -cleansing and fasting cleared this out of my body. The tiredness is also due to the body detoxing--that's where it's putting it's energy right now as it works on cleaning out the old sludge.Frequent bowel movements are good--it means your body is working at cleaning out all that old garbage you don't want inside you.Stanley Burroughs mentions in his book how nutritional the master cleanse drink is--it carries all the nutrition your body will need while it goes through it's cleansing cycle as you fast. You don't have to worry about getting dehydrated, you'll be drinking plenty of fluids during the day between the swd,the senna leaf tea ,lemon drinks, and water.Best wishes to you on your fast
mladyJane
September 30th, 2005, 09:47 PM
Seaweed the weight you're losing is what is known as a false weight--mainly the built up sludge of toxins in your body.I've seen in other areas in the forum where Peter has advised people to driink more lemon drinks if they feel they are losing to much weight -he also suggested to me not to change the lemon drink and add more maple syrup,so try the extra lemon drinks during the day and see if this tapers off the weight loss. You'll gain it back soon enough or most of it anyways, after your fast.Best wishes, hope this helped you some.Dr.Jenson has some excellent books out on diet and detoxification-- on top of the mastercleanse books by Stanley Burroughs and also Peter's book --they would be a good read for anyone getting into cleansing and detoxing they're body.

I'm on day30 and this past week is when I've been having weird mental cravings for fastfood and junk food. I didn't have this at the beginning.
I think I might be craving the texture/desire to chew more than the actual food though. But then again, everyday it's a different food. First it was pizza, then Mcdonalds, KFC and Wendy's which I haven't eaten in years.. ::)

Hi,Noob actually congrats on how long you've been fasting and still are--the cravings are detox symptoms. As former bad chioce foods are cleansed out of our bodies the cravings for them will come back and bother us untill they are fully cleaned out of our system .This is mentioned in the book "Healing with whole foods " by Paul Pitchford. Best of luck to you in your cleansing and your fasting. :) :)

Hi all,
I've posted this elsewhere, but this might be an ideal place to post again anyhow.
I'm not doing so well. I'm on day 5, and yesterday was terrible - it felt like i had the flu (very achy, migraine all day, stuffed sinuses) but i figured i'd wait and see what happened with the next morning's eliminations. This morning, however, the SWF didn't really work (sometimes that happens i guess) and so today i still feel awful - also my glands are very tender : it hurts when i swallow, and when i touch my neck. In the book it says that if your symptoms don't go away with your next eliminations, something else could be wrong. Anyone else experience this? What would happen if i took some tylenol??
Advice needed!!!
Thanks,
Leah :-[

Ugh. Had those symptoms last time and, from memory, they lasted about three days. I find pain medication helped me (Panadol/Neurofen) when it got hard. I'm not ashamed to say I took two tabs four hourly and they helped immensely.
The caffiene withdrawal is hitting me hard this time and the headaches are blinding but amid the pain I look for signs that things are working such as burning eliminations, regulated urination etc.

Hi Eveyone... I found this board just before I started my cleanse and now I'm very thankful.
I'm currently on day three and ever since day two I have had the wickedest aches in my legs (mainly my hamstrings)... It's been ALL day and it's getting almost unbearable. Anyone else had this before? Anything I can do to make it better?
I'm also getting the food cravings and I'm loathing the lemonade at this point. The one thing that keeps me going is a lick from the maple syrup. I will admit I add a little more than recommended and I add it to my tea as well. Is that okay to do?
Thanks for any help given.

I'm on day 6, and I admit I've been "licking the spoon" a lot lately.
I have not experienced leg cramping, but I do get aches and pains overall in my body on detox days. However, once those pass, usually I feel more flexible.
This is my 3rd Cleanse, and I feel really great, but I do miss food and I feel depressed at times not having dinners with my family. I wanted to ask Peter or anyone who may know which days are the most typical for detox symptoms again...I can't seem to find my book, or I've given it to someone who can use it :)
Also, I started the cleanse with a cold, and six days later, I'm feeling much better and I think that the cleanse is helping, but I'm still blowing my nose, and my ears feel plugged. Any insight would be great. Good luck all, it's worth it!

breakouts are common. Everyone seems to be different in how long they last. Mine don't really go away untill after I break the fast. But I've seen others say they only lasted like a week.

I've just finished day 5. Yesterday I started the morning with some hiccups. I rarely get the hiccups. Later that day I started getting this twitch under my left eye. It was rather persistent through the night. I still had some twitching in the same place today but just a few times.
How does the cleanse affect our nervous system? I was drinking decaf coffee daily before I started the cleanse. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Anyone out there with similar detox symptoms?
Just want to say this is a great site. Thanks so much Peter for all the work and support you do for us all. Much thanks to all of you who post as well.

if you are specifically hoping to lose weight, just add less maple syrup to the lemonade, as the maple syrup is just to provide your body with calories/energy. congrats on sticking it out, you will feel better at the end of it all, i promise!

Hello fellow MCers! I am on day 8 (no, it's 1AM, so starting day 9!). I have lost 12 pounds on this cleanse, but I am still waiting for the rush of energy to arrive! I had intended to join a gym last week after seeing how my digestive system rsponded to the SWF's and the Smooth Move, but I still haven't really felt up to it. My legs and butt ache when I'm in bed...could this be de-tox symptoms? Also, I had started to lose some stiffness in my neck around day 4, but it's now back worse than ever. What do you think, more de-tox?
This BB is great! I've also been a lurker!

Do you mind stating your age and/ or if you ever have had any professional diagnosis concerning your pains and stiffness? I am 57 and have had climate related arthritis that is greatly alleviated when I cleanse, although while cleansing, some days the pain seems to be worse for short periods, and yes, I personally connect this with detox. It's amazing how much mucus the body accumulates, even if one lives a healthy lifestyle; a little may be necessary for lubrication ( the jury is still out on that one), but most mucus is junk, sometimes simply a carrier for toxins, that can be expelled incredibly by this cleanse.

Hi Peter,
This is my first attempt ever at detoxifying. I am on day three of the MC. However, last night I started experiencing MAJOR lower back pain/discomfort that sits at the top of my deriere. So I decided to stretch before bed. The pain did not go away instead it lasted through the night. I awoke this morning with the same discomfort so I went for a walk to loosen up my back. The pain subsided for a little while however, it has returned again this evening with a vengence. It's unfcomfortable to walk, sit or lay down. Is this normal? If so, how long does it last? I haven't done anything different in my daily routine that would aggrivate my back this way. The only change I have made is to begin the MC. Does this mean that my kidneys are detoxifying? Please help. I don't want to sound like a pansey but this hurts and I don't know how long I can endure the pain. Thanks if advance.

Today is day 2 of my official cleanse and am freezing my tail off! I cannot get warm. I had done an epsom salt bath soak to sweat for toxin release through the skin, and maybe that was a bit radical at this stage of the game?
This is the second cleanse that I have done, only the first one last fall was with veg juicing for 10 days. Am anxious to see how I feel after this one.
Have a nice day everyone. E.L.

someone here posted about BLOOD PRESSURE but there wan't a response and I'm concerned.
it hadn't occured to me, that that could be a danger. I've always had low blood pressure. sometimes, too low. I'm really healthy. I remember it had been a concern for me when I drank and wasn't taking care of myself. but it's been normally low.
could the MC be wrong for me? would this lower my blood pressure too much b/c I don't have minerals coming in and having the flushes take everything out?
just wondering.
I would hate to ask a doctor anything b/c they won't understand the cleanse and scare me away from it.

Wow. I'm having the weirdest joint pain. At first I questioned if it was detox, but now I know it must be. This dull ache just drills deep to the bone and then sends pingers of pain radiating from my joints. It's different than any other pain I've had.
It was just my hips, but now I feel it starting in my right knee. I hope it goes away with tomorrow's salt water flush. This hurts...but it could be worse.
I don't have a problem viewing this as a milestone. I just wish I had confirmation that's what it was, so I stop worrying about it.
I'm on Day 5, but I'm thinking I may have slowed myself down a bit by skipping the swf two days and not replacing it with the tea. I really thought it would be fine going every other day, as I was still having morning eliminations. Even with the SWF, I only have eliminations in the morning. Nothing else throughout the day.
Should I do the SWF in the am and try an extra dose of the tea during the day?

Hello sweetcorn -
Congrats on keeping wth the cleanse even wth that joint pain! i have had some severe detoc pain myself so i know how you feel . . . yes, i do think it is detox.
Drink lots more water - that will help.
*And* if i were you, wld definitely do the SWF in the am (and the laxative tea tonight) .
No matter what, the SWF is very *efficient* at sweeping toxins from the system!
For now, hot and cold compresses to your joint(s) might help some or even a topical ointment (like Arnica, Icey/Hot,etc.)
Hope this helps.

Thanks ladydee. I am definitely sticking with the swf. I could feel that I needed it when I skipped it. I got up late today, got down half of it, realized it was too late to try more. I hope it still works. I held off on drinking a glass of water so as not to affect the ratio of salt to water going through me.
I'm going to do the tea this morning too as I feel I need to ensure that I eliminate all those toxins from yesterday. Think that's okay?
I hope today is a better day. Day 6 for me. And for the record, I usually drink 8 glass a day - yesterday I drank 12. I was just craving food so bad. Wow. That may explain the intensity of my detox symptoms.

Oh man, I don't know if I'm gonna make it. The joint pain pingers are starting again, and it hurts so bad. I feel like I'm in such heavy detox for day 6...I'm going to have to leave work. I'm just going to chew my face off. I thought it says symptoms are supposed to go away the next day after eliminations.
I get hungry and have cravings for what I don't even know, but now I can't drink the lemonade. Every sip I take of the lemonade makes the pain increase. It's like it's not working now because it's triggering too intense detox...I know. Drink water, right? That's what I'll do. And no more than 6 glasses of lemonade a day maybe - I've had 3 today already. I'm having a rough day.
Ughhhh...and mucous, I'm choking up foam. I'm such a mess today. I wonder why Days 1-5 were easier for me, and now I'm falling apart. I don't get it. Technically I guess this is Day 7 for me since I started the fast w/lemonade on Friday. Maybe it's the bad day 7 Peter talked about.
Is this something specific I'm having a hard time detoxing on?

This is my first cleanse and I'm on Day 6. It is going well; however, I'm concerned about low back pain which I've not had before. I'm also not getting a fast response from the SWF. I thought it was supposed to work in about an hour. It has been two hours, and nothing has happened. I've done this every other day...and each time it takes quite a while for an elimination. I'm 6 feet tall and 200 pounds.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Deb Z,
About 10 - 20 minutes after you finish the SWF, start rubbing, kneading, pushing, squeezing, and massaging your entire abdomen, stomach and intestines. If you do it vigorously enough, you'll feel and hear some gurgling - that means you got it moving!
Keep doing that until you get the "urge," then go sit on the bowl and keep doing it until it's out!
Works like a charm! ;D

Is it possible to not drink enough lemonade to inspire the detox? Early in this thread, Peter said to drink 1oz for every 2 lbs of body weight. I definitely have not been drinking that much and I've been using less maple syrup because it's too sweet for me. But other than mad cravings, and some nausea on day 2, I haven't felt much detoxing.
Also, another random question. I had a very violent bout of stomach flu two weeks ago where I basically threw up and had diarrhea for two days and felt pretty cleaned out by the end. Would something like that effect the amount of sludge I have to eliminate now? I'm on day 4 and besides a middle of the night episode, I don't seem to have much to eliminate today. (I've done the tea and SWF every day as recommended.)
Thanks a lot.

False alarm. As for my last post, I was clearly uninformed. There's still stuff coming out. Yikes.
And today I have a red bumpy area on my face around my nose and chin. Lately this has been a red area on my face and I use extra moisturizer there thinking it was just dry skin in winter. But now I'm thinking maybe it's detox. Or rather with detox, I could get rid of it. That's just great.
One question for you all though. I'm really keen on doing a liver cleanse because that's a problem area for me. Is it safe to do it during the MC? Will it mess with my detoxing or help it along?
I'm just finishing Day 7. I'd like to do it maybe on the night of Day 9 and then decide if I want to go beyond the 10 days. Thoughts?
Thanks so much. This board is fantastic.

Hi LUinLA, :)
Burroughs says the Master Cleanse will also cleanse the liver. (By the way, that's where all that yellow liquid comes from...liver bile. :o)
Don't change anything on the Master Cleanse and you'll get some liver cleansing. Afterwards, if you want to try a liver cleanse go ahead, but don't add anything to the Master Cleanse itself. That way you'll get the best results. ;)

Is it possible to continue the cleansing and detoxing after you've stopped fasting? I read somewhere that someone came down with a bad cold that felt like detox right on a day that should be a heavy detox day if he had stayed on the diet. That's what happened to me. On what would have been days 15 and 16 I've had a horrible sore throat, huge swollen glands and full aches all over. Today, they feel better. I've been eating for 5 days pretty normally, mostly raw. Could the cold be related, after the fact?

Personally, I found it to be rather uncomfortable to drink too much of the lemonade once I started eating again. I would start to feel detox symptoms, and they just didn't go away - like I was mobilizing little bits of toxins (but not enough) and reasorbing them each time I ate.
I don't know if that's what was really happening, but in comparison to the cleanse...it just made me want to do another cleanse.
I bet that you could do something like that toward the end of each day, though. Replace evening snacking w/the lemonade and it would help along the natural process of the body. Let the lemon and cayenne work overnight a little, and then your body would naturally eliminate them in the am...perhaps time your 2nd probiotic dose in the evening?

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood what you were asking...I'm sure that could have been continuation of the detox. I had ongoing symptoms for about the same length of time although they were different.
However, I suppose it could have also been a reaction of your body to a mild food allergy you re-introduced into your system.
Were you taking probiotics by the way?

Help! I feel absolutely awful and I'm thinking I need to go back on the cleanse. I finished 11 days on 4/12.
Now, a week later, I have a miserable sore throat that feels like bronchitis coming on, random body aches and fevers where my skin literally feels on fire, my entire face is broken out, and I feel awful. To add insult to injury, I went to Mexico last weekend and picked up a parasite according to my homeopath which I'm sure was because my colon was so vulnerable. I have been taking probiotics, but since I got back from mexico, they only make my belly swell up and it sounds like a war is being fought.
I definitely felt like I could have stayed on the cleanse for another week. Should I go back on it? Or is it too soon?
Help! I feel awful and feel like any benefits I got from the cleanse are now being reversed.
Thanks.

Hey Peter and all my fellow detoxing buddies. I'm newbie to the lemonade diet and the website. It's actually my 2nd time trying this in the last month. The first time i tried it I did pretty well the 1st two days but by the second my "woman friend" was in town and I felt really weak so i broke the fast. Now I'm trying again, not only to detox my system but also 'cause i want to lose some weight before May 20th, which is my groups next performance. I'm in a R&B girl group named Leidi (lady) and we have numerous shows coming up. I'm trying to lose weight and have been for a long time but it's sooooo hard when food is your drug of choice. Yup...i love it....i have no other addictions except for food...so i'm hoping this diet will help rid me of some cravings. BUT>...i'm having a really tough time today...my head is killing me...I have no energy and i'm extremely hungry. Now I know these are all detox symptoms so I keep telling myself to hang in there....I only have until next wed to beat my 10day mark. GOD HELP ME!!!! I hope you all can help encourage me...i sure need it...i have some sunflower seeds sitting on my desk at work that look like steak to me right now. I won't eat them...I WONT!! Any comments....Peter...any advice????

I fully understand what you mean. I am on day 6 and believe me on day 3 I did not feel as if I was going to make it. I broke down and had some broth and globe grapes but quite honestly after I had done it I felt at bit dissapointed in myself, but I forgave myself and stayed true since then. The bowel movement that I had on day 3 was very encouraging to me as I saw an unbelivable amount of gunk leave my intestines. I knew right then that I had to remain true. Right now my abdomen is so flat and my body feels amazingly good. Its a feeling that makes you want to stay on the cleanse for a long time for fear of getting your insides dirty again.
You can do this!!

I'm on day 3 of my 1st cleanse. A few years ago a mole/freckle on my upper thigh appeared. I noticed it becaused it was itching. It was pretty much flat. It was odd shaped on kind of red. my doctor said it was not skin cancer. Well, last night taking a shower, forgetting about it being there, when I ran my hand down my leg while washing I felt something. I thought it was just something stuck to my leg, tried to scratch it off, but it didn't come off and hurt. Then I realized it was that mole that is now raised and sensitive. I'm pretty sure it's being cleansed, but wouldn't mind a little reassurance. My hubby thinks it's turned to melanoma.
Thanks for any help I can get!

I would certainly say that what you are experiencing is a result of the cleanse. I teach alternative health, more specifically I teach about the lymphatic system. I would not be alarmed but if it would make you more comfortable then perhaps you should have it checked out. When cleansing the body will push things to the surface. Right now my eyes are ichy especially in the mornings but I know thats yeast. My nose is also runny in the mornings and sometimes during the day.
This is such a great cleanse! This is my first time. Well I know that you have done this before so I am sure that you will do well!

Hey there fellow Cleansers,
I have been reading this board for a few days now, and this is my first post. I'm on Day 6 of my first MC, and things have been going quite well, overall. Sometimes I have this incredible mental clarity, and sometimes (more often) I feel tired and hazy. I guess these are the cycles of detox. Most of my detox symptoms have been pretty mild (general tiredness, acne on chin, furry tongue), but there is one that is NOT -- HOT BMs! Man do they hurt. I have had them every day since Day 2. The BMs in the morning from the lax tea and SWF aren't hot at all. The HOT ones happen in the early evening into the night, apparently spontaneously. I'm beginning to be concerned about the inside of my bowels. I understand that the "hot" sensation is due to acidic toxins leaving the body, and I'm thinking if it's that painful coming out, then what is it doing to the inside lining of my intestines? I wouldn't be concerned with a day or two of this, but 5 days and counting has me worried. Is there anyone out there who's done the MC before and had extended periods of HOT BMs? If so, how did you do after coming off the cleanse? Did your BMs return to normal, or did you have trouble? I really appreciate any feedback you can give. I fully intend to take a good probiotic after the MC, but if there's no internal lining for the little guys to hang on to it might not do much good. I don't mean to sound all doomsday, really for the most part I'm happy with how I'm doing. And if the HOT BMs turn out to be not a problem then I'm HAPPY they're happening since it means all those toxins are getting out of my system! I'm just looking for some reassurance. Thanks for any help you can give,
Kara

I have a question. I'm in the late morning of day three. Day one I started right in with the lemonade. In other words, I did not drink tea the night before or do the salt water flush the morning I started the cleanse. I drank tea at the end of the first day and did the salt water flush first thing in the morning on day two.
I have not had a solid bowel movement since starting the clease. The salt water flush goes right through me in liquid form only. Is this all normal?

Okay so Im on day 2 and have had a really intense headache (probibally because of lack of caffine) I have also felt very sick to my stomach, every time I think of drinking anything I want to throw up. Ive had a pretty bad sinus infections for a VERY long time and today I feel a lot of pressure adding to my headache and Im really dizzy. Is this normal detox symtoms??? Is this something to worry about, or normal for healing the sinus infection? I get migrains and a sinus headache will sometimes trigger one. Maybe that is whats going on. My eyes have also beem burning and itching since I started. Does someone know anything about any of this? Im contemplating ending the cleanse because Im getting worried, but I really dont want to. Any advise would be greatly apretiated!

I drank it all....in under 5 minutes..and after 1/2 hour had 1 elimination....and then, it seemed every 5 minutes i had more eliminations *watery*.....but then...it was weird...i threw up clear salt watery tasting fluid...is that normal??? And will it happen everytime i drink the salt water flush?

This is my second time trying the cleanse. The first time I quit on day three because of a stabbing back pain. I couldnt handle it. But I have to say that I didn't have the reaction of throwing up the salt water flush. In fact I have used it when not cleansing. Every body is different, but I imagine that you won't have that happen all the time.
Last night I thought that in preparation for today I would do a flush. It was a bad idea. Not much happened and I woke up swollen. I did the flush and tea this morning. Things are better. But I have a throbbing pain in my left shoulder. I scares me because it makes me feel like it could be a stroke or something. I have had it now for about three hours. Has anyone experienced this?

Day Eight. Everything was smooth sailing up until today and I was wondering what all the fuss was about from harsh detox symptoms. Well now I most certainly understand. I was up early and took a walk to watch the sunrise. Came back home and drank the saltwater and with the first elimination it was like a switch was thrown-intense lower back pain. So I'm still hours later hobbling around like an old farmer. I was a little concerned but read through this thread and I see that I'm not the only one to have experienced this symptom. Great site, very helpful and inspiring. Thanks.

Lovethegrunt- I am in the same situation as you and have been curious. I feel great and full of energy, mild cravings (hint do not watch TV, the commercials are making me crave food like taco Hell - stuff i never eat) - but I started the same way as you and am having the same reaction. Also, after this AM's elimination I have had nothing, and my belly is getting more and more swollen.....
Can anyone let us know if this is normal? Or if starting it a little off will make it not work? I'd rather know now, as I have to leave for mexico on Day 9 - so I plan to come off of it on day 8....

I'm on day 2 of my first cleanse. I have no energy. I have no appetite due to the massive migraine and the nausea. I only drank 4 glasses of limonade drink yesterday due to the nausea. I even felt nausea trying to drink water. I had to force the tea down this morning, and it seems I'm going to have to force the limonage drinks as well. I'm not HUNGRY with this Massive headache!
I really hope the caffeine withdrawel subside soon before I start summer school on monday.

Why does drinking water make the detox headaches worse?
This happens almost every MC. It's like the water is flooding a bunch of toxins and goes immedietly up to my head.. lol I swear..

I'm on day 5 and my biggest headache has been the headaches :D . It isn't an intense pain it's just a constant pressure pain. Around day 3 I had some joint pain and some pain in my jaw (I think I saw that someone else had jaw pain).
I'm also pretty weak and tired. I normally run, bike, and swim but I haven't been able to do anything. I wouldn't suggest the MC to anyone who has a very physical job. Luckily I'm a desk jockey so I'm OK.
My last symptom has been a weird taste in my mouth that won't go away. I think my breath has soured too. It's better when I keep drinking water, but when I go a little while without some My mouth becomes sour tasting.
Other than these little issues everything is going great. My goal is 14 days.

Hi everyone!
This is the end of my 3rd day, and I have mixed emotions about the whole detox process. On one hand, I said I was going to do this, and I want to follow through the whole 10 days (I WILL follow through, no matter what!). On the other hand, I'm tired, slightly irritable, cold (especially after drinking the lemonade), and I've had a headache every day. I have to laugh, though, because I got myself into this, and I'll get myself out of it by finishing. :D
I've read a lot of the posts on this site, and I'm glad to pick up the knowledge everyone has gained through experience. I'm counting down to day 11, when I can rid myself of the nasty cayenne pepper (it makes me gag at times) and eat tastier food. This cleanse is going to help me tremendously, putting me back onto that bandwagon of healthy eating...LOL. I can't say I'm enjoying things now, but this is only a minute portion of my life. I think I can handle it for 7 more days. ;)

pickle_jack -
try drinking more water or increasing your lemonade for the headaches. did you drink alot of caffeine before the cleanse because it might be withdrawal.
also increase MS if you're tired.
the taste in your mouth is normal.
Angela C -
the first 3 to 4 days are the hardest for most people. drink more lemonade and water and just keep smiling. you'll get thru this.
you are cold because your metabolism is so slow on the cleanse. take sweaters with you everywhere and drink hot tea or warm lemonade.
you don't have to always use cayenne or use alot. i started off with a pnch and moved up. also some days i mix some cayenne in water and take it like a shot then chase it with MS, tea or lemonade and then that's it for the day. I heard of some people having the cayenne on a spoon with MS made it easier to go down too.
best wishes both of you. it'll all be worth it.

Thanks for the encouragement, peanutterb. :) It's getting easier as the days go by. I figure if I've made it this far, there's no sense in giving up!
I'm using a little less cayenne pepper. I don't know if my taste buds are getting used to it, but it's not as bad as it was the first couple of days. Seeing the scale numbers go down and feeling better gives me all the motivation I need to keep using it.
Have a great day everyone! :D

I've had crazy unbelievable drainage from my sinus' and then it went to my lungs and I've been coughing up yellow and now clear thick mucous for days. PD symptoms have lessened drastically and I don't take any medicnes. My goal is to go on the Hallelujah Diet after detox.

I started the cleanse yesterday with my wife.. I had been home feeling a little sick and she mentioned we should do this. So me ran out bought all the ingredients and started without hesitation... We started the next morning and all day long I felt good about it.. then late in the afternoon daughter was hungry, coffee sounded good headaches started.. and doubts set in.. I went to bed with a bad headache and woke with bad headache. After having a cup os Senna tea ( which actually tasted good to me ) and drinking about a half gallon of water, I had two large movements within about half hour of each other... headache mostly all gone and feel pretty good. The thing I was amazed at was I have about 6 large cysts on my left arm , a couple on my right leg and a couple on my back. These cysts have been causing me concern and was probably the biggest kicker for me doing the cleanse.. Anyway on the second day the cysts actually seem to have shrunk some... and plan on sticking with the cleanse through any other issues just to see what may happen with the cysts. I have been very active with working out and bike riding and do not have the energy level right now to do much but from years of working out I know a few days or even weeks off will not hurt.
I do have a question --- my wife seems to be suffering more than I with the low energy issue. Also she does not like the MS in the drink much . Is there anything others have found that helps in the energy level besides adding more MS to the drink ? Any stretches -- any ideas would be appreciated...
You'll never know if you don't go ! So drink up and I am sure you will end up being happy you finished ! :D

Hi berto! I felt really bad yesterday (day 1) for about 2 hours. I dry-brushed my skin, took a hot shower and took a long nap. I drank a lot of water when I woke up (and shhhh - some green tea, just a little). I stumbled around for a while, but really started perking up when I started drinking water. I sipped on a big bottle of water all evening and my energy just kept rising, long after the tea wore off. That's just what I experienced. Just drinking plain water in between the lemonades seems to really help me.
May the force be with us ;)

Oh, about the MS. Dang! I love that stuff! But everyone is different. The Master Cleanser book says you can replace the water with fresh sugar cane juice, but also says fresh sugar cane juice is not generally available in the U.S. It also says a "lesser replacement could be pure sorghum. It does not produce equal or close to the benefits of maple syrup." And unfortunately, honey is a bad idea: "Honey must not be used at any time internally." So, that's what the book says. I don't know if anyone else has any ideas to give you.
That's good that the cysts are subsiding. Hang in there!

Jennifer , glad to hear things picked up for you there. Today is day three and I am feeling a bit better.. when I woke this morining had leg cramps but they soon disappeared. My wife seems to be handling the MS a bit better. She is cursing me as she has done other cleanses before and is doing this one only because she has heard so much about it and talked me into doing it... and feels bad about not doing it with me.. We have four kids three grown and moved out and the last one is 9.. I have been making her breakfast lunch and dinner the last couple of days and I have been impressed with my will power not to sample.... Today I am out in the garden picking and making some sauce and soup and freezing it all .. We are still waiting for the books to arrive so I can read up more on everything and don't have to ask so many questions... ;-) Take care !

Thanks for answering, Berto! You sound great, upbeat. I have two teenage boys and have managed to cook for them. I have to say afternoons are rough for me. I have a sharp headache. I thought a nap would help, but it's still here. Your family sounds fun! Being out in the garden picking and cooking sounds lovely. I'm glad you're still going. They say the results are worth it. The book is a good resource to have. I don't know much, but I'm happy to share whatever I know. Talk to you soon!:)

Hi there,
I am not sure what is going on with me, as I am reading all these simptoms of the detox, I do not seem to have a few of them. I do not have any cravings, just extreme hunger. I get up hungry and go to sleep hungry. This is the evening of day 5 for me. I do have the white thoungue, I am feeling very, very weak, and my vision as I am typing now and looking around seems to be quite blury. Also I seem to not be able to contentrate. So, all this to ask anyone out there is these are simptoms of the detox, or just the fact that I have gone without food for almost over 5 days. But I do not have the muscle aches, or back aches or cravings. Thanks for your help.

Hi Twinckle! This is probably a question for someone who has more experience than I do. But I just wanted to say I feel sort of woozy, too, especially when I try to concentrate on something like reading or typing. And I think that unless we're are dangerously underweight, going for 10 days without solid food should not be a problem. The maple syrup has lots of calories. That's how I've been thinking about it. But, like I said, I don't have a lot of experience with this. This is my second time trying it and this time I'm doing pretty good. I'm on day 3 and feeling good. I have the usual tiredness at times, headaches, funky tongue, food cravings and wooziness, but all in all, I feel better than I have for a very long time.
Take care!

hey Twincklecori,
detox symptoms are different for everybody. yours are feeling weak, your vision and the inability to concentrate. Increase your MS intake to help with the weak feeling. As for vision and concentrating, hopefully those get better over the cleanse. I felt like I had ADD my first week on the cleanse, I couldn't get one task completed but by day 10ish I was super focused.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I am on day 4. I have no cravings, but have had extreme hunger since I started. I have had back aches too. I am miserable and my tongue has not turned white yet. I just want to eat. I don't see how so many people can have so much energy and not be hungry. I am drinking more than enough lemonade-I started with 6 glasses, the first day, then 8 the next, now 10. It just isn't enough. Even that doesn't make my hunger go away. Since you are a few days ahead of me, how are things going for you now?

I am on my first day, and have had post nasal drip in the past. Yesterday I had not officially started, but I did make a couple of the drinks just to get used to the taste. Last night I also had the laxative tea. In bed I could feel the post nasal drip.
Also I notice the glands in my throat are a swelled a little. I have aslight headache, but its not too bad.

I have those too. Those white things are calls tonsiliths, or tonsil stones. They are wretched!!! I get those once in awhile when I'm not on the MC. They are caused by post nasal drip hardening in the back of your throat. I have noticed I am getting post nasal drip on the MC. I'm not sure if its a part of the cleanse, or if it is just happening because of the cayenne pepper, or just not eating. I'm only on Day 1, and I noticed this.
If I were you, I would reach back and scrap those gross tonsil stones off your tonsil! They make me want to get my tonsils removed!

it's definitely part of the cleanse. the lemon and cayenne are clearing up mucus and moving it out.
during my first MC i had a wicked sinus infection and since then, haven't had not even a snuffy nose.
Look for herbal remedies and non-ingesting remedies as well. i posted a bunch on another thread if i can find it i'll repost it.

Hi, this is my first time on the cleanse and i'm on my 6th day. I've started getting frequent numbness in my hands and feet...is this normal or something I should worry about? What can I do to help it?
peanutterb
August 20th, 2006, 12:37 PM
hey emily,
do you think the numbness could be because you're cold? because i often lose a toe or two while on the cleanse because i'm freezing. i wore wool socks and gloves at my office thru out my cleanse because i was so cold. maybe that will help.
emily
August 20th, 2006, 01:40 PM
no, it happens all the time whether cold or not...
and unfortunately this morning things got worse, I got out of bed early to let my dogs out and barely made it back to my room, my heart was pounding in my head and i felt like i was going to pass out. I layed in my bed for an hour and my heart kept pounding and i couldn't move. My roommate brought me some grapefruit juice, i had two sips and i threw it up shortly after. I felt better after that and went back to sleep and now i feel fine. Do you think i just had some sort of bug in my stomach? I'm pretty sure i'm going to stop the fast today cause i don't want that to happen again- i felt like i was going to die. But do you have any ideas what may have caused this?
peanutterb
August 20th, 2006, 03:07 PM
no ideas. hmmm. that's so weird. sorry you feeling badly.
have you tried drinking more lemonade? with more ms?
i donno what to tell you really... sounds like some serious detox but i don't want you to keep feeling badly you know. it's easy for me to say "oh it's detox just keep going" when i'm not the one going thru it. granted i had my share of struggles during my first cleanse, i know that everyone's pain threshold is different. so you do what feels right for you. just make sure you drink fresh squeezed orange juice for at least a day, then homemade veg broth and break the fast properly so you don't get any additional discomfort. Feel better.

thanks for the advice peanutterb. Yeah i thought it was pretty weird too, I guess it could have been detoxing syptoms but i really havn't had any serious ones til today. I was begining to think maybe it wasn't working or i'm just not that unhealthy because i've felt fine the whole time. I guess i'll just see how i feel the rest of today. I really want to finish the ten days...but i don't want to hurt myself.
bayareababe- I've never had blood pressure problems before, i'm only 21 and never have had any health issues besides a bit of anemia when i was 16. If there was a problem with it what could they do? If i end the fast shouldn't that get me back to normal?

The first time I tried the cleanse, I went 4.5 days before blowing it. But those 4.5 days were symptom free. I started over from Day One and Day Three (yesterday) was a bad detox day. I had a horrible headache and bad nausea most of the PM. I was scared to drink any lemonade for fear it would make me vomit. I forced half a glass down around 10 PM and, sure enough, I threw up large amounts of bile. But then I felt significantly better. Today I skipped the SWF in lieu of an AM cup of Get Regular.
The good news is that while I still have some arthritis pain, the nodules on my fingers (which aren't supposed to hurt but do) are shrinking. :)

So, irritability is supposed to be a detox symptom. Here's something interesting. About an hour ago I started getting irritated about something in particular. I'm now whipped into quite a lather about it.
This thing happened three years ago and it's been about that long since I've in any way associated with the individuals involved. I'm not even sure what reminded me of it.

August 23rd, 2006, 02:46 PM
Hi Angela, yes it does happen on this cleanse. Try some peppermint tea to settle the stomach and help the breath. What I have found is a product, TheraBreath. You can get the mouth rinse, toothpaste and oral spray at walgreens and some rite aids or on the internet. Its a bit pricey but well worth it. I have had sinus problems forever and it helps my breath knock it off. On this cleanse when it got a little nastier, my bf would tell me, i'd brush, gargle or spray and it was all OK :) Hope this helps

Eeek! Hey everybody, I just had to post. I'm on Day 4 of the cleanse. I was sitting here watching TV a few minutes ago and reached up to touch my face. There are raised bumps ALL OVER my face. When I looked in the mirror I saw that the bumps are the color of my skin (i.e. aren't red) by they are everywhere. I know that when detoxing stuff comes out of our pores but has anyone had their entire face covered with bumps? Thank God they aren't red....yet *crosses fingers* Should I be concerned? About an hour ago I drank 32 oz. of the lemonade very quickly. Do you think that made a difference?
UPDATE: It's 7 AM the next morning and the bumps are still here :-( Does anyone have any experience with this?

hi hillcountry, that happened to me too and it went away with an increase in drinking water. Is your SWF with the right ratios? Drinking filtered, purified or spring water?
What I do is drink one glass of lemon drink, then one glass of water, to make sure I am getting enough water and to help rinse the mouth of citric acid.
Let me know how things go.

hillcountry, i find sometimes the swf makes me retain water anyway. i saw that from switching up the swf and the tea in the a.m. my ring would just slide off my finger on the days i did the tea but on the days i did the swf i had to pull it off.
no worries though, once you stop the cleanse, your body will balance out and you'll be surprised by how much weight you really lost as well as how awesomely amazing you feel.
keep going strong. and make sure you drink enough water.

Grrrr...Detox symptoms...Im trying not to hate them. I would love to say that I'm starving...But I know Im just having major cravings. Im obsessed with food. Can't get my mind off of bad food. And everyone I know is pigging out on this horrible stuff.
Also, I keep having nightmares every night. Night one I drempt of a co-worker who I have issues with. Night two my dream brought up old feuds with my parents. Night three I drempt that I ate pizza and halfway through the slice I remembered that I wasnt supposed to eat. Then I wake up all frazzled.
The cravings get slightly better after my morning eliminations, but come back within a couple hours. Grrrrrrrrr......

I had a fairly uneventful 16 days on the MC. Suddenly, today, on day 17, my eyes feel like burning hellfire, my nose is running, my head spinning, I can barely keep my eyes open. I'm just about ready to head to an emergency room. This just when I had to come in to work and function well. My face has broken out in red. I feel like I'm about to lose consciousness.
The only thing I did differently today is I got some organic lemons at a different shop from usual, and used a different maple syrup. Also, last night I fell asleep before taking the Smooth Move tea, but I did the SWF this morning and had several eliminations. Can this really be detox? Feels like a severe allergic reaction. Don't know what to do.

hey Kallie,
the cravings will pass. stay strong. you can do it. food will be there when you're done. people who eat suck. you can tell them i said that.
as for dreams, i don't know why, but they come with the territory. on my last cleanse i dreamt i ate something by accident every single night. on the one before i dreamt about it raining oranges. not as fun as it sounds folks.
don't worry, you'll be fine. it'll pass. just keep swimming.
Cleen1,
sounds like detox sorry to say. could be the random switch and lack of laxing, but I'd assume detox first. there's no telling when itt's going to come or how it's going to come. but be thankful these things are getting themselves out of you asap. i always tell this story but on my first cleanse i had a wicked sinus infection on my day 8 (two days before I was supposed to stop!) and I ended up going until day 13 when I felt significantly better and I don't regret it at all. I haven't had a sinus infection or sinus problems since.
So give it a few days, 2 or 3 and if it doesn't get better then see what happens. I know easier said than done, but you've made it so far and I know you can do this!

Kallie,
I had to laugh! I've had very vivid nightmares for the first 3 nights of my cleanse, too. But last night I had a good sleep. Whew! On my 3rd night, I dreamt about eating at a banquet, then remembered in my dream that I wasn't supposed to eat and was so sad that I'd broken my fast. Then went to a big wedding reception where all sorts of yummy desserts were served (still dreaming). I got a big slice of ice cream cake (my favorite), then someone walked up and took it out of my hand and starting eating it b4 I ever got one bite! Boy, was I steamed ... until I woke up and realized I hadn't cheated at all. Then I had a good laugh. The night before, one of my old bosses was trying to murder me. Hmmm... I was really glad to have one night of peace after 3 nights of nightmares! I hope you'll have the same.
I'm so glad I made it to Day 4. Every other day, I've had wicked headaches about this time of night (9pm) along with nausea. It lasts until after my SWF the next morning. But today, just lots of good energy. I haven't had cravings too bad during the day, just in my dreams! So I feel lucky. I plan to make it at least 10 days, hopefully more as long as my body needs more. I'm proud of myself making it just this far!:)
Question: Has anyone done this while traveling? I have to make a business trip that starts on Day 9, (4 days long) so I plan to pack all my stuff to continue the MC while I'm gone. Don't want to go off it until I get home. I figure I can work during the day - with my lemonade in tow, then excuse myself at night for the dinners and just go to my hotel. Not sure how this is going to work. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks to all for posting. Love the support and all the stories. Peanutterb and Res and all the other experts, you're great! You've kept me going. Thanks.

Hello all,
I survived the night. Yesterday was incredible: my eyes were like burning coals soaked in battery acid, or like rings of evil forged in the fires of mordor. I felt like a vampire who screeches at the daylight. I spent most of the day with my eyes closed. Homeopathic eyedrops did nothing. A fierce headache too. Strange things were happening to my brain and my face was contorting. On top of that, I have a cold/flu. I had to endure this on two four-hour train rides to work and back (because I'm out of town w/ my family for the weekend). Frankly, the only thing that kept me from freaking out is having read on this and similar forums that this is detox. A warm bath when I got home helped enormously. Unfortunately, was out of spring water and had to use brita filter for the night, which gave me lots of gas. I didn't sleep well so I decided at 5:30 to go ahead and do an SWF to get the evil out. Plus, the smooth move the night before helped that. Then took another bath, went back to bed, and now feel a little better. My eyes are not burning so much. Was ready to go off the MC today but feel like I'd better go one more day or two. The problem is, if anything like this happens to me again at work next week (I'm a teacher), I'm doomed. Since it takes a few days to go back on food, I'd better start the transition on Mon at the latest, which will be day 20. I have a feeling that whatever toxins came out yesterday had to do with my knees. I've had bad knees for 20 years, since a minor ski accident as a youth. They crack a lot; they're stiff. Today, however, they feel smooth and rejuvinated. Back when I had the injury, a dr. told me to take massive amounts of aspirin. Maybe that was lodged in the joints somewhere, or the advil I was taking for carpal tunnel pain. Who knows? Looking back, Mon/Tues I was in a foul mood, Wed/Thurs was run down, Friday the "concentrated evil" (to quote Time Bandits) surfaced. It makes sense as a progression of detox this week. My tongue is no longer yellow--a little white still, but the edges are pinkish/reddish. It doesn't feel as coated, but it's not done yet. Would love to go 30 days and see what else shows up, but my stressful job begins next week and I can't handle it. By the way, drinking a lot of water (not lemonade) helped, although I still had about 8 cups of lemonade yesterday.
One other thing: I posted earlier asking about missing things like pizza, burgers, etc., asking if we didn't miss them just because they're delicious. I'm not big into junk food at all, but I do like pizza. Anyway, on the train home last night, the guy next to me got on his cell and ordered "a large pizza with peperoni on half of it" to pick up once he got off. For the first time, that sounded disgusting to me.
(But I'll still like pizza in the end...)

hey cleen1
big ~*HUG*~
sounds like you've been having heavy detox.
i definitely think it's a good idea you go on for a few more days.
i'm also going to put in 2 cents about your stressful teaching job - i find that being on the cleanse helped me deal with stress alot better. my car got stolen and i just shrugged and dealt with it. whereas if i think i wasn't on the cleanse it would've been different. people at work have commented that i was nicer back when i was doing the cleanse too. lol. i hate them all.
but that is just something for you to think about.
also, breaking the cleanse - that first day of OJ can be rough, plus you kinda go thru lemonade withdrawal so maybe waiting til the weekend might be better, if that's an option for you.
It's your body, your time, your decision though. Just giving you a diff point of views and nudging you to make it to 30 :) I say if you want to do it, go for it and plus it sounds like staying past day 10 has been good for you seeing that you've detoxed so much.
But as I always say, do what's best for you.
On the cleanse I crave things I don't usually eat. Like pizza and burgers and cheese. But by the end I get over it too. The weirdest thing I've ever craved was prunes and since finishing my last cleanse I've eaten at least 5 prunes a day. so random.
p.s. i felt bad for laughing at your first paragraph describing your hardships but it was hilarious. a vampire in daylight! so descriptive. I loved it!

Thanks peanutter for the hug (needed). My family certainly doesn't get it. And they're ordering pizza tonight! Also, thanks for the advice about saving the transition for the weekend. I thought of actually starting tomorrow, Mon, since I don't have to teach till Wed. However, your nudge might make me go another week. I too think I'm probably nicer now after detoxing. :D

if you do the swf and make sure you give yourself enough time to get it all out in the morning, you should be ok. the only thing is having to pee tho. while on the cleanse you're going to pee more than a pregnant woman.

Had very dry, flaky skin for a few days on my face. This morning after a bath, it just rubbed off and the skin is smooth and clear underneath.
My tongue develops these unattractive sores and deformations on or near the edges where it's turning pink. On some I can see the blood just below the surface, but they seem to go away after a while.

Almost every detox symptom is normal in one way or another. Usually if you don't experience it while off the cleanse it's detox.
I'm really proud of everyone who pushes through the symptoms to get to their goal. It's not easy but it's worth it! :D

Hey HealthyBiz: I was out of town all weekend, so pardon the late reply...Im glad to hear others have the crazy dreams as well! On the traveling, I just went on a trip this weekend, and can share tips with you. It depends if you're driving or flying. Flying, I think would be pretty darn hard to stay on the cleanse. But driving is definetly do-able. I had a 6 hour drive to my destination. I had to work Friday and drank 5 lemonades during the day. Then, I made up two 32 oz bottles of lemonade for the trip. (I accidentally mis-counted and ended up drinking 13 lemonades that day...oops!) If you have the nice little insulated bag sold on this site, it makes for a nice trip. I put my drinks in the freezer so they were nice and slushy, and they stayed cold for the trip. I made sure to bring all the water, lemons, cayenne, maple syrup, salt, and teas that I would need for the weekend. My friend that I stayed with was pretty understanding about me making lemonade everyday. That is my $.02. Hope it helps!
Happy Juicing!

Hi Kallie,
Great to hear from you! Thanks for sharing your story. I was beginning to believe no one travels while on the cleanse, but there you were off on an adventure. ;) I leave tomorrow and probably won't check e-mail while I'm gone. Yep, I'm flying. I won't have a car when I get there, so I'm packing water, too, plus lemons, cayenne, sea salt and my citrus juicer. Oh, and my measuring spoons, too, of course! Good thing I've had time to plan and think about this. I'll be in San Francisco and will have to miss out on all the yummy SF food. However, if my bag gets lost in transit, nope, not going there. Everything will go well and I'll stick to the cleanse while there. Right? I'm just a little nervous about this.
Hey, I love the tip about freezing the lemonade so it will be slushy and fresh for the trip. I would have never thought of that on my own. Never. Next car trip I take, or if I have to make a batch ahead of time, I'll try it.
About Detox symptoms, I have been so lucky. Nothing unmanageable, but I was close to losing the SWF before it could work thru my system this morning *Day 8*. I've also had some joint and nerve pain return. Being free from it for the last few days has been a godsend though. Today is the first day I've been cold, Brrrr..., good thing it's almost 100 here today. I just leave the A/C off and I'm fine! LOL I've also been pretty tired, but so calm. I was verbally attacked in a meeting today and I just stood my ground, and explained why she was wrong. Nothing is rattling me these days and I've had lots of stressful stuff pop up. So that makes the Detox symptoms pretty easy to live with.
BTW, I'm starting to miss the vivid dreams a bit. They were scary, but entertaining! *LOL* :D

hi Rachel Honey,
Yup, all typical detox symptoms. Go to bed, if you can afford to today, and certainly don't work any longer than you need to. When I'm tired on the MC, I'm amazed at how quickly I can drop off to sleep. Even a 1/2 hour nap when I can grab one helps make me feel better.

I was so tired last night but I'm feeling much better today, just really cold. Still, today is not going to be easy; at least at work I can avoid food but I'm going over to my BF's mum's farm today & there's always something yummy to eat there. :( I should be able to distract myself from the food though, she got a new puppy yesterday so I can play with him all day :)

A little digression: I had to go shopping today and had to rethink my way through the food aisles. I found myself thinking, "Mmmm... when I go off the cleanse, I can have that... and that..." Instead I had to force myself to realize a lot of what I'm looking at has very little nutritional value and qualifies as a poison in my body. Even if it's got some nutritional value, if it's packaged or canned, it's dead, not living food. So I went thru the store, saying instead, "When I go off the cleanse, I can have just a little bit of that poison. Or when I go off the cleanse, I can have a little of that dead stuff." It's starting to work. I'm trying to reprogram 50 years of thinking about food. One good thing to do on the cleanse. I'm counting that as a treat in itself (for me)! I realize that will be too harsh for some.
Breathe in that fresh farm air while you're there!:)

Hi Healthy Biz,
The puppy was such a treat...he is adorable & he totally kept my mind off of food while I was with him.
I had to go to the supermarket too: I went to help my boyfriends mum do her shopping & also to get more lemons. It wasn't easy, my stomach did cartwheels when I saw her put a raspberry cheesecake in the shopping trolley:( . I get what you mean about trying to reprogram the way you think about food; I went to pick up some canellini beans for my post MC broth & I felt disgusted to realise that the canned beans I usually get (nice & simple) are packed in sugar & salt :( so now I'll have to soak dried ones overnight but at least I'm more aware of what's in the food I'm going to be eating :)

Rachel,
Glad to hear you're holding up! Mmmm...raspberry cheesecake...my mouth is watering and I haven't even seen it!:o Every now and then I'm tempted to just put one almond in my mouth, slowly chew it up then spit it out. I rationalize, 'it won't count then,' but I know better. I'll probably swallow just a little and then will have to start the days' count over at 1:( . Definitely don't want to do that. It's not worth it. So far, have been able to manage my hunger and cravings. So far, it's only gotten bad for about an hour at a time, so I know it will pass.
My detox symptom last night was RLS (restless leg syndrome). I only get that now and then. I've had it since I was a teenager, but it has gotten worse in the last few years. I have to get up and exercise to relieve the stress in the muscles. So, not much sleep last night. But... I'm hoping that means that whatever's been causing this is working itself out of my body. That's worth suffering thru lots of detox symptoms now, so I'll have less trouble with it in the future! Right?:D
Day 19 and I'm still seeing new and different signs of detox.

That way you'll get the best results. ;)

Hi Jeep, those are most likely your kidneys detoxing. I know it has happened to me on each cleanse. I find taking a warm bath and a heating pad helps. Also drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins out.
hope this helps:)
You are going GREAT!

Hello all
I just purchased my MC kit for my first cleanse. I gotta tell you truthfully though, you are all scaring the heck out of me with these symptoms. I have questions as any newbie would so if you could please bear with me and answer them I would appreciate it.
I have thyroid disease and I am on medication for it. Will the cleanse mess up my medications?
Also what does this do for birth control? Does it mess up your birth control?
I am a mother of 4, the youngest is 9 weeks old, and I am concerned about driving in a car with them or holding my little one. My fear is I will get dizzy. What are your suggestions.
Also it says to use spring water. That's bottled right?
Thanks everyone in advance I hope to make it 14 days on the cleanse. I know I will have more questions.

dylanangel, don't stress the detox symptoms too much. they're different for everyone. the most common ones are aches and pains, stuffiness or runny noses, tiredness, crankiness and cravings.
as for your meds, if they're prescribed, keep taking them. just take them after your swf is finished. if you usually take them with food, take them with a glass of lemonade.
same with your birthcontrol.
for dizziness, that only happens sometimes and mostly when i get up too quickly so no worries on that end. as long as you drink alot of water and enough lemonade - in the beginning, don't lessen your MS, you'll lose weight anyway, so don't worry, you need to make sure you keep your energy up and keep from being hungry. especially since you have little ones.
check out the link below for the general help for newbies thread. it should answer alot of your questions. start from page one and wade your way through it because it has tonnes of tips and advice and info on what to expect and how to do this cleanse.
yes to bottled spring water.

Hi dylanangel75 and WELCOME to the cleanse. Aw, don't let this scare you. You'll do great - and you know why? You've educated yourself first! That's the first important step that too many cleansers skip. Congratulations! for giving yourself a good headstart.:) Oh, and you've found this bulletin board where there is so much support for everyone.
I don't have thyroid disease, but folks who do need to take oral medications continue on during the cleanse and just take them AFTER the SWF in the morning. I'm also not on Birth control, so couldn't answer that question, but I think the answer would be the same. For more direct information about both of these, try out the 'For Women' post. I think you'll find more helpful information there!
About getting dizzy, you do need to watch out for that, but it doesn't come out of the blue. I've never had it happen when I'm driving; just when I bend over to reach the floor to pick something up (or yoga moves) and lift up too fast. You could be cautious when lifting a child out of a stroller by sitting down on a bench first. Or making accommodations some other way. I think 4kids would keep you pretty active during the cleanse.:D
Good luck and come back for support often. When do you plan to start?

Thank you so much peanutterb and HealthyBiz for the replies. I really appreciate the help and you have eased my worries. I will definatly check out the newbie section.
I plan on starting the cleanse 3 days after I get the kit. I want to kind of do a liquid start those first three days (soups and juices) so that I have not had any bad things in my system. I know that won't matter to much but every little bit helps. I think the good thing is that I got off sugar when I became pregnant with my last child because frankly it made me sick to eat the sweets. That is a huge plus when your pregnant. I was lucky enough to drop all the weight and then some that I gained while I was pregnant. I need to just drop these thyroid pounds that I gained before I was diagnosed. I also have always wanted to try vegetarian life styles so this will be a great start.
I will let you all know my first day and how I feel.

Yesterday I had some gum and mints, does that mean I interrupted my cleansing process and have to start all over again? This is my 6th day and I'm planning to go for 14.
And the cleansing process of this whole thing is great but my main reason for doing it is weight loss (please spare the lectures :P) but I haven't seen any except for like 1 or 2 lbs. When should I expect to see results?
Mrs.Squigs
October 11th, 2006, 01:49 PM
Hey Nat,
I think the problem with the gum and mints is that chewing on anything solid starts your digestive system and the whole purpose of the MC is not to do that. I don't think you have to start over though. I'll let a more experienced one chime in on that though.
As for weight loss, I'm doing it for the same thing (I know, I know. I don't want to hear about it from anyone). And I haven't seen any weight loss. It seems like with everything I read, there's a contradiction about whether you lose weight more quickly if you're more overweight to begin with, or if you're not. Follow that?? hahaha.
But like everyone will tell you, each person's experience is different and individual to them.
Also, a lot of people lose a lot of the weight near the end, or after they've stopped the fast. So long as they keep a healthy lifestyle.
Good luck!

Is using a self-tnner while you're cleansing okay? I know that as you detox much of the process is done through your skin. Seeing as how self-tanner is applied to the skin I wasn't sure if that would cause a bad reaction. Let me know,....

hi Mrs.....
I'd wait until after the cleanse if I were you. It's only a little bit of time out of your life, and then you can get all golden. Why put chemicals on your skin, when you are trying to get toxins out :)
Katrina1616
November 11th, 2006, 03:28 AM
Ya - make sure you read and check all of the ingredients in the self-tanners. Often they're full of nasty chemicals which react and make your skin darker. I would be cautious using them even when I'm not cleansing.

I'm nearing the end of my second day of cleansing, and I'm only seeing minimal detox symptoms. My tongue is slightly less pink than usual, and I have a little cramping, and my kidneys seem a little sore. But otherwise I feel great! The worst is just that I'm freezing all of the time - and all the snow outside doesn't help!
I'm worried that I'm not detoxing! I am drinking the 6 drinks a day, and measuring every ingredient, doing my entire SWF each morning.
Should I be worried?

I am at the end of day 30 and the last day of my fast. I had the goal of 30 days and I made it. Up to about 5 or 6 days ago I was feeling positively wonderful. It was important to me for spiritual reasons to make the 30 days so I have really been exercising discipline this last week. I feel really good about it, but I am having a difficult time understanding what is going on with me. I can't tell if I am in a potent detox, or if my body has just had it with no food. I am definitely experiencing real hunger. I am very sad and weak and tired. I have reasons to be sad, but that reason was there during the entire fast and I was handling it better. I read that it is not good to stop the fast when you don't feel well, but I simply cannot go another day. Also, I don't think I can endure feeling this cold any longer...I have become so frozen I can barely stand to walk around...I live in Minnesota and it is snowing today and damp. The lemonade has started to taste awful, so awful that I have to brush my teeth each time I drink it. And I am having nausea for the first time. The thought of more citrus from orange juice breaking the fast seems unplesant. I have a craving for pineapple juice and watermelon. But I want to do this right and follow the directions. Any ideas why I would feel this bad, this far into the fast? I plan to reintroduce food VERY slowly.

Hi all! I am starting the mc tomorrow and I have a particular fear about my detox. I read in the "loose weight, have more enengy..." book that if you took diet pills in the past, it can impact the detox process. I took diet pills on and off for the past 10 years (and plan never to take them again after this cleanse). Have any of you experienced detoxing after diet pill use? If so, what symptoms/effects do you feel you had? Thanks for the help! ;)

.. what a great post - Thanks, 'guest'! Haha, maybe you are in perfect health!
But seriously, folks, what happened with this guy? Why didn't get detox?

I have been reading stuff on curezone.com (Peter suggested looking there in one of his posts-unrelated to my questions) about Parasites, and Liver and Kidney cleanses after MC.
Q1: Does the MC cleanse Parasites out or do I need to do something else for that? Has anyone here done a Parasite cleanse?
Q2: Do I need to do a Liver and Kidney cleanse after the MC?
Haven't started yet...waiting on supply shipment and books, but have been voraciously reading everything posted here over the past 3 days. Just trying to get the most info accumulated to prepare and gear myself up for this. The Parasite thing has me a bit concerned. :(

Okay you guys, I just had the worst day of my life, last night in bed I just felt awful, felt like I was going to throw up and I had the worst headache, today after I drank the SWF I threw up, spent the whole day in bed with the headache that finally went away at about 6pm tonight, I am lucky I have off four days from work right now otherwise I would be in trouble! Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop this headache? Help!

Sorry you feel so badly Kelly. Check out the General Help for Newbies thread - it has natural, cleanse safe headache remedies.
Bebe - the mc doesn't get parasites, well maybe but not in the way that cleanses that specifically go after parasites do. you don't have to flush your kidneys and liver after, but you can if you want to.

Lay on your back and stiffen your fingers and dig them into your abdomen. Follow your intestines and colon direction in circular massage motions clockwise. Start on lower right, move up, then across, then down, following the structure of your colon. Likely you will find sore spots and what feels like blockages. Massage them out in the direction of elimination. This helps me tremendously.

I lasted 6 days on the MC....I know...not enough...(lost 8.5lbs...but 40lbs overweight)....but it felt like I had the flu...my body was very weak....lower back pain....headaches....chills....and I was wondering if it's because I only did the salt water flush every other day because of my schedule? Also, my last day was Dec. 10....how long do I have to wait before I start another one? I do believe that my body has been better since.....I don't have a craving for as much junk food as I used too....and I would like to try again. Thanks!!

alheim: Regarding "Guest's" post; Not everyone goes through hell on the cleanse detoxing. I've been on cleanses where I sailed through. I don't know why.
If people don't lose tons of weight it doesn't matter as far as the object of the cleanse is concerned. It's all about "health" and releasing toxins and giving your body a break from "food abuse". ;) *IF* you're overweight and doing the cleanse *correctly* (many people eat food along with the cleanse and wonder why nothing is happening - this is a reality) you WILL lose something. But more than that, you're going to FEEL FANTASTIC at the end of the cleanse.
Sometimes people lose "inches" before they lose weight. You'll notice your face seems thinner or your clothes fit better regardless of what the Evil Scale states. ;)
I've cleansed 11 times and I've always lost something and felt mostly FANTASTIC except for the detox days. :)

Has it ever been determined just what all that yellow stuff coming out is? I did 30 days late last year. When I started this one (day 9 today - goal - 40 days) I did not prepare in any special way..had a normal meal the night before. And within 12 hours I was releasing thick yellow goo that stained my skin and the toilet. Where was all that goo while I was eating normally for the last months? I know now that even though I did 30 days, I stopped at a bad time. I had felt wonderful on and off thru the whole fast until the last few days and I felt really awful when I quit. My body is rejoicing being back on the MC. I have had some serious illnesses of long duration and not eating and doing the MC is very soothing for me. So, just what is all that yellow stuff?
Res
January 10th, 2007, 03:36 PM
According to Peter it's stomach bile. If it's gooey, it's mucous. (I would never make it as a nurse. :o ) So you've got a gooey, mucousy stomach bile elimination.
It's interesting how what comes out is the same color as what's going in (with tiny variations and yet everyone reports almost the exact same thing). It has to be tied in somehow with what's going in - that's how my mind operates.
Anyone ready for a lemonade?

Hi Res, nice to "see" you again! Hmmm...so where was all that stuff while I was eating normally? And after doing 30 days back in Oct, why so much of it so soon? Could be that I lost the entire rt. lobe of my liver and my gall bladder to a tumor in 1998. The surgeon never said, but I think from 2+2 that they did some reconstructive surgery to get bile from the little liver that remained into my stomach. It's pretty strange in there I think. I lived, but until I did the MC, I was pretty sick in my GI tract all the time. I never did re-establish normal BMs after the last MC and they weren't that great anyway..had to take lax tea and fiber every day after the last MC. But I got such amazing overall results on the first MC that I was only too happy to start a new one. Day 9 and it just feels like normal life with lemonade.

I found that the longer I went, the more normal it felt to be fasting. I am going for 40 for deep cleansing for the problems that stayed behind after the 30 day fast. I have some stubborn health issues. Plus, I need to pare down my weight.

Sorry you are feeling so bad. Peter says to drink 1 oz of H2O per 2 lbs of body weight...so if you weigh 140, you need 70 oz of H2O/day. And I read somewhere that you count the lemonaides also, so if you drink 6 10 oz glasses of lemonaide, you only need 10 oz of purified H2O. However, all H2O is good for the body, so drink as much as you can. The Senior members recommend drinking a glass of plain between each lemonaide to hlep get enough H2O. Hope this helps! :)

I have had chills ALL DAY! I am on my 2nd mc. The first one I did in the summer I felt fine and came out looking amazing by my 10th day. Decided to do the Jan cleanse and I am on my 3rd day. I have never felt so terrible! My face is a pimple mess which I expect. I am grouchy, which I also expected. But these CHILLS and GOOSEBUMPS are horrible! And I am freezing!!! I add more cayenne and drink my lemonade hot so I can get warm. That does help. But I do my tea and SWF when I come home from work. I could barely get the SWF down and had to really fight it from coming back up which gave me more CHILLS and GOOSEBUMPS! I want to continue. But my mind is telling me to go on orange juice, lemonade and veggie soup for the duration of the 10 day and just be mindful to eat healthier until the summer. Has anyone experienced this? It might be just detox but it wasnt that bad before. My loved ones are so worried and want me to stop. Now I did feel slightly better after elimination. but I still have the CHILLS!!! Help?

you're going thru some serious detox right now. and don't worry, it'll pass. stick to it and wait it out. drink some warm water, a cup of peppermint tea, bundle up etc etc. you'll make it thru it. it's worse now because the weather's cold outside but at least you won't look like a madwoman like me last august wearing socks, mittens and two sweaters to work lol.

I am going for 40. This one is hard. The first one was a joy.
How are you today?
Thanks for the welcome to the club! Day 17? You can do it. Hit for that 40! I am trying to think little goals so I am going for the 10 plus a week of raw food since I am making it through day 4. I would like to go further when I do a 3rd mc in the summer during a heat wave. But I am just like you, famished, soooooo sleepy, cussing people out and CHILLY! I did have a little spurt of energy this afternoon at work but on the drive home my eyelids were heavy. Not in the mood for SWF. Putting it off until saturday. My stomach still hurts from it.

Hey Ivorybow,
Congratulations on making it to day 17! That's a great accomplishment. I can really relate to what you're saying. I'm on day 24 and am also going for 40 days. There have been lots of days when I've been cold, fatigued...All I can say is just hang in there (also on my first cleanse of 12 days I felt great!). The surge of energy and mental clarity will come. On day 20 I really started to feel the energy and mental clarity...don't know when it will kick in for you, but just hang in there, with every elimination some of that tiredness and wretchedness will be released. Stay strong Ivorybow :)

Day 6 almost over...
I'm feeling rotten. I had a colonic this morning instead of SWF. I woke up with a headache -- I've had it 3 days now. After the colonic I felt better but about 2 p.m. this afternoon my headache got wayyyy worse, my throat started hurting and was hot, my left tonsil was throbbing and I feel really spacey. I'm chalking it up to major detox, but man, I feel lousy. I *so* hope I feel better tomorrow.... Has anyone else experienced the sore throat/throbbing tonsil?
I'm definitely going for an Epsom salt bath tonight...
Sorry for the whining, I'm just trying not to give in and give up.

Hi Queen, maybe there is a reason why they say no colonics while on the MC. Wait until afterwards.:(
Hope you feel better soon.

I'm in the eighth day of the Master Clense. Some of my symptoms include sneezing a whole lot, lots of mucus coming from my nose. I hear comments that are crazy, e.g. "you know people have died from fasting". I didn't have the headaches, etc. I admit though that I feel weak--generally I have a lot of energy. I will break on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Any suggestions on breaking and how I'll feel once the fast is done.

Hi Bayareababe
I have read conflicting reports re-colonics during detox.....for and against....I was planning to have one on Thursday which is my Day 10 should I wait......what has been people's experiences......I am hoping to extend my fast will make a decision on thursday.....
I like the idea of 40 days but I think I'll make the decision after the first 10 and give myself small goals like another 5 days and so on...

Thanks to Neenee, ivorybow and everyone else on this thread who have calmed my worry over the crazy CHILLS! I am on Day 4 of my first MC, and I am SO COLD!! I have been absolutely freezing since the evening of Day 1, with goosebumps too unless I wrap up under 2 sweaters and a rug! I guess January in London wasn't the best climate to choose for a detox...
Glad to hear I'm not alone in these chills though, and I read in Peter's book that this is a normal result of the body's metabolism lowering, so I am just wrapping up and choosing warm water for the lemonade. Oddly I feel really greta apart from this, high energy etc, although not enough detox symptoms t really feel this working yet.

Well, I guess there's a reason I'm still on the cleanse. I promised myself after Day 10 that I'd quit when I stopped detoxing. (*ahem!* ?Will it never quit?) I finally (knock on wood-that it continues) got a decent night's sleep last night and didn't wake up from the pain in my back. It still aches, but I'm hoping I'm on the downhill slope of that detox effect.
Yesterday, I started getting a rash on my arms, then legs, now back! Red, tiny bumps just covering the skin. I guess the good news is that my last cleanse-related rash was on my neck and face - kinda hard to hide. With winter here, I'm rarely exposing my legs and arms. I'll ride this one out and see how long it lasts.
What's funny is that I do LOVE the detox symptoms. It means that stuff is coming out, hopefully, never to return! I followed the guidelines about 'Taking it Easy' on my first cleanse, but have realized I can handle more and have been adding diced organic lemon peel to my lemonades over the last few weeks to increase the detox effect AND to give me something to chew. yummy! :p Oh, I'm also adding more cayenne (not so yummy) when I can handle it.

Hey yall,
I'm new to this board but this is my second MC. My first one was 23 days and I felt awesome the whole time, but this one is proving to be much harder. I'm on day 6 and the past 3 days I've been having a lot of indigestion, stomach pains, burping, and acid reflux. It doesn't seem to be effected by how much lemonade I'm drinking and this didn't happen on my last cleanse. Does this sound like some sort of detox?
One other factor is I'm taking the pepper in capsules - yes I know that's not ideal, but I'm a full time student and work a lot so it's not practical for me to lug around a full day's worth of lemonade. I mix a consentrated bottle of lemonade to sip throughout the day then just carry a water bottle as well. Much easier on the backpack! But then I can't put enough pepper in the drink so I'm taking the capsule. But the stomach problems don't seem to be connected to when I take the pepper.
So what do you think? Detox? Or is this just a side effect of digesting the pepper? I'd appreciate any thoughts!

Hello,
I just tried posting this but have not been able to find it anywhere, even after doing many searches of key words. I originally posted under newbee's but maybe it is better here. I am having problems. I apologize for just jumping in, but am not sure of a better way to start. I apologize for this being so scattered...but I have done my best to organize.
I hope not to turn people away, because after reading many responses, it sounds like my experiences are unusual.
I am new to the cleanse but have just finished my 11 day. I have made no eliminations since about the 5th/6th days. I have tried several times each day but
1) nothing comes out
2) I have begun to feel week in cannot hardly attempt to push anything out now.
I take the full strength senna lax tea every night (last thing) and every morning after the SWF. I have basically done this every day. Besides the full 12 glasses I am drinking about a gallon of water per day. Every day I have been feeling weaker, more tired (Yet I am getting greater than or equal sleep to previous the MC), hungrier, and less able to eliminate waste. With the SWF, I have tried varying the amount of salt from 2tsp to 3tsp and sometimes less. I have mixed it the night before or the morning of, and this does not seem to effect anything. I think that I have also tried less salt but also to no further effect. Around the 3rd day I did feel the effects and eliminate after the SWF but since then: sometimes I feel my stomach churning, other times not, but no eliminations either way. The 11th day is the first that I have felt cramping from the Senna Tea (usually I experience nothing).
When not on the cleanse I do not "go" very often. I never have seen this as a problem because it comes when it comes and then a lot of it (sorry for details if unnecessary).
More Symptoms
Exhausted, soar back and very fatigued. I am also very cold (even wearing 1 flease, 2 sweatshirts, 1 turtleneck, and 1 T-shirt, with a wool hat; sweatpants, cargo pants, thermal wool hiking sock with a liner!!!) People at work must think I am crazy (10hr, 2nd shift, mildly hard manual labor) because some people walk around in a just a T-shirt and are just fine. Granted it is cold out, but this is indoors with people wearing normal indoor clothing all around me.
I have been drinking 12 10oz glasses of the lemonade with a little extra MS (as was suggested for skinny people and those doing more physical labor) and extra CP. I often mix more CP in my water to help stay warm but I am still very cold, weak (feel like muscles are immersed in toxins...like you do when you are real sick and don't want to move (especially after long bouts of throwing up)...but I am required to work regardless), and now incredibly hungry. My tung is still white but I do not think that I will be able to continue at work if I continue on this cleanse. Overall it just seems my body is shutting down, but I think that it is related to the lack of eliminations. All these effects and really no sighted benefits. That is part of the reason I want to continue the MC, if able... Any suggestions? ASAP replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Oh and I have had almost no energy lately. the first several days I did have more than usual energy though...

Hi LOOregano - You're definitely detoxing which is great, but you're not eliminating, which is not good. The toxins have to have somewhere to go or they'll just make you sick. From your description, you appear to be doing everything correctly. I've not heard of anyone who didn't eventually (before 6 days have passed as in your case!) have at least some 'butt pee.' Are you saying nothing is coming out that end? If so, you are probably really blocked up. But if your eliminations are liquid, not solid, that counts as an elimination on the MC. And after you return to eating, you should see more frequent eliminations than you did before the MC. Your detox symptoms are normal and I'm not surprised you're fatigued and feeling weak if you're not eliminating. Please let me know if there's at least some liquid leaking out.
How long do you plan to go?

I know that rashes are a sign of detox. I currently have one on my face at the end of day six. Can anyone tell me how long the rash lasts? Does it clear up within a few days? My boyfriend is coming into town the weekend after V-day. I really don't want him to see me like this.
Anyone, please help!!! Thanks.

i've had all different kinds of rashes. some of them are really bright and only last a couple hours. and some of them linger for a couple days. it's weird. because they're the same kind of rashes i was getting when i was living in the sewer gas. but anyway, i'm on day 9 and my skin started to get noticeably better yesterday. and today is an improvement as well.

Oh my gosh! I have been in such pain for the last day & a half! I could only get in about 3 hours sleep last night because of the pain in my lower back down through the backs of my thighs! After getting in the hot tub for about 20 minutes the pain subsided only to return within 10- 15 minutes. I have never experienced anything like this & pray that it doesn't come back today. I really wanted to just quit this whole MC. I am now starting my 4th day. Please tell me things will get better. I don't know how much longer I can put up with this. Awesome job for sticking it out! I have the exact same pains in my back and glutes...it's not as bad as you describe but very achy...I thought my back and muscles were just stiff but after an hour of yoga did nothing I figured it must be detox symptoms.

You can try celtic grey sea salt, it has a milder taste and still does the job, or you can drink the lax tea in the am and pm instead of the SWF.
hope this helps.

hi
i had such an odd dream.
in my dream i was w my dad, my sister, mike, and i were at this like taco bell type place and they came w the food and i got fried shrimp and everyone else got huge bowls of melon. cantalope and honeydew. mmmmmm one of my favorites. i asked the people, I want a bowl of melon, and they said no. the waitress was acting like really stuck up andi didn't understand and then i started putting the fried shrimps on the table and i was like i don't eat these, and then i started throwing them at her face and i was like I DON'T EAT THIS ****! o_o and i tried to like glue her to the wall w the fried shrimps and i cornered her and i was throwing them in her face (she looked just like mia bersomething... the girl on the OC). and she was like what's wrong w these? i don't remember what happened, but then she was all like well idk what ur problem is, i eat these. and she said me: skinny. you: fat! and i was like it's not about being skinny. at least i can **** and my colon isn't clogged and my **** doesn't smell like a rotting courpse's vagina. sound familiar? and then i threw the rest of the fried shrimps in her face and gave her a $21 tip and we all left w out even eating. i don't know why i did that. maybe i was cranky when i was hungry in my sleep. i'm still hungry. an interesting dream for sure.
oh yea, and in my dream i rode to whole foods on two bicycles and i ate raw ice cream right out of the fridge there and then someone bought it and ate it.
are these strange dreams detox symptoms? i was feeling really drowsy and i fell asleep. i am normally never like that w people ever. i don't even say bad words most of the time. i don't feel cranky, but in my sleep i was kind of cranky. i think i repress my anger in real life sometimes, so maybe it came out in the dream. or maybe i was just feeling really toxic and i took a nap and then i started feeling all cranky and hungry?
i'm on day three. the only detox symptoms so far are tiredness, weakness, and hunger. then there was that dream.... could that be detox?
thanks

Thanks so much for you list of symptoms; however, I did not see any related to mine.
I am in my 7th day and do have an overall feeling of wellness, within my body, yet I have had the same nagging, pounding headache, with some mild visual disturbance, for the past three days. It comes and goes but is mostly there then not, and has been into this 3rd day.
Is a headache of such common this far into the detox? I didn’t' have them up until three days ago (5 days into cleanse) I only felt weak for the first few days, but that has since passed; now, left with this headache.
Note: the headache I am experience I have had before in past, with the visual disturbance but not as severe. I go throughout my day; it doesn't stop me from doing anything; however, will at times stop me in my tracks because it pounds so hard and is so painful.
Thanks for taking your time to read and thanks in advance for responding.

Hey guys. First post, first cleanse, Day 6. On days 1 and 2, I did experience pretty severe fatigue and headaches. However, since then I have not really noticed many other symptoms. I have not had headaches, am not feeling tired, etc... Also, in the six days I have only lost 2.8 lbs. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am going to be 25 years old in a few days and have never had good eating habits. I thought I'd be shedding like crazy!

When I do the SWF I visualize the great things the flush will do for my system. I literally "see" the liquid going through my intestines, releasing any blockage and giving me renewed energy.
It helps me in that when I don't visualize I gag on the mixture.
I also drink it relatively fast. I don't sip it. Just drink it down and chase it with a glass of plain water. Seems to do the trick.
I do heat up the water a bit. Makes it much more tolerable.

Hey im on day 5. This is my second attempt at the MC. My first one I broke down on day 3 and got wendys, then felt guilty for it
What I went thru was horrible headaches, I got cold all the time and had a runny nose and got a lil sick
Now, a month later, im trying again, on day 5 but im concerned, I feel fine. Havent had any detox symptons at ALL. I tried to prepare a lil better, cut off coffee, eta less crap you know, but I havent had any headaches, no colds no nothing, i feel exactly the same as normal, slight difference like thins seem clearer and my sense of smell is amplified. But am i not makign any prgress?
Also Even tho i elimate a few times a day its only usually like 20 seconds each. I feel liek everyone else is sitting ont he bowl for hours, am i not eliminating enough??

Hi everyone
My MC1 was completly typical. This time around, MC2, it took me over 14 days to get some major detox symptoms! I was so concerned and worried. Its frusterating to not have too many symptoms, I like to be productive. Here I am now, day 16 with Pimples galore, nasty white tounge, I am tired, I am lazy and I am loving it. Lets hear it for detoxing!!! I know though that even before the symptoms came to the surface, my body was working hard for me on the inside.
Good Luck

I have wild dreams about food too! They usually entail me eating food I would never eat (ex: Red Lobster. Never in my life have I eaten sea food, let alone fried nasty seafood) and getting very stressed out about it. My dreams are not really about the food, but stressful dreams about forgetting I am on the cleanse and wasting these hard working days by eating food again.
Lets be thankful that we dont sleep walk and head on into the kitchen for a late night snack!

I just wanted to cry...actually I think I did. Off to work now..teach Special Ed for middle school & on 3 hours sleep I hope I make it thru the day.
I just finished day 5 and I am up right now at 1am. I can't sleep bc the pain in the back of my legs is so intense! It started yesterday, but tonight is the worst. It is like pins and needles tingling and I though that maybe I pulled something in yoga. I also can only get relief from a hot bath, but it comes right back as soon as I try to lie down and go to sleep. I am so frustrated and exhausted! I bought an all natural pain relieve lotion, but it is not working. Any suggestions to get me through the night? Im minutes away from trying to catch some sleep in the tub!

Poppy: You should've called me last night. Kidding of course but I don't believe I got any sleep either. :o
Hot baths and gently stretching your legs helps. Have you been exercising at all? This will pass but unfortunately it's where you're at in the detoxing right now. Is there someone who can massage your legs? Hang in there.

mrichy: Everyone is different so the "bowl times" will be different too. :) For many of us it's lots of little trips to the toilet and others get it all over with at once. *chuckle* So you're right on target. :)

Thx for the encouragement!! Ok now Im on day 6 and Im getting a lil more symptons. My tongue is gross and really white and gunky looking. Im also feeling weak today. Today is the first day I can say Im not craving anything, yet. I also feel spaced out. My eliminations r still short, real short, like 15 second spurts, soemtimes of butt pee, sometimes of....other stuff. I have about 3-4 of these a day.
Yes im doing every step. Having about 6-8 12oz cups of lemon drink, about 6-8 12oz cups of spring water. Extra cayenne. Lax tea at night, salt water flush in the morning. Today I actually felt REALLY sick after drinking only 20oz of th salt water, usualyl I drink 32 oz no prob bob.

LJ
I was actually wondering about that. I told my husband that i can't believe i havent eaten for 12 days maybe i sleep walk at night. Yeah my dreams are stressfull like that like i am at a party and i cant have the cake but i eat a little piece and feel so guilty and i wake up thinking this seems real. I am on day 13 now and the dreams seem to have stopped and most of the detox symptoms except bad breath.

to help with funky breath, a few things seem to help. Drinking water in between your lemon drinks, and drinking mint tea which as chlorophyll in it and a natural odor eliminator.
and remember....... water, water, water. Take your weight, divide it by half, and that is how many ounces of water you should be drinking daily! Water helps flush out toxins.
hope this helps.

Hi Res
Thanks for your note. I have a bunch of exercise cds that I do, from bellydancing to yoga and pilates. I do one tape a day and always rotate them. The pain last night was unbearable and sometime after 3am I finally fell asleep.
I did go to the chiropractor today, I need relief! I told him I was on the cleanse and he thinks that I pinched a nerve, probably during exercise. He gave me an adjustment and there is a little relief from it, along with ice and so far two baths today!
I appreciate everyone's posts on the board. While I only have a handful of posts, everyone elses' have really answered a lot of questions for me. :)

I just re read this. Let me figure this out: 50-80 ounces of lemon drink every day. Add this to my weight total for water: 225 lbs, call half of that 110, so I need to be drinking 110 ounces of pure water every day?
Total, that is minimum 160, max 190 ounces of fluid? Add to that 32 ounces of SWF? That is well over 200 ounces every day of the fast.
Seems extreme. Am I reading and calculating this correctly? I cannot imagine 30 days of 200 ounces every day. My life will be spent in the kitchen and the bathroom...surely, Shirley, that cannot be right?

the salt water flush doesn't count in your water intake bc it gets flushed out.
i drink my body weight in water or more :D around 3 - 6 litres of water a day and it's not extreme at all :)

Well, it is clearly not extreme for you, because you do it. But for me, it is extreme. How many fasts have you done? Didn't I see you say you have done something like 16 of them? Why do you do so many, if I may ask? Forgive me if I am intruding, but I am not sure if I understand the habit of taking in that much water.
Curious....
I am also noticing, after the first few lemon/cayenne/maple drinks each day, that I am getting the shivers, big time. Not sure what is going on with that. I am shaking right now, just minutes after drinking 20 ounces of the stuff. regular mixture of 2 tablespoons lemon, same maple, and a touch of cayenne in 10 ounces, but I drink twenty ounces per sitting.
Any comments? It is the most extreme physical reaction I have had in four days on MC. This is also the first lemon drink I have had after the SWF, if that matters.

i am on my 12th day and i'm beginning to experience neck, throat and leg pain. Typical flu symtoms, i suppose. I also vomited this morning after the SWF. So I drank more and was ok. Do you think these are de-tox symtoms. i also have not been sleeping through-out the nights due to the lax and SWF.
(i have to be at work early).

if the lax tea is causing you to wake up with cramps soak is for less time or water it down.

I wasn't sure where to put this post. I have a hot tub that I am using alot while cleansing. I normally put chlorine in it once a week. 2 days ago, the water was crystal clear. Tonight, I noticed that the water is picking up an odor. Am I releasing toxins that are causing this?

I need some help and it might get disgusting. I'm on day 5 of the cleanse. I started getting symptoms of a yeast infection. creams just irritated the area and now i'm just miserable. SO since I have to wait a few days until this is treated i haven't been doing laxative tea or the salt water flush because i don't want to keep eliminated and continue to irritate that region. I don't know what to do. As a result, im not eliminating. i feel like I'm just waiting my time. I'm hoping by day 7 or so, i can reinstate the day and go until day ten with laxative teas and flushes. What will those lost 4 days without elimination do to my final results. I'm discouraged and thinking about quitting. help!!!

kammie--i'm so sorry! that must be awful! as for the swf, that is necessary to detox your body. without it the toxins will have no where to go and it will just make you sick. can you try to push through and use the swf? as for the yeast infection, someone just posted on the "for women" thread about a couple of natural cures and itching relief ideas. check it out!

Hi there all.
I am on the 5th day of my 2nd MC. The first one I breezed through 27 days. Sure I had the usual cravings .. for Kuntucky Fried Chicken of all things!! but it passed, and for the most part I felt great. This one has been hell.. heavy Detox flu symptoms for at least four days straight. Achy all over with major headache in the base of my scull. Achy Kidneys, nausia, even my hip joint is really acting up. I have been going to the Chiropractor for treatments.. Looks like the MC is having it's own impact... I hope in the end The aching will subside. So I have pretty well spent the first 5 days of my two week vacation in bed... with a hot bean bag to warm me up cause it seems like it is below zero in the house.. three heavy sweaters on and a comforter and I am still cold. .. This too shall pass as they say.. So I just patiently ride it through following the rules. On a good note.. I have already lost 10 lbs since the 14 april 'o7. I intend to go for 20 days, then three days on orange juice, and 7 days on green smoothies. then eat Raw Fruit and Veg for 30 days. That's the plan to get me back on track. I think I can handle it. Anyone care to hold me accountable??? I probably could use the support.

I too am on Day 5 and have experienced the same symptoms as you. Yesterday all the headache, back of neck ache and Cold symptoms left me and were replaced by strong lower back pain (sacrum and hips). I couldn't fall asleep until 3am. No matter how I moved, my lower back and hips hurt and my legs felt tight and wanted to move. I thought about taking a 3 am run through my neighborhood, but good sense prevailed and I toughed it out. Today it is much less intense.
I have noticed strange and ugly smells that appear and then disappear as suddenly as they came. They all smell like death, decay or in the case of what came out of me today, poison. I have heard this is common. I wonder if it is toxins leaving me or a more attuned sense of smell to what is around me. Whole Foods today smelled like Heaven!!!!
I am planning on going the full 10 days and then reassessing at that time. I may continue for 15 or 20 days or just come off at 10. I will decide this based on whether i am detoxing on Day 10 or not and I will see how my tongue is and whether or not I am really hungry. So far, I have grocery shopped for my family, taking them for meals at restaurants and made them meals, and I have yet to feel too tempted. The benefits of this cleanse are outweighing my habitual need to fill myself with comfort food. What a tremendous bonus of this cleanse!
Another detox symptom is that I am irritable. I had a temper tantrum in my car b/c my new headset is terrible and I just freaked out screaming at the headset and telling it I hated it!!!!!! Wow, that surprised me.
Oh well, hope everyone is plugging along and reaching their goals. Have a great Day! :)

That sounds like a very good plan, and quite a ballasy one too. :D Today is my 6th day of the plan and I have lost 8 lbs, but had very little eliminations yesterday, and flu symptoms for two days. I am hoping with my SWF this will start to pass today. I can hold you to the OJ and to the green smoothies, and even join you if you'd like. I can't however partake in the raw fruit and veggie diet because I am going on a cruise with my sister for my birthday on the 28th. But I am game for anything before that! :p

Hello Hello,
I'm a newbie on ending day 3. And I must say that my sense of smell has reached new levels. Last night as I was deep in my sleep like around midnight I started to have a clear sense of smell. I started to smell what I think I was craving. I first smelled onions, then tomatoes, and I just started dreaming that i was eating salsa. And i was soooo craving salsa, it was then rudly interrupted by the foul smell of my dogs breath. She wasnt that close to me. I could smell her breath and very clear. Ewwww. It was an iteresting bedtime. Then today (day3) I was in the car and this real bad odor was coming through the vents of my air/heat. I'm not sure if it was the air, or me having a weird sense of smell episode.
Anyways, I was curious as to how many others experience "smell" issues this early in the fast? I know its common, but I thought I'd be experiencing this later in the fast.
Good night!

I have a horrible headache and feel as if I will throw up any minute. I suffer f/ migraines and this feels like one coming on.
I need to down the water to help flush it out and stay hydrated.
I should go rest and see if that helps. I've got only about 30 minutes to lay down.
I hate the headaches and that is one of the reasons I decided to do the cleanse to get rid of them and whatever is causing them.
